Atmosphere at Values???

Get real people- there are others things to worry about in life, such as the rising gas prices, world hunger, poverty, war, etc etc...

Hey, I am on your side, but I kinda hate it when people say things like this.

If we were only allowed to talk about "real" worries, this board wouldn't exist. People are allowed to talk about whatever trivial things they want to and shouldn't be made to feel guilty about venting or expressing an opinion.

We have stayed at all 3 levels of resorts and I think it is quite true that problems can happen at any level. Overall we enjoy the mod level the best (4 kids, need two rooms, and that makes the deluxe an unreasonable cost to us). We are not as happy at a value level resort...still happy (we are in disney afterall), but not our preference.

The reason we do not prefer value is that we found in our two stays (ASSp and ASMu) is that the pace at the resort itself is frantic...park like. Some people really like this, but we prefer to leave the hectic feeling of the parks behind when we return to our resort. We are looking for a bit of relaxation and peace at the resort and we found this hard to find at the values (we did find a few moments at the quiet pools each trip).

Happy resort picking!

You are correct that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but sometimes people get carried away and always assume that anyone that stay at a value resort are low class people and that is all that they can afford. I don't think this is right. No one is any better than anyone else on these boards.

I agree that this thread has gotten a wee bit out of hand  , but again, if you want to go to WDW for say a week and the Value is all you CAN afford, that also doesn't make you "low class" That label just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There's nothing wrong, imho, with not being able to afford a higher level of resort, I'd rather spend the money to stay a little longer.

:flower3: :grouphug: and just for good measure  Dancing Bananas!!!!

Well the poster did not say it was for those that could ONLY afford. She said for those that CHOSE to afford. Big difference. It amazes me how some get so defensive when they can't even read a post correctly. Leave it to the DIS to start jumping down someones throat. This is what the poster said:

I think choose to afford is not a valid phrase in that context.
the phase -What you like is fine.
the phase -Choose to stay would have been appropriate .
But the phase Choose to afford does not make sense.:confused3
One can either afford somthing or they can't. They do NOT choose to afford it.

JMHO

I just think the poster meant choosing to spend. To me they are the same thing. She didn't say what they could only afford. She said chose. Some posters here just look for fights. I stopped coming here for a year because of that. Unfortunately it looks like business as usual here on the DIS.

You may be right about that.
I would like to make a public apology to geokeim if I misunderstood the post.
I already sent a personal apology to geokeim via PM.

We usually stay at Deluxe resorts, AKL is our favorite, but we are thinking of doing a very LOW BUDGET trip in September. Our kids are 19 and 24 so we were thinking of getting 2 rooms at a value resort. We have never been to any of the value resorts so I don't know what to expect. We have stated at POFQ and I think it is a beautiful resort. We do spend time at the resort relaxing by the pool or just walking around exploring. What is it like at the values? I don't care about the room as I know they are smaller and not as "fancy" I am just wondering about the grounds, some of the pictures I have seen seem to show all concrete and no grass!!!! Any info would be helpful, thanks!

Edited to add: Our kids don't usually vacation with us anymore but this has been a very stressful year for all of us. DS moved across country from us in August (and we haven't seen him since then), DH spent the entire month of August in the hospital and almost died, DD has been in and out of the hospital all year due to a serious health problem, and my dad died suddenly in September. When the kids were younger we went to Disney every year and have great memories of those vacations. This trip is to help us re-connect and de-stress after a tough year!

After the year you have had your family definitely need a vacation! :grouphug: Sorry for the tough time you've been having.

Just an idea, But have you considered renting DVC points & staying in a 1 or 2bedroom villa? You can find some real bargains on the rental board here on the Dis.

As for as my opinion on the values, we have only stayed at ASM one time & for one night. We were in the Jazz, the room was very nice & overlooked a kid's play area. We didn't have any problems with the noise level in or near the room. The pool area was very busy, but not so loud the DH & I were unable to sit out there to eat & have a drink. I did find the food court very loud, confusing & it totally stressed me out. That's why we took our food outside, sat near the bar & had 2 long island teas!!

