DD is in the 10th grade and an honor student. Honor students have summer homework. She needs an audio book for The Good Earth by Pearl s. Buck
We really don't want to buy a monthly membership. Anyone know where I can buy just one that's inexpensive? TIA!

Check your local library for books on tape (actually, they are on CD or even available as digital downloads).

A quick search shows me it's $11.95 on iTunes. (as an audiobook) No monthly membership required.

Amazon has some books for audio and for Kindle for free download. Put "free" in their search box.

Check to see if your library has an e-book lending program. Ours does, and it includes audio books as well as print e-books. In fact, there are quite a few titles available in audio format that aren't available for an e-reader.

As a former librarian I would second the suggestion of your local library but only if your daughter's whole class doesn't have to read the same book. If they do, then the waiting list for the book (audiobooks are quite expensive so your library is likely to only have one copy) might be quite long indeed. I'd still suggest checking there first even if the whole class has to read it.
You can get the audible.com version from Amazon for $11.95 (can be listened to via the Kindle Free or the free audible app on other devices).

If you can't find it at eh library, Audible.com should have it, AND usually has offers like: One Book for a Free 30-day Trial.

After the trial, you can cancel and they won't charge the credit card.

Of course, I enjoy our Audible account, and would hate to cancel...would make the commute to work long an boring without a book to listen to.

Yes! The library had it!!. Thanks for that recommendation.
I'm so out of the loop because her other book she got from youtube daughter and would listen to it on her ipod. We picked up the audio from the library and I just realized its a cd. I asked my how does she download that to her ipod so she can listen to it. She looked at me and said its not for the ipod it for her cd player. I felt so uncool-lol!

DD is going to stay the night at grandmas house and her cd boom box is to big to lug around. I was looking att he audible.com by amazon but wasn't sure if it was a hassle to cancel. I know through swag bucks theres a special first two months are $1 then 14.95 after promo. How do I cancel is it by email and how many days should I cancel so it goes through?

For audible, you just go online to the Account settings and cancel it.

As for the CD, it's kind of a no no but she can burn that to mp3 files that will play on her iPod. It's a bit of a pain though and sometimes it's a little hard to keep all the tracks in the correct order. if you have a trial Audible subscription available I'd really recommend using it.
