Attire - Mother of the Groom

I think the whole process will be easier if you give up the dream of ever wearing the dress again. lol Just get something that will look fantastic that day. :)

I agree with the others the white dress is too bridal.

Nordstrom is my go to store for dresses since they have such a large selection.

Here is a similar one to yours but not bridal looking:

Here are some others I really like:

Nordstrom has free shipping and free return so you can order several try them on and return what you don't like if there isn't a store by your house.

Good luck and congrats!

Wow, Liberty Belle!! Of ALL the dresses, designers, and stores out there, you picked my #2 dress - the steel gray one! I tried that dress on at Macy's after finding the ivory one. It did look good on me, but I didn't *love* it like I did the other. It seemed a little flimsy to me and not as great of a quality as the other dress, and with the sequins, I really don't see myself wearing that dress again. Although at this point, I haven't found anything else, so that gray dress may end up being "the one" unfortunately.

I would LOVE to dye the ivory one to a navy blue as Disney Doll suggested.... gosh it makes me nervous though. The dress is such a nice quality, I certainly don't want to ruin it. Is dying a pretty safe, no fail, reasonable thing to do? lol

When is the wedding?

I think that dress is gorgeous. I wish I had a wedding coming up so I had an excuse to buy it!

I would find somewhere who does dying professionally and have a consult. They should be able to tell you whether or not the dress can be dyed safely.

IMHO, I wouldn't wear a white lace dress to the rehearsal party either unless I were the bride. Maybe it's a local thing here, but a lot of brides wear white cocktail dresses to their rehearsal parties. Just my opinion.

I wonder if you googled "professional clothing dyers" or something like that if you'd find anything?
Or ask at a bridal store or your local cleaners/tailors....maybe they would have someone o recommend. I don't hink I'd try it myself.

lol How funny! Well, I do think it's really pretty.

I wonder if there are professional dyers?

I knew her well enough to know she wouldn't show up in white lace. ;)

ROFL!!! Ok ok... but in my defense, it's not technically WHITE. I thought perhaps ivory/beige may be acceptable nowadays (or hoping at least) in the same way black is becoming more of an acceptable color. :goodvibes

No.

The only one wearing white/beige/ivory should be the bride.

Be very careful if you choose to dye that dress. It looks like fabric that might shrink if it gets wet.

I once decided to dye a pair of black pants of mine that had faded. I figured I would just dye them black again. Well, the first time I wore them after the dye job my husband asked me if I sprayed them on or poured myself into them. He then asked if I needed a ride to "my corner". :rotfl2:

I actually wasn't referring to you with that quote but to a PP who said her MIL showed up in a white lace long dress....

threeboysmom if it's a dry clean only dress it may not be dyeable.

Could you google the designer and see if they have it another color?

Our colors were pinks and a light blue. My MIL wore a light purple dress. I think it went well with everything. Just wear something you are comfortable in that doesn't clash with the other colors :)

OK, my future daughter-in-law (love saying that!) just sent me a picture of what the bridesmaids will be wearing.

Let me just say that I am stumped now! Absolutely STUMPED!

The dresses are absolutely adorable- just not what I pictured for an evening wedding.

So I'm back to square one. Obviously, all the dresses I've been looking at and trying on are going to be WAY TOO dressy.

She's still insisting I can wear whatever I want.

I was originally told light blue for the girls, so I was concentrating on a navy lace overlay sheath dress... but the dresses are a lot more turquoise than I thought, so will navy still be a good accent choice?

Maybe I should just abandon my notion of a dress and just look for a cute skirt and top instead?

I realize I'm probably WAY overthinking this, lol.

Is this what the bridesmaids are wearing?

Navy blue would complement turquoise nicely.

I think navy would be great. I also think peach would be a nice complement.

I think navy would go well, but since they seem to be pretty casual, you may want to simplify your selection a little bit. (I.e. no lace, so there aren't so many patterns for the pictures) I also think you could do grays nicely with that color or brown/beige would look pretty. IMHO, a skirt/top may be too casual. Good luck!

You might want to ask DIL about her flower color choices in order to "blend" with those shades. Chocolate is also a common accent for that aqua.

Has she given you any clue as to what her mother is wearing? That would help immensely if you don't want to choose the same color, or a drastically different style.

Are the guys wearing black tuxes?
