What is the easiest way to get there from the port, and is it worth it.

I may be wrong, but from what I have read on these posts you are better off doing it on your own rather than a DCL excursion. We are about to go on our first ever cruise and I definitely want to see Atlantis. I have read quite a few threads on this board and most people seem to recommend doing it on your own. Is that right, everyone? I ended up NOT booking the excursion with DCL. My Passporter Guide says that it is easy to take a taxi or water taxi to Atlantis from port. Apparently they are readily available at the port too. They must swarm the area. I think that I read on another post that the taxis (on road) are faster than water taxis and drop you off closer to the Atlantis entrance. I don't know if it is worth it or not since I haven't been yet. I can post that answer in a week, after our cruise, because we do plan to do it. We plan to get a taxi at the port and tour it at our own pace.

TLHB70- you're right, it is easy to catch a taxi to Atlantis. We did it last January. The taxi vans are right there at the pier and they will drop you off right at the entrance to Atlantis. Taxis are also waiting for you at the same drop off point when you decide you want to return. The ride is a little wild but I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Going to Atlantis is by far the best thing to do while in port if you want to get off the ship.

How much did it cost for the taxi ride? Also, did you play in the casino and if so, was it easy to locate?

We just got back from 4 nights at Atlantis and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised! I've read so many things kind of down on Nassau here, and I can understand that as a whole. Atlantis, however, was fabulous! I will say that it took us about three hours just to wander the grounds to get our bearings and to walk around the lagoons, find the various pools/slides, and figure out what we wanted to see in the different aqarium displays. The Dig was very cool, and the Predator pools are awesome. Food is very expensive - what we ate was very good, but also extremely pricey. The slides are way cool - if you do the innertube slide in the temple, do it on a double tube with someone else - you go much faster that way! All in all, I'd go back someday once the kids are a little older and taller for the slides. (We were there alone this time - for a business trip, of all things! :D )

Looking at the excursions, I would say that going and only being able to look at the exhibit stuff would probably be kind of frustrating - I'd be eye-balling those slides and those aren't included!

The casino - yes, it's easy to find from either of the main entrances. I did pretty well - won $100 on a quarter slot and over $50 on a nickel wheel of fortune slot. Gave me enough to play blackjack for about, oh, 20 minutes!

I paid $5 per person, that including the toll to Paradise island. I wouldn't really pay more then that. The taxi will drop you off right at the entrance, and the casino is right as you walk in... can't miss it.

I have read somewhere that right at the port you can buy some kind of wrist band to give you entrance to Atlantis (that is if you don't get a day room). Is that the only way to gain entrance if you catch a taxi? Or can you catch the taxi at the port, have it drop you off at the entrance, and then pay for entrance once you are at Atlantis? Is the cost the same for both? Which is the better way to do it? Our cruise is Sunday and we will be in Nassau on Monday! YEAH!!!!!

We bought the wristbands at Atlantis. Our cab driver was nice enough to even walk us in and show us whick desk to go to to purchase them. The bands were $25.00
