"Au revior...that's French for get out of here!" A Jan '13 AoA TR COMPLETE

Hope your exams went well!

We haven't tried the Sci Fi Dine-In, but it's on our short list of restaurants for our trip next year! We also haven't seen Fantasmic in a long time. Hoping to see it next time as well. Looks like a fun day at DHS!

They went pretty well, thanks!

The theme was fun but I don't think we'd return soon. There are just too many other places to try!

Finally caught up.... ;) Looks like you guys got alot done!

I cant believe that I have never seen fantasmic.. I see so many people on here that love it. We are never at DHS at night and I'm not sure why.. Definitely going to put it down as a must do next time!

I always forget how much I like that show- it's definitely worth seeing once!

You forgot to mention that we did the Great Movie Ride! Which was fun, although I'm still waiting to get the cowboy shootout version....I always seem to get the gangster one.

The light morning crowds from the previous morning had us pumped so we decided to give rope drop a go. We hopped a bus to AK and were there before rope drop. I was sort of excited because I'd heard of special opening ceremonies but found it was pretty anti-climatic. They let us into the park maybe 10 minutes before opening and made the crowd do a slow walk to the entrance to Africa.

At this point, we decided for another go on the safari. We didn't like it as much of the previous day's ride but we did get to see the lions which was exciting! We took a ride out to Rafiki's planet watch before deciding we were starving (it was almost 11.)

We headed to Pizzafari and found out we were too late for breakfast but decided to share a pepperoni pizza and salad for an early lunch. It was really good and the decoration was fun. :goodvibes

After this we wandered around Discovery Island and checked out some of the animals.

To round out the attractions we missed the day before, we headed to Maharajah Jungle Trek.

The crowds were low and we were able to spend a lot of time watching the tiger! :cool1:

Deciding we were pretty much done with AK, we hoped a bus back to AoA for a little pool time. As we were leaving we saw a bus at the AoA stop and decided to make a run for it not wanting to get left behind. Of course, we got on and the bus sat for another 5-10 minutes. Oh well! :confused3

After we changed into our bathing suits we walked around the hotel to look at some of the other resort sections.

The Cars section was by far our favorite! Everything was just the right size that we really felt completely immersed in Radiator Springs.

At 1:00ish we left the hotel and made our way towards the Dolphin to pick up our rental car.

Up Next: The great rental car disaster

so which pool did you guys like the best?

Definitely the Big Blue Pool! DSis didn't actually go in, but I did and I thought the music was a really cool touch! The Cozy Cone pool was cute too.

Which one did your family like best? Did you guys get a chance to visit all three? I saw you've gone to BBP and CCP so far.

I love your Art of Animation pictures! And I'm already wincing at whatever your car rental disaster may be...

Oh goodness- what an ordeal! As I'll explain in my next update, it was pretty much completely our own fault.

Great pictures with Cars gang! Nice to be able to have some resort time to lounge and stroll. :thumbsup2

It was very nice! We were very busy this trip so any relaxing time we had was nice. Going park commando allowed us to see a ton of attractions but is something DSis and I agree we wouldn't do again. Too tiring!

I just found your TR and am loving it! Got all caught up!

My sister and I are taking our own trip (in 23 DAYS!!!) so this is very fun to read! Only difference is she is 13 and I am 22....I will survive!

:welcome:

Glad you're enjoying it so far!

How exciting! At 13, I'll be she'll really enjoy a trip with just the two of you. I know when I was 13, I would have thought that was so cool! I'm off to start your PTR now!

When we left off, DSis and I were heading to pick up our rental car at the Dolphin. This was our first time renting a car in the World and looking back, I think that showed.

We hopped on a bus to DHS and then snagged a boat to the Dolphin. Following with the general transportation theme of the trip, we lucked out and this whole trip (from hotel to hotel) only took about 25 minutes. So far so good, right?

We head into the Dolphin (which is absolutely breath taking, by the way) with the rental email and driver's licenses in hand only to realize that DSis has forgotten her credit card. Seeing as we're already here we decided to try and use mine even though the rental was in Cait's name, and I was too young to switch it to mine. Unfortunately, this was a no go. The woman at the National desk transferred our rental to the Car Care Center, but said we'd still need to get the credit card before we could go there and pick the car up.

Briefly interjecting, I'd like to point out newbie mistake number one. I'm pretty sure we needed to pick the car up at the CCC no matter what. The National woman mentioned something about needing to take a bus to the car lot anyways, so in the future I would definitely do the booking through the CCC desk, not the desk at the Dolphin. It seems like that would have cut out part of the trip in the first place!

Back to the story! Luckily, the National woman set us up on a shuttle bus that could bring us back to our hotel to grab the card. Even better, the bus driver was AWESOME and said he'd wait us for while we ran (which we practically did) to our room to grab the card and then bring us to the CCC. Once we got there it took about ten minutes to process the rental before we got to see our ride for the next two days, Jessie!

Red? Jessie has red pig tails? We needed a Disney name- get it? :rotfl:

Overall, this whole ordeal probably took an extra hour, maybe hour and a half. Looking back it really wasn't horrible and certainly didn't put a damper on our vacation. However, I feel like I've learned some valuable rental tips for the World.

One. Always bring the credit card you need to pay with!

Two. Book your rental through the desk at the CCC

Three. Take advantage of the rental shuttle to come pick you up at your resort, rather than tranpo-hop.

Four. Be thankful everyone is so fantastic and nice to WDW. Seriously- these people took our mistake and went above and beyond for us!

With all that sorted out, we drove ourselves over to Epcot for our first visit to the park during the trip! As usual, I made Caitlin stop for some pictures on the way in!

We were ready to jump on Spaceship: Earth when we saw two friends so we figured we had to stop for pictures there too.

We both agreed that posing with Daisy was sort of awkward. She was doing her own thing and we just kind of stood there, lol :lmao:
