From today's Orlando Sentinel
Disney's Orlando resort to get new leader

From Sentinel Staff Reports
Posted August 17, 2006, 11:34 AM EDT DISNEY NEWS

Walt Disney World this afternoon will announce the new leader of the Orlando resort.

Last November, Al Weiss, who has run the organization since 1994, was promoted to oversee all Disney parks worldwide. Weiss was running the local operation in the interim but said then there would be a search for a new person to oversee the local theme parks, water parks, time shares and hotels. Walt Disney World is the region's largest employer with about 58,000 employees.

Insiders and observers have speculated that possible candidates for the job include Karl Holz, president of Euro Disney SCA and a former senior vice president of operations for Disney World; and Jim Lewis, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club timeshares.

From Disney Press Release:

Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, today announced two key leadership changes at the Walt Disney World Resort. Meg Gilbert Crofton, a 27-year Disney veteran who has held executive leadership roles in worldwide Human Resources, Operations and Sales, has been promoted to President of the Walt Disney World Resort. In addition, Rasulo announced that 10-year Disney veteran Jim Lewis has been promoted to President of Disney Vacation Club. Both Crofton and Lewis will report to Al Weiss, President of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Thanks for the link.
Someone needs to clarify Jay Rasulo's quote
"Under Jim's leadership, Disney Vacation Club achieved significant growth, bringing total membership to nearly 300,000 individuals in 100 countries," said Rasulo.

I think that must be the number of primary, secondary and associate members they have listed on contracts? Seems to me they just announced going over 100,000 mark for members, didn't they?

Jim Lewis has been, I think, a pretty positive leader for DVC on our behalf. I'm of two minds should he get the promotion. On one hand, I'd hate to lose someone who I think has been a pretty good steward of our investment and he has brought some nice added value like the good AP discount and the ability to use the DDP.

On the other hand, it might be good for us DVCers to have someone running the whole show who understands DVC membership and what we bring to the party. Maybe smooth the negotiations to make some better point schedules for other Disney resorts or even DCL.

Stay tuned! :)

Thanks for the info. I may be reading too much into the quote

Under Jim's leadership, Disney Vacation Club achieved significant growth, bringing total membership to nearly 300,000 individuals in 100 countries," said Rasulo. "Jim's strong business acumen and passion for Guest and Cast experience have been key to this growing segment of our business, and he is poised to expand the operation into new markets."

sounds like a Disneyland may be the next DVC to tee up...or maybe they're are going to give offsites another go.

His name escapes me at the moment but one of the first DVC managers has been running Disneyland of late. Saw where he just left Disney to work for Starwood. Hope we don't lose Lewis if what he really wanted was the WDW job.

from the sentinel

Orlando Sentinel - A longtime Disney executive who for years has kept a low profile was named president of Walt Disney World on Thursday, instantly becoming one of Central Florida's most powerful business leaders.

"Meg Gilbert Crofton, director of human resources for all Disney parks and resorts, becomes the first woman to lead the Orlando attraction in its 35-year history.

Crofton, 52, succeeds Al Weiss, who last fall was chosen to lead Disney's worldwide stable of resorts and theme parks. She spent most of her 27 years with the company at Walt Disney World, holding key positions in personnel, operations and sales." :thumbsup2
