Hello all... DW and I planning on doing an overnight at one of the Atlantic City casinos next month to celebrate our anniversary. Looking for a good deal on a hotel. Plan to take in a nice meal, maybe a show. Possibly drop a few coins in the slots ?

Anyone been recently and have suggestions to check out - OR, to avoid ? TIA. :thumbsup2

Tropicana is nice. We stay there. Lots of restaurants and nightlife. Check groupon for a deal. I've seen a few deals lately.

I second the vote for the Tropicana. Lots of restaurants and there's a comedy club and the Imax. Love the Quarter to just walk and look in some of the quaint shops.

Tropicana is nice for a good deal... however I have never had a room that was very clean... from regular to JR. suites. Things like 1/2 yes 1/2 inch of dust on the AC vents to peeling wall paper to hair in bathroom.
If you are looking for a nicer room all though it is way off on its own I would suggest the Borgata. if you want something on the main strip that is not a casino try the Atlantic Palace, it is a timeshare but the rooms are clean and the prices are fair.... The Sheraton is also nice but away from the main strip and you should take a taxi period. The skyline tower (timeshare as well) is also nice a little off the main strip but ok to walk to at night....

While is isn't the cheapest the Borgota is probably the best in terms of room and condition. I haven't stayed at the Revel but as it is the newest I'm sure their rooms are nice. Caesars/Ballys is probably the best as far as location. They are in the center of the Boardwalk and their rooms are pretty decent. They are also a block off of the outlets for shopping, and the Piers shops are right across the Boardwalk. Check out the entertainment at the Boardwalk hall for when you are interested in going as it right by Caesars. You would be better getting a room from Sun to Thurs as the weekend rates are high since we are coming into the summer season.

Ok... so I'll keep an eye on Tropicana for a deal. At the moment Harrah's (back on the bay) has the best room rate. Borgata looks like its got some nice dining options (DW is a Bobby Flay fan). And Taj has an entertaining possibility for a show. That said, I'm not sure I want to spend the whole night running around town.

Keep those suggestions coming. Much appreciated !

Be advised that rooms are astronomically expensive over the weekend (Friday and Saturday) during the summer.

Absolutely. We are looking at a Tuesday or a Wednesday for just this reason.

The Chelsea runs good deals from time to time and was nice. Just make sure to stay in the NEW tower, not the old one. The Chelsea is literally across the street from the Tropicana on the Boardwalk.

I really liked the Tropicana. We've stayed there several times. Whichever casino you choose, go ahead and sign up for the players card on their website. They email great deals, and after you gamble, you'll get emailed comp room deals all the time. Even if you don't gamble/spend a huge amount. The players card will also get you coupons within the casino. Don't buy anything without checking your account at a kiosk, as it changes the coupons. They could be free parking, free drink, discounted drinks or food etc..

Great tip. Thanks ! :thumbsup2

We've stayed at a few places going twice a year for the last five years but Resorts is our favorite. The place is small which we love as well as the dining options. For your anniversary Caprricio is an Italian restaurant that you can have an ocean view. Gallaghers is the steak house that also has seafood.

The location is great. If you are going to do a show a the Taj it's connected through interior walkway if it's raining. Showboat is then connected to Taj. It's an easy walk down the boardwalk to the middle section (Caesars). At an easy pace it's about 20 minutes to boardwalk hall the another five/ten to trop.

For entertainment they just put in a beach bar outside of landshark bar. Haven't been there yet. Margaritaville always has something going on also. We love the 5 o'clock somewhere bar where they have $3 drafts with some TVs and you're in the middle if the casino.

We have yet to stay there but as mentioned Tropicana seems to have the most dining/entertainment options (Carmine's is on our must visit list every time). Revel is the newest (but farthest from middle of boardwalk) and Borgata seems to get the best reviews (although I'd recommend staying on the boardwalk).

The only casino resort I may stay away from is trump plaza. I've stayed there twice and actually love the east tower. It's dated like most atlantic city rooms, but the view is amazing, and the central location of the hotel is great. However, everything is closed in the plaza for the most part (bars/restaurants) during the week and the casino is dead. I don't have any problem staying there and oddly like it, but not on a special occasion first time trip.

I second the Borgata. Old Homestead is a great anniversary dinner spot, love the comedy club, great clean and fresh rooms, and awesome table and floor games.

We always stay at the Borgata, it's much nicer then the boardwalk hotels. I recently stayed at the Tropicana with a friend and could not believe what a dump the room was. The wallpaper was peeling away from the wall, junkie furniture, not very clean, really bad. Borgata has nice restaurants and a nice food court, which includes a Ben & Jerry's. It also has the Jitney that will bring you to the boardwalk, if you want to go there for a while. Have fun!

i cannot vouch for Hotwire but i have been getting emails from them with specials for Atlantic City area for as low as $29 a night during the week.

My mom and I always stay at the Borgata. It's probably my favorite. It's not far from anything, we're always getting emails for rooms from our plalyers cards and as a fellow huge Bobby Flay fan his restaurant there is fantastic. We've done the other shows and comedy club and they've all been fantastic. We try not to spend too much, and Borgata usually fits that.

The Trop has good rates...but you pay for it on the back end with how dirty it can be.

I think Harrah's is a great choice. I live in Brigantine Beach which is a great little island across the bridge from Harrah's, the Borgata and the Golden Nugget. I worked at Harrah's for years it is a great property. While the Marina area isn't on the boardwalk, there is plenty to do. The Nugget has the Deck which is a great casual bar and grill, Borgata and Harrah's both have great restaurants. If you are interested in a quiet beach town you are five minutes from Brigantine Beach where I am located. My husband works at the Nugget and made a commercial for the Do AC campaign. If you have any questions, I should be able to answer them.

That's why I love this place... Folks who visit frequently. Folks who even live and work there ! Still soaking up all you've got to give me, my fellow DISers. popcorn::

If you want clean, nicely decorated rooms then stay at the Borgata. You might pay more but it's worth it. They have the nicest casino and the best restaurants and the joint is always jumping.

We stayed at Harrah's once and never again...

Sign up for the player's card wherever you decide to stay. My husband gets all kinds of comps (rooms, bonus slot dollars, invites to tournaments, gifts, etc.)

We really like the pool at the golden nugget. During the week you can rent a day bed for about 20.00 It is celeb status.
I also like Harrahs they have an indoor pool, never used it but would be nice on a cold or rainy day.
I have stayed at the trop. If the room is inexpensive it is a good choice.
We like to hit the Happy Hours in The Pier. Buddacan has $5 apps 3-6 with drink specials, we also love to eat dinner there.
