Attire for PArty for the Senses

I made a reservation for the 9/30 Party for the Senses today and was told there is a dress code...no shorts, bathing suits, tank tops, or jeans. While I'm not surprised about the bathing suits or jeans, I'm a little surprised you can't wear dress shorts (men or women) or a nice tank top (women). I don't mind the dress code itself, but I'm thinking about the weather, and spending time in the park before the dinner. I can wear a sundress and stay cool, but I think it'll be hot/uncomfortable for my DH to be walking through Epcot before the event. Is Party for the Senses under a tent, or is it inside with air conditioning? Any experience with this dress code before?

The event is fancy. A lot of the women that were there last year were in dressy dresses and high heels. all the men had collar shirts on - that I noticed!! Most had khaki slacks. I had fallen earlier so I kept my shorts, and a nice dressy type blouse, button down.. and I felt under dressed - this year I'm wearing a dress!! A sundress - so comfy...

The venue is air conditioned, and its a lovely evening - I cant wait, and i see at least 6 - 10 other Dis'ers will be there as well!! Mingle - eat, and sit at a new seat, mingle and meet - I hope to make the acquaintance of some Disers!!

eeyore45- Thank you for your input! I didn't realize it was fancy (which is fine). Would you recommend it as an anniversary celebration? That night is our anniversary and we thought it would be neat to try...and we're only there that weekend, so that date is our only option. We think we'd be fine without the romantic setting since it will be such a great experience. Thoughts?

Check that as I believe you can wear dress shorts! No jean shorts or cutoffs.

goofy4wdw2 - the PFTS would make an excellent anniversary event. You are right about not having the romantic setting part, but the meal itself would be an excellent choice.


goofy4wdw2 & k5thbeatle - I asked dining yesterday while making our reservation. The dress code given was 'resort smart casual' and the first words they said were no shorts. I wish that was not the case, but they did not distinguish between different types of shorts. I would like to wear dress shorts to PFTS as well, b/c walking around last year in Dockers in that FL late afternoon muggy heat was not all that pleasant.
However, that is the dress code for PFTS.

I'm actually kind of excited about going to a WDW event dressed up. We always stay casual there - even at the nice restaurants, because that is what's most common...sensible. But, being that it is just dh and me I think it will be fun to wear something nice. Of course, that being said, we probably won't plan on spending the day at the park - unless we bring something and change. I have to give that some thought...

The problem is that "dress shorts" don't have a good definition and the next thing you know someone is there in their "Daisy Dukes' because to THEM that is "dress shorts" LOL!

(And to be honest, last year they did not enforce the dress code, but the folks I saw dressed very casually got some looks.. I would have been uncomfortable)

I'm sure I was one of "those" people Carol. I had just fallen and sprained my ankle, and I really wasnt going to put on the dress I had, and there was no way I was going to fit my foot in any other shoes, but crocs.... I have an "attitude" that I can do "I dont care" really well...

but I did feel out of place - I had "dress shorts" and a collar shirt - (shorts were 'modest, not quite to the knees - and there were several crop pants there too!) I still remember feeling out of place!

Goofy4 - we're going too for our Anniversary!! DH loved it so much, its the big reason we're going back - and of course I couldnt think of a better way to celebrate our 25th!!

I went and bought the matcing dress / shirt from Disneyshopping - I know last year there was maybe 5 women with the blue disney dress - and it was fun!! I wanted to join the "fun"....

We booked two PFTS yesterday and were not told anything about not being able to wear shorts. The dress code is the same as at the signature restaurants. BTW, we've been to the PFTS 5-6 years in a row now and I have always worn Ralph Lauren khaki shorts and a collared shirt and will do so again this year.

Same here! I guess I'll be easy to spot as I'll be the one wearing shorts!

LOL - DH will probably be in dress shorts too with a nice shirt - I will pack him some pants but I doubt I'll get him to wear them especially if it is hot

As for the shorts thing--once again conflicting information from Disney, depending upon who it is you talk to when making ADR's.

I agree that 'resort smart casual' is a unique phrase, but I had the CM repeat it for me, just to be sure. I believe the only difference may lie in the shorts (no jokes please).

And, I fully agree that the CM's at dining may not be giving out the same information to everyone, depending on who you happen to speak to on the phone, but there is a dress code for PFTS. If a CM didn't inform someone, and they showed up 'under dressed' for a $125 per person meal, then I would certainly feel badly for them. But, as the OP stated, they too were informed of the dress code when booking, and the short answer is 'no shorts', (okay, I had to throw that joke in there).

The subsequent posters are now trying to justify that it is perfectly fine to wear shorts. That is not accurate, with the dress code. That is their choice, to not follow the dress code. Whether WDW chooses to enforce the dress code, and we all know how often that happens, is another matter, but there is a dress code for PFTS. I am not taking a contrary point to wanting to wear dress shorts myself, I think that would be alot more comfortable. But, that is not the stated attire for the event. As eeyore45 pointed out "The event is fancy". This is an expensive, somewhat upscale dining experience. The stated dress code requirements are indicative of that.

Personally I don't think Party For The Senses is a "fancy" event at all. I've been going for years and wear "resort casual". Sure, there are many people who are all dressed up, but there are many i.e. men wearing shorts - casual and dressy.

I agree with Beachangel that I've never felt the PFTS is a "fancy" event. We see folks dressed up and folks dressed casual all the time. It's certainly not the formal atmosphere of the reserve and signature dinners. There are plenty of wines poured that are in the "value priced" range along with the beer offerings.

CarolA, as I stated in my post I made the reservation yesterday and was not told that shorts were not allowed. I would be surprised if the dress code is different than previous years. If I was told shorts were not allowed, I would not wear shorts.

BTW, I just called WDW-FEST two minutes ago and asked the cast member if shorts were allowed and she looked though her materials and stated that there is no dress code listed for the event. I even mentioned to her we were discussing this topic on the Disney bulletin board right now.

That is a perfect example of where the different CM's aren't able to provide, or go into the system and find, the same information.
The original thread poster said it was mentioned, other board threads have mentioned it, and I specifically asked about any dress codes when I booked, just as a backup. The CM I dealt with had to get as far as to physically pull up the screen to check availability, then the requirements info was read to me.

That is not a comment at you cdtommie at all, but at the fact that CM's are not on the same page with providing info. That miscommunication from WDW causes a great deal of confusion on information boards like this.

Robert, I did ask her to check the fine print and she read all the details back to me on the phone. I would be surprised if there was a dress code change this year but would certainly comply (albeit sweatingly)...the event seems to be exactly the same as previous years (at a much higher price of course)...the usual 25 chefs, 70 wines, cirque du soleil etc...
