At which age(s) do you think wearing a string bikini is inappropriate?

At the beach today I saw someone for whom I thought it was totally age inappropriate. After I see some responses I'll post this person's approximate age.

Two answers - for women of age, whatever age the person feels good in one.

For children - depends on how revealing it is. Not all string bikinis are created equal. I don't like sexualizing children.

EDIT Ok I jumped to the conclusion that it was an older person. Not sure why I did. So I guess there is an age at which it can be too young, but not too old. But again, people dont always look their age so I would hesitate to judge. Some cultures are also more comfortable with nudity so I would probably mind my own business.

While I don't think there is a "correct age," I do think that a two piece should be age appropriate.

ETA: I would say late teens (think college) for a string bikini.

I think at least 18. My daughter is 11 and I bought her a 2 piece bathing suit but it was nowhere near a string bikini. I think a girl should be closer to an adult to wear something that skimpy and revealing.

I think age makes no difference. Who the heck am I to say? If a person is comfortable and happy wearing a string bikini - you go girl!

There isn't a magic number that correlates.

Edited to say - if we are talking about children wearing a suit that has minimal coverage - NO!

I have a 60 year old friend who looks better than most 20 year olds. She runs daily, swims, and is a perfect little size 2. She looks fantastic in a bikini.

I have seen people with back fat so bad that it swallows the strings wearing them, and these are young women in their 20s.

I'm not the bikini police, so I don't much care, but age is just a number.

This was an adult and not young - think geriatric. The woman was thin and could definitely do a bikini if it had been age appropriate. I have no problem with people wearing what they are comfortable with, but I think they should also have some consideration for what other people have to look at - especially young children on a public beach. Shall we say there were bits and parts hanging down and out that just shouldn't have been on public view. Yeah, those, teeny tiny triangles didn't cover enough.

I don't know... even if the body is fabulous if she turns around and it's someone's granny looking at me I would tend to say the bikini is too young for her.

BTW- I have never worn a bikini, even back in the day when I had the body. I just didn't have the confidence.

Are we to assume you are perfect and look perfect in your swimsuit? I am going to guess no.

Unless she was walking around completely naked then I don't really understand why young children would be traumatized?

Her self-image is far more important than what others think. I think it is wonderful that she has the confidence to dress that way. She is at the beach, right? I'd be willing to bet that the younger girls plenty hanging out of their suits to keep wandering eyes away.

yes, I know I'm probably judging but a 300 lbs gal in a string bikini (which I see often) is not my definition of appropriate.

It sounds like some inappropriate parts might have been on display in this case. That could be a bit nasty but it is ultimately up to her. Personally I think that the vast majority look or would look awful in a string bikini.

No age. Hey. You asked. String bikinis are generally unattractive garments, period. They rarely stay put so anyone wearing one runs the risk of exposing buttocks or breasts.

When I'm at the beach I don't care at all what others are wearing. I'm not there to gaze at bathing suits.
