I am ready to plan for a one or two day side trip in late Dec. .. I would like to go to the Atlantic side since we did the gulf side last trip. We were thinking of the Space center but it was more expensive than I expected.. is it worth if for a casual interest in space stuff?? Is there anything that I should make sure and not miss?? Also, is it safe to just find a hotel or are reservations a neccessity? Thanks!

I was there in 1975 as a junior in hs, and then again in 1997 with my DH, DS,DS,DD, and in-laws. Enjoyed it in 1975, took a bus tour that took you right to a launch sight and right into launch control among other thins. In 1997 took but tour again, long lines, some rude people, and everythignw as set up to resemble a launch sight. I felt this last time it was too commercialized. There were a few nice things, the memorial to the fallen astronauts, but totally different then in 75. Enjoyed it much more as a 16 year old then I did as a mom of 3. Kids weren't tooimpressed either.

Kennedy Space Center does have a number of interesting exhibits and shows, as well as just being a nice way to get out of the theme park madness for a day. Couple it with a trip down the coast to Cocoa Beach (with dinner out on the Pier) and you have a nice, relaxing day.

Depending on the ages of any children in your party, KSC is quite the educational experience. It's not high-thrills, high-energy, but it's worth visiting just the same.

We did Daytona Beach. It was a 50-60 minute drive. However, DS & DH are Nascar fanatics. So, we did the racetrack tour (which I'm not a Nascar Fan-- and I found it really upbeat and interesting). Then we went to the beach. It was really nice. We have never been to a beach where you could drive on the beach. Then we also went through some of the shops. DS wanted to rent the 4 wheelers and drive on the beach-- we will next time. Just another option.
