I just got back from a great trip to WDW and US and wanted to share a couple thoughts on a ride that made me suffer from claustrophobia.

Mission Space- wow.... I knew to not ride the spinning version, orange, but I have not heard how claustrophobic the ride was. Very tight conditions!

My DH and I had to chicken out before we entered the ride. We were not the only ones :scared1:

I got a bit panicky because of this too. We went to WDW or the soft opening of Mission: Space years ago. That weekend, we rode it three times and then I was finished for life. I'll probably never ride it again; three times was enough for me.

That's a shame that you weren't aware but it had been mentioned many times on the Disboards.

Did green once (that's the easy one right?), and was a little uncomfortable but did it for my friend's little sister.

Did orange once with my brother and decided that was enough for me haha I will avoid it now lol.

I don't know what I did but a cast member decided to give me a stack of fast passes on the way out of it ahaha. I just gave them away to some less queasy souls.

I felt the same way in Mission Space. It was all I could do to stop myself banging on the door in a panic. I had heard it was a tight space, but had no idea that I would feel like that inside.

I can't go on that ride for that reason. I was even starting to panic on the Stitch ride.

I also suffer from claustrophobia, but I do ride the mild side of Mission Space. It actually works as therapy for my condition by exposing myself to a very safe confinment. (only at Disney) I still have to be next to the door but I can now tolerate the three minute adventure of being closed in.

I thought about trying it out, as I can handle 3min of being closed in....it's the run away thoughts of the ride breaking down and I am stuck for a long time. It's a totally my mind freaking out about being stuck in a ride, trapped! We got stuck on Space Mountain for a while. That even panicked me as the lap bar seemed really, really tight. My mind took over and then all the sudden it was way, way too tight...even though it was just the normal position. The poor ride attendant took pity on me and released the lap bar. I could not get out of the car, but at least i know that I could.

and in the line about 10 times, I can see the screen and hear the voice now "if dark, encloses spaces make you uncomfortable.............."

Another one claustrophics might want to avoid is Stitch's Great Escape, many have issues with being 'held' down.

Can't do it, won't do it, for that reason. I shiver just thinking about it! I think it's the only WDW ride that I absolutely refuse to do sight unseen.

Riding Mission Space, for me as a claustrophobic, would be about as much fun as having an MRI. ;)

Surprisingly I can handle Mission:Space, but freak out during an MRI. The one that really got to me was Sum of All Thrills. Really enclosed tight space. I managed to get through it, but don't think I will try it again.

Sum of all Thrills is a tighter enclosure than Mission Space ???

Yikes - thanks for letting me know! Sum of all Thrills is new since our last visit and on my list of things to try this Oct. But now ... maybe not.

I can't do Mission Space or Stitch's Great Escape. I also gave up ToT because the last time I rode it we sat in the dark without moving for several minutes after the drops ended before the doors opened. I get these crazy thoughts that they forgot about us and nobody will ever open the doors and I'll be trapped forever and the panic sets in.....I know I'm crazy but it's a horrible feeling! :scared1:

What has started bothering me about Mission:Space is not the small space, but the shoulder harness. I used to ride this over and over. Then one day the ride didn't start right away. It suddenly dawned on me that I was trapped. I started to panic a little, but the ride started and I was fine. I has done this twice. I have a hard time making myself ride it now. I hate that, because this used to be one of my favorite rides. I was the one always telling the other people in line that there wasn't any thing to worry about. I wish they would get rid of those bars. They really don't think they need them. I've ridden lots of centrifuge rides and none of them had shoulder harnesses.

The only way I'll ever even talk about doing it again is if someone I really love begs me and even then, wouldn't go on.

I've never had a panic attack, no history of anxiety or claustrophobia. I've never had any trouble on any ride but I nearly FREAKED OUT on Mission Space Orange. I was seriously looking for the "Panic button". I thought they said there was one in the pre-ride tutorial but I didn't see such a button. It was towards the end of the launch segment when I was pretty sure my "gals" were going to crush my ribs.

I never like to spoil anyone's fun. I would just put up with an uncomfortable ride so as not to inconvenience anyone else. I'm very sensitive to other peoples' wants and feelings. However, I would've pushed that panic button and stopped that ride, even if it was someone's last ride in WDW in their life! It was that bad. :crazy2:

I wasn't right for a long time afterward. I felt dizzy/nauseated/headache for a while after.
