ATTENTION MOMS OF DAUGHTERS! How much did you or would you spend on a 1st BD dress?

Another one who never bought special dresses for birthdays. One had her birthday around Memorial so it was picnic time and a cute sundress. The other is August so we just went to Disney for birthdays. The only year we planned a birthday party(late) for her we were hit by hurricane Andrew and could not have it.

There are people on eBay who create their own boutique designs. They typically go for quite a bit of money.

They create all sorts of stuff. If you search Custom or Boutique Girls/Boys Outfit or Set and you will get alot of it. There is tons of handmade boutique stuff on eBay.

They even make boutique birthday hats...

Our daughter princess: is 3 months old and is our first (and only) girl with 2 brothers. She is the only granddaughter on one side of the family.

So, money has been no object when we (or grandma) shop for her!!!!

As a p.s., I saw that b-day dress on ebay--cute cute! There is another maker who does a chenille swingtop with capris that is also adorable!

HAVE FUN!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I say get whatever makes you happy. ::yes:: This is no time for regrets, etc... she'll only have a First Birthday once.
Of course I do have a suggestion to get more use out of that dress. When the day is done, go to a craft store buy a large frame, use pretty paper or fabric to make a background, lay the dress in the center, add memories of the day (napkins, streamers, invitations, etc) and maybe some photos and hang it on the wall, I've made similar things before and you'll cherish it and the dress won't sit in the closet.

Well, I'm not a mom, but I have a daughter so... :p

In my opinion, too expensive! Of course, I never heard of a 1st b-day dress either. I just dressed my daughter in something nice and that was that. The pictures will be cute whether the dress costs $40 or $15 ;)

Your past had me totally stumped! Took me a minute to realize that you're a dad. LOL Geez, I'm slow today!

We never did a special birthday dress for our DD (she's 16yo now). Not that she didn't have dresses, but just nothing purchased just for her birthday.

However, if you want that particular dress, I say go for it! Sounds cute and not a terrible price. She could wear it for her birthday and you could have her portrait made in it.

I had large first birthday parties for all 3 of my kids, so all of them had a special birthday outfit. I think I spent more than that on my girls and they are 15 and 8 now, so that was quite awhile ago. I say go for it if it makes you happy. The pictures will be adorable.

I still do a special birthday outfit and she is going to have her 7th birthday party on Sunday. It is a Spirit the horse party and she is wearing a pink gingham country dress and her auntie got her pink cowgirl boots to wear with it. Sooooo cute.

Luckily, her dress is on sale for $15 though so I'm getting a bargain. ;)

I bought E some Bob the Builder overalls for his Bob party. I think it is cute to theme their outfit with the party.

I also had a big 1st bday for my kids. Ibought their outfits from Talbots kids. I think my dd dress was about $80. Unfortunately, I considered that a bargain compared to what I paid for my sons pin striped sear sucker suits.Luckily they were able to wear them again for Easter

Oops, sorry :o And look how comfortable you are with your manhood--you read and replied to a thread seeking the opinions of moms! ;)

Well, I figure since I gotta be both mom and dad, I wouldn't let a technicality stop me from posting ;)

If you dont think it is expensive than it doesnt matter. But, take the dress off before you give her the cake:p :p

I bought my daughter a cute outfit and then took it off and left her in a diaper for the cake. Sorry, but the outfit was cute and I didnt want to spoil her fun of eating cake and getting messy.

I had a big party for my daughter's first, but since it was summer I dressed her in short overalls and a t-shirt. I wanted her to be comfortable. She's not a big dress person (neither am I), but the one you described sounds cute. I say go for it.

The big 1st birthdays must be a regional thing...I talked to friends in other states and they have family over for cake...around here we have big first birthday out in catering type places and if its in the summer a big backyard thing....My daughter first birthday party was 70 people so no way could they all fit in my house. The following parties were a little smaller and now she gets 2 parties...the kids party out at places and then family/friends at the house later the same day.

Thanks everyone for all your replies. I think sometimes I go a little over board with her since my son was first and due to many complications, never thought she would even be here. DH hasn't said much so far so I guess I'm OK and haven't spent too much on her birthday. We do go all out for birthdays. Brandon had his at a hotel pool this year. We'll have family and friends for Haylee's. Its a family tradition for us. If I had a birthday party for 1 of my kids and didn't invite all the family members, they would be hurt. We 're just really close with al our family, which I guess is good and bad. LOL I'm going to get the dress. Unfortunately her party has to be put off a week because we just found out tonight Brandon has to get his tonsils out, but thats another post. Thanks again guys!

My thought...she probably already has more cute dresses than she can possibly wear out before she outgrows. A new dress would really be for you, not for her. Do her a favor and buy her a $35 bond or similar investment. If you must have a momento, just go for the bib or hat.

PS--I do not have a daughter.

The dress Kaleigh wore for her 1st birthday and the one she had her pictures taken in I actually bought at the reasle store for under $10. It had Pooh bear on it and was really cute.

I wouldn't go overboard on the bibs and stuff.

Kaleigh will be 2 at the end of September.
