Hey everyone. Just wondering if any of you follow the Atkins or any other low-carb diet and could spare some low-carb friendly dining experiences. Most places offer a steak or chicken selection anyway but curious as to whether chefs can accomodate such as chicken parm sans the bredding, burger no bun etc...

This year both myself and df will be low-carbing it and we love to do at least 1 sit down per day. We have ap's so we can do plenty of park dining too!

Advice, tips, special request concoctions, much appreciated!

Thanks alot!

I did low carb 4 trips now and didn't gain any weight for any of them!

I did cheat a little bit with an ice cream bar here and there and desserts like creme brulee and cheesecake but I did pretty well. I also would have a couple of bites of some of my sides that had potatos, rice or pasta in it but only a tiny bite.

Most sit downs had steak and chicken so I didn't find it difficult at all. Plenty of salads too.

With all the walking, I either maintained my weight or lost! :thumbsup2

There is Splenda everywhere and Coke Zero in the food courts. Light Lemonaide can be found at some drink carts. I also found Sprite Zero in the cart in front of the Castle.

I ate in places like Le Cellier, Tony's, 50's Prime Time, Sci-Fi, CP, Chef Mickey's, CRT dinner, MM and they all had steak or chicken or roast beef and for breakfast I had eggs and bacon. I did have a little breakfast lasagna at CP but not much. Hey I'm on vacation!

Good luck!

From someone, and his wife, who have been low carbing for over 3 years, and each have lost over 100lbs, now maintaining.....don't worry about it too much!

Don't mean to sound harsh, but your on vacation! Yes, it's VERY easy to stay low carb at DW, but, depending on how long you have been doing this, you may be surprised how much having a few cheats a day, or that week, may HELP in losing weight. :)

Seriously though, most of the restaurants have very viable low carb choices, and make it pretty easy. We have never had a problem with the food choices. Also though, I'm not really joking above when I say just enjoy yourselves. Your going to be doing a LOT of walking, and frankly, and yes, I am a hard core low carber, in the end, it's calories in\calories out. Carbs, fat or protein really doesn't matter all that much. (Chalk that up to again, doing this for over 3 years). :goodvibes (But no, I STILL don't advocate eating sugar OR white flour):thumbsup2 .

I am a very low carb person, but when we go to WDW my goal is to have fun and enjoy myself to the max which means a whole week without worrying too much about what carbs I'm eating. Basically before we go I will probably eat even few carbs than normal, and excercise even harder, and after we come back I will really work hard at purging all the carbs out, but while we are there I will probably not think too much what I eat (including deserts).
Athough there are a few things that I will do. For example I will be drinking only Crystal Light instead of any soda, and still avoiding most snacking between meals (although I'm sure a few snacks might be snuck in). I will also make sure to take my Lopid before each meal. Plus, all the walking that we will be doing will also be helpful. I figure that I have the rest of the year to be good and watch my carbs. I don't think one week of being bad will hurt too much.

I am on a diabetic diet of 45 carbs per main meal and 15 carbs for snacks .....and I ate and ate and ate and I was very contented and didnt test high on my blood sugars at all...I mean I didnt eat the whole plate of pasta ..not because my diet said no....but because their portions are huge to begin with....I know that walking the way we do Disney..made it so I could splurge and enjoy our trip and food at all the cs restuarants and sit down restuarants.......have fun

Buffets are a good choice...always many meat selections, steamed veggies and salads....and desserts tend to be in mini portions so you can indulge a little.

Counter service tends to be a little more difficult, but not impossible. They will serve burgers without the bun on request, there are always salad options...tuskers has a great grilled salmon with green beans...cosmic rays has roasted chicken and ribs and there are usually options for the inevitable fries.

First, Thank you for all the replies!

I too am guilty of going off.... even way off while in WDW. The only problem I had last time with going off was due to our vacations being just over the 2 week mark...One can do alot of damage in that amount of time ! so we figured we would just cut back a bit on the carbs...maybe not commando-carb free but a definite cut back.

If we stick to whole grain breads and pitas, avoid sugary desserts at every meal and white flower products, especially mashed potatoes (they just make me feel crappy now anyway)...I'm guessing we will be all set.

Can't wait for the Boma Buffet...A LC's Heaven on Earth!

:)

We'll be there next month and I'm an LC-er. I am going to try to mostly be good, but I am going to allow myself some cheats. I mean, it's WDW! :)
