ATA 757 overshoots runway at Midway - no injuries..

Was it a "stretch" 757 (i.e. a 757-300)?
We fly to Orlando out of Midway on ATA an average of once a month, and no matter how many times we do it, those short runways still make me nervous! Not too long ago, I was on a flight where the pilot had to abort the landing at the last minute due to a sudden tailwind. There's no way they can stop one of those huge planes on those micro-runways with any short of push.
I'm glad that everyone is fine and that they didn't wind up in the drive-through of the White Castle on Cicero Ave!

I am not sure if it is a stretch 757 or not... At first glance it looked like one, it has the new paint scheme... You are absolutely right about Midway's infamous short runways. The 757-300 is the largest plane to be certfied to land there... It is always 'exciting' when you land in one those big birds there and they have to slam on the brakes... ;)

I spoke to my dad about this today and he was talking about the short runways as well. He used to be a pilot and would land DC-9s there and even with those smaller planes he said that landing there was a challenge....

It was a challange in the prop days. Lots of pilots lived around Midway in it's hey day. I grew up there. I remember several pilots say that you couldn't come in on a standard glide path. It may be different today. They said it was more like landing into a fish bowl. You came in steep and had to flare it out over the runway. It was done this way because of all the houses around the airport. I flew in on a DC-4 once. When we hit the runway we went to full brakes and reverse prop. If we didn't have seat belts all of us would have been up helping the pilot stop. They used east-west runways then too. And they where shorter than the ones they use today.
