Ask me your Mission: SPACE questions!!!

Does this ride really simulate weightlessness like you are in space?

Did you notice any height / weight (i.e. big and/or tall) issues? Can you compare the capsule seat to any other ride?

6'4" can be an issue,
Erick

We are going to be at WDW from 6/28 to 7/5 so i'm hoping to sneak in a ride.

I'm a little worried though. Star Tours and Body Wars (and Tea Cups!) make me queazy. But I've got to try this once. I'll do it on an empty stomach I guess.

Does something like Dramamine help with these types of rides?

Thanks
Gregg

Great question. I forgot to ask that. I am 6'9" ....

Seems like most news rides lately have at least one or two "tall" seats or rows for larger people.

You may not know this, but will Mission: Space be open early (during EMH) and late (until 9:00) just like Test Track?

It sure feels like it. It's hard to tell just how long these moments of weightlessness last (it couldn't be more than a few seconds at a time), but it still a very intruiging feeling. It seemed longer than what you experience on the Tower of Terror to me.

"Are they allowing anyone to ride this ride now? We'll be there June 21."

I would not count on it. It is my understanding that next week the ride will be completely shut down while Walt Disney Imagineering gets the final two centrifuges up and running (only two are working right now). What happens after that I really do not know. The CMs repeatedly pointed out that the soft openings of the last few days were a special occasion, and that the ride doesn not actually open until August 15. Your best bet is to keep checking these boards for any news, and once you are there, stop by the ride every few hours to see if anything is happening there. Good luck!

I am 6'2", and thr Rock n' Rollercoaster harnesses are a bit uncomfortable for me. I didn't have any problems with the ones on Mission: SPACE, and there was plenty of space for my legs as well. There is a mockup of a ride vehicle right at the entrance of the attraction that should give you a better idea of how spacious it is (although you can't climb in there). Next time I catch the attraction open, I'll try to take some pictures.

This ride's motion sickness potential appears to be quite high right now (something between Star Tours and Body Wars maybe), but I didn't experience any problems, and neither did the people I rode with. The acceleration left me a bit lightheaded, but that's pretty much it. Just be sure to keep your head all the way back against the headrest, and focus straight ahead.
Many people have used Dramamine for rides like Star Tours and Body Wars successfully, so I would think it'd work on this one as well.

It is such a major attraction that I would be surprised if it did not stay open until 9 once it officially opens. For the soft opening yesterday, it opened at 4 pm and shut down around 6 pm, but it's possible that it reopened again later.

I hope this helps! Keep the questions coming!

thanks so much for your post! dh and i are really looking forward to it in august! :)

we are both pooh-sized and tall and i was wondering if you think pooh-sized people will have issues??? thanks for easing my mind about the tall factor. :)

we both fit fine on rock n' roller coaster, if that helps for comparision.

caity -- read his post above! Looks like size isn't an issue here.

Caity,

The warning sign at the entrance does mention that people of "certain shapes and sizes" may not be able to ride", but I think that most people who are fine on the Rock n Roller coaster would also do ok on Mission: SPACE. I didn't see anyone being turned away for their size, and there were a few pooh-sized guests in line near me who apparently did fine.

Thanks for the prompt - and informative - response!

S.C. -

it was very impressive. I don't think they are stronger than on the Rock n' Roller Coaster, but they are sustained for much longer, which makes them feel so intense. I could feel my cheeks being literally pulled back - a very interesting sensation!

Thanks you so much for all your great info!!!!

We will be in the World August 19th-30th and we will definitely check this out!! Your descriptions have mde me very excited!!! It sounds AWESOME!!!!!

One question........does it at any time have any scarey parts? Can a child handle it well if he is tall enough without getting too frightened? This child has done ToT and RNR with no problems!!

my2boys,

Mission: SPACE is certainly intense, but if your kids are alright on the Rock 'n Roller Coaster and the ToT they will probably do alright on this. There are a couple of "surprises" that occur near the end of the ride, but I don't think they would truly scare anybody.

thanks for your response. i hope we'll be ok. i know dh will be devestated if he can't ride. so far we've been able to do everything we've been interested in at wdw. :)
