Has anyone been to Atlantis in the Bahamas? We're trying to decide if we would like to go there for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Any feedback would help. Thanks. :)

We went over there while docked in Nassau on the Disney Cruise - in 2001 and last summer as well. Loved the aquarium tour, and the casino was fun too... We haven't stayed there, but I do remember how GORGEOUS the beaches were in the area, and just loving the place... I hope you enjoy it if you do decide to go!

Congrats on 25 years! :)

for the Atlantis? Anyone know of who offers special deals/packages? The rates on the website are rack rates, I'lve seen some rates for less than $100/night go by on direct email incentives to individuals who had previously visited the Atlantis. We too would like to spend about a week there in the next year or so...

We too would love to go there next year for our 10th anniversary. It just looks so beautiful on TV.

Bumping in the hopes someone has been there....... :)

The whole Bahamas thing was pretty scarry (to us at least) we will never take our young children there again.

What do you mean???

For my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary they took my family and my cousins and aunts and uncles. We LOVED it. It's right up there with Disney, but for different reasons. It's sooooo nice, very luxurious. So relaxing. Theres tons to do. The resort is beautiful, spent the days by the pool putting up my little flag on my chair whenever I wanted a drink :), riding waterslides, pedalboating, swimming with dolphins (paid extra).

Atlantis isn't "the bahamas" per se. It's very Americanized, yet its still beautiful. I never felt scared or unsafe.

It was one of the best vacations I ever took. If you have any questions, let me know. We stayed in the Royal Towers. I know that they tend to offer special rates during different times, but thats all I know. My dad said its cheap now, he actually came up to me today and asked if I wanted to go in August.

Atlantis is a beautiful resort. We spent a week there in October of '99. Unfortunately for us they were still cleaning up from Hurricane Floyd so the surf was rough and the beaches had considerable damage. However, it didn't dampen our spirits one bit, we enjoyed the pools and the lazy river ride. I braved the "tall" water slide ONCE  but loved the more tame slides on the other side. The food was amazing at all the restaurants we never went away disappointed in anything we ordered. The staff at the hotel was incredibly friendly and more than helpful with anything we needed.
We spent one day walking around the Straw Market and shops along that street (I forget the name) it was a quick taxi ride from the hotel. We took a water taxi on the way back and I wished we had just taken a regular taxi! The water taxis looked barely seaworthy

There's no way to pick just one thing we liked best about Atlantis, although there is something so serene about sipping a beverage poolside while a steel drum band is playing!!

I has been a couple of years for us, maybe someone else has been there more recently and can give you more up to date answers. I am willing to give it a shot though.

What was scary about it? DH and I are going there, in July for our 25th anniversary...what should I be worried about???

Dana...friends of our went to Nassau a few years ago and stayed at SuperClub Breezes (which is where we are staying). They went to check out Atlantis one day and couldn't believe the amount of kids in the pool! SuperClub Breezes is for 16 and older, no kids. They said the resort was really nice, but they were so glad they stayed at Breezes, because of all the kids at Atlantis. (She has two of her own, so she's not a person who hates kids)

Sharon, the kids in the pool area doesn't bother us. Heck, we go to Disney, so we're already trained in that area. So far I haven't seen or heard a real negative thing about "Atlantis." That "scary" thing, written in the previous post, does pique my interest. I wonder if that means that there's no beer. AAAHHHH! :)

We love Atlantis! We went last June and had a great time! It is so beautiful and so much to do. Be sure to bring a big, fat wallet because it is very, very expensive.

For us, the scary thing about the Bahamas was the cab drive to and from the airport! Yikes!

You'll love it at Atlantis!

We have stayed at Atlantis 2x and visited once with DCL. Skipped it in Feb. The only thing we didn't like was the Casino. We see enough of those;) Maybe dahess is talking about the locals trying to sell you stuff, braid hair etc. at the cruise docks and downtown.Or maybe the overloading of the water taxis if you take that route over to PI. Overall we love the resort and Paradise Island and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.:)

I found nothing scary about Nassau when we were a few years ago. Now if you want scary try Jamaica where they warn you not to leave your resort after dark and if you do they tell you which taxis to use.

Nassau in general wasn't the most "safe" towns, as far as we could see - but we followed the advice of hte DCL people who told us to just stay on the 2 main streets where the tourist stores are... I remember someone we met up with told us they wandered too far and was asked to buy drugs. That's "normal" for Bahamas, as soon as you get out of the normal touristy areas... As far as Atlantis, though, it wasn't scary - just the cab ride over there was. ;)
