Atonement.

This is explained more in the book. Robbie had pretty much been around their family for years. His mother is one of the housekeepers (I'm sure everyone got that part) and in the scene where they're walking to the fountain the discussion is something along the lines of...

C-...he says you plan on becoming a doctor
R- I'm thinking about it, yes
C- with 6 years of student life?
R- How else do you become a doctor?
C-You could get a fellowship now, couldnt you?
R- I don't want to teach
C- Youre first!
R- I said I'd pay your father back
C- That's not what I meant at all

A better example is probably...

B- Cee?
C- Yes?
B- Why don't you talk to Robbie anymore?
C- I do..we just move in different circles, that's all.

(I told you I knew the script by heart  )
So they apparently used to talk, or hang out, a lot..but maybe as their feelings grew it got too awkward, so they backed away from each other?
It sounds a lot like Robbie and Cecilia have gotten to know each other really well. I think that when they both "openly admit" to liking each other, it doesn't seem to fit with the movie because as viewers, we don't see the years behind them..we just see them fight at a fountain, and then proceed to have sex in a library

The way I see the thing with the man in the hospital, is that he honestly doesn't know what he's saying, and Briony tells him he loves him, because she know's he's going to die, and feels bad. (If I remember correctly, she says that after she loosens his bandage and gasps at his wound)

The conversation starts off with-

Cornet- Here you are, at last.
B-The Sister sent me. For a little chat.
C-Oh, yes, I remember your sister. She was always so nice. What’s she doing now?

:headache: He's delusional.

Or maybe I'm delusional :rotfl:
Ahh, I see. Books are so much better than movies. I'll have to go find it at the library.

I figured there was some backstory with them but the movie didn't do a great job of explaining that.

I figured the guy was a little delusional, but then he got me all confused.

And yes, you are a little delusional, just in general. ;)