Say what you want about what class of people are where.. I dont care about any of that. I will say that I have yet to hear drunks around the pool at 3am, loud chearleaders, or rogue groups of teens towel whipping each other at a moderate. Generally large more unsupervised groups do not stay there. I just apply the law of averages. Common sense tells anyone that staying at a value does increase your chances of these groups.

I estimate 70% of people staying at the values have tattoos on their neck.

That's just my estimate after staying there.

Not that tattoos on the neck are a bad thing... I saw a guy with the Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull tattooed on his forehead once. Sweet!

Please tell me you're kidding.

You are kidding, right?

After reading some of the posts on this thread, I am appalled at the amount of judgemental and compartmentalizing that is done as to where someone may stay. Bear in mind, this is Disney, not Motel 6 at the beach on spring break. I personally hope that no matter where I stay, the people doing the harsh judging are not staying where I stay.

WOW, I did not mean to start such a controversial thread! I was not asking about the "class of people" that stay at Value Resorts, I was just wondering about the atmosphere, I guess I should have worded it differently; maybe I should have ask about the landscaping or the grounds. I am just looking for someplace that has nice grounds, I am sure that there are "good & bad" people at all the resorts.

We usually stay concierge when we go, not because we are better then anyone else but because we work hard to save the money and really want to relax and enjoy it. This year we have way too many medical bills plus the added expense of an unexpected trip to Texas when my dad died and my husband was off of work for 3 months when he was sick. I love POFQ and was just trying to decide whether we should all cram together in 1 room or get 2 rooms at a value. This year I am lucky that we can afford a trip at all and will just be happy to have the family in 1 place to have fun.

Thanks to everyone that expressed their concern and to the people that offered opinions. We will be staying at POP and I am sure we will have a great trip.

I did consider renting points for a DVC resort but we are going during the Free Dining and I did not think you could get that package with a DVC resort.

Have stayed at ASsports twice when kids were younger- mine are 19 & 22 now but it was great. If you ask to stay on 2nd floor its quieter and dont ask to have a pool view- can be noisy. We stayed in the baseball building in the back and at night we could see the fire works at Magic Kingdom from outside the room(2nd floor)- Each building has a seperate pool which is quieter than the main pool. The food court is great - good selection. So if your budgeting this is the place to go. As far as all concrete- not at all- the paths that wind between each building have alot of greenery and palm trees, and in the cement paths are stencils of plants(interesting to see) Not the same as a deluxe I am sure or a moderate but for the money a good value.

Lat year stayed at CBR since my kids are older and figured would be last family trip, DD grad from college and will be on her own this year, but also brought my mom, because my dad passed and we thought she would like the trip. Loved the tropical theme.

Going again this Sept taking advantage of free dining and just DH and i 25th wedding anniversary- staying at POR.

To me any Disney resort is wonderful, so enjoy:cool1: - and sorry for all the troubles you have had:sad2:

IMO - Class has everything to do with the person and nothing to do with money. I've seen as much bad behavior at moderates and deluxes as I have at the value resorts. Seen a lot of super nice folks too. I think the level of bad behavior your apt to see really depends more on the time of year and crowd levels when you visit Disney. Here's my take on the resorts.

We've stayed at POP, ASSports & ASMovies - the buildings are spaced closer together, there are, at times, are tour groups and there are many families with young kids. Yes, at times, the resort seems a little noisy but nothing out of control. Disney theming all the way.

Have also stayed at Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. These can also get noisy and seem busy with people because of interior corridors and also many visitors from other resorts for dining, sightseeing, etc.. I particularly felt this way at Contemporary.

Also stayed at POR and CSR. To me the moderate resorts are the most spread out among all of the Disney resorts and for that reason seem to be the most quiet and relaxing. POR tends to see some tour groups as well.

IMO, all of the pool areas, lobbies and food courts at every resort have a tendency to be noisy and busy which is logical as those areas are where people are congregating.

To me, all of the food courts have nice selections, bussing is no better or worse at any of the resorts, we were able to find our own quiet areas at each place and we've had wonderful Disney vacations at each and every one of them.

It sounds to me like you've had a rough year and are looking to re-group with your family and recapture some Disney magic. I think you will be able to do that no matter where you stay. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and magical vacation and I wish you all good things in the coming years. Have a wonderful trip. :)

DaisyD, there is much, much more good on this board than bad, unless you're expecting and looking for the bad.
