Ask a Webmaster- here's a chance to ask anything you've been wondering about!

Search seems to be the #1 frustration with posters and with mods now. You can use search with the California Gold skin, and I'm hoping it will continue to improve.)
I am set to California Gold, and still my search is mixed up. I usually see old old posts when I search. If we all send you a $1, can you pay someone to fix it?

I wanted to email you once about something that showed up in my message..but it went not read for ever. Do you read your pm's?

Kathy-

Kudos for this thread; I like the idea of being able to ask questions in an open forum like this.

Personally, I was hoping for a little more detail beyond "Heck, no!" concerning the resurrection of the debate thread, so I'll start with that plea.

Second, I'm very curious, in the interests of learning what is acceptable and what isn't, why posts that earn penalty points aren't labeled as such. If those posts are deleted, is there a way of letting the thread now that an infraction is occured?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I am wondering the name your beagle and if he/she is involved? I have a lovely boy with a good personality that is looking to hook up;)

How are moderators picked? Is it by one person or do you come to an agreement on who to ask?

Where you born a WebMaster?
When you first became a diser, did you pick the id "WebMasterKathy"?(and things just fell into place)
How come Pop Daddy is always one of the first to reply on a new thread?
Is there some sort of 5 minute Pop Daddy delay?
Who stole Pop Daddy's Sleeves?
If PD sleeves were put on Ebay, How much whould you bid?
What was the stoopiest thread you ever saw?
Why is so many Disers "in Search" of something? (sad really!)
When you are NOT Mastering the Web...You do Sumtin else?:confused3
Why has it been so long since NEW Smilies were introduced?
Which Diser do you HATE the most? :headache:
Can WebMasters put people on their Ignore list?
Who do we gotta talk to about a "spell check" feature?

Do you LOVE me?

One more! Do Webmasters get points? Or are they Above the LAW?

Are you sorry you started this thread?

:rotfl: I might skip around a bit her.

Yes, I was born a Webmaster. I knew I was meant to Master this Web even as a little child, so I had my parents legally change my name. :)

PD's sleeves ... that's just what happens when men do their own laundry.

I don't know why so many are "in search", but I feel for them. Poor lost souls!

When I'm not doing this, I'm a techie geek project manager. Or I'm being bossed around by my dog and my 14 year old. Or I'm driving my gas-guzzling SUV around town being a soccer mom. Or I'm having margaritas on my patio with friends. :sunny:

There aren't any posters I hate. There are some whose posts I always enjoy reading, and some whose posts I don't have a lot of interest in, though.

I don't know if I can put anyone on my Ignore list or not... but you can't put me on yours!

Webmasters can get points! That's why I don't post when drinking. :rotfl:

I think I know the answer to ONE of the questions being asked on here :rolleyes1

Here is my question: Kathy, I have sent you several PM's and Emails (to the address in your siggy). Is there a reason you haven't read/answered any of them? They all still show as unread.

Sorry about that- overworked and overwhelmed is my only excuse! I'll go back and check those.

I just checked the count in my PM box. It's currently over 7300. :scared1: Sometimes, I just scan for the ones that are really easy to take care of and leave the ones that require thought or action for later...

Have you guys ever figured out what the average age of the people who post on the CB is?

Ditto only where most of the posters live?

I've got a no points warning for posting a picture with a big file in my signature. I was having a blond moment. Will it ever go away?

Will we ever get some new smilies?

Can we please have a sub board for talking about TV shows. PLEASE! Sometimes it's really hard to find the threads.

Are you a Yankee or a Red Sox fan?

Good question. I sent some too and never received a response. :confused3 (ETA: I see your response.)

Also we had a thread on the DIS Meets board that was moved to the CB for basically being "too chatty/social and not enough planning". But since then I have noticed several threads that are chat threads on other boards. So I'm wondering why we were moved, and other chatty/social threads are allowed to remain on those boards?

Thanks in advance for your answer!! :)

Heres mine, is there anyway to see if a "new poster" is really just an alias and if you can, do you keep an eye on them?

We have several ways of doing this... sorry, can't really talk about this one much. :)

But they seem to "out" themselves by their own words and posts most of the time.

;) WATCH OUT FOR THOSE 14 YEARS OLDS......they can even slip by Webmasters!:3dglasses

Maybe I will change my siggy to 'Dont Drink And POST...EVER" in your honor!:goodvibes

Anyone ever been UN-banned?

Are you guys paid for your job?

Un-banning has happened. If there's been a misunderstanding, or if a banned poster can convince us that temporary insanity caused an unfortunate incident :crazy2: that led to a banning and that it won't happen again, the webmasters might reverse the ban. It has been known to happen. :)

There are a few folks that work for Pete, but most of us are unpaid volunteers who do this just because we love this place.

I get nothing but the satisfaction of trying to help around here.

I just have one question about the history of the DIS boards. It seems that when I started, the DIS was just one big board without categories. Then at some point, the separate boards happened (theme parks, resturants, etc.) Am I imagining this? Or if it really did happen, when was that switch?

Kathy says: I think I'll try this a different way, because I'm losing track of who's been answered! :rotfl:

Nope, you're not imagining! The DIS has gone through lots of changes since Pete started it. For the best details and a very entertaining trip down memory lane, grab your headphones and let Pete tell you the story in his own words!

Go to this page for a list of Podcast broadcasts: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-podcast/archives.htm

Start with the April 3 Podcast, and then listen to the May 1 Podcast. Pete talks about the History of the DIS on these days. You don't need any special software or to download anything, just click the "Listen Now" buttons.

You'll enjoy this- I promise!

What is the story behind the ouster of WebMaster Barry over on the Universal Boards?

Kathy says:

Sorry, but private issues with specific members are one area I really can't discuss publicly.

3- It's okay to post links to other websites, as long as it's not part of advertising or trying to make money from the folks here, and as long as the content there is clean and would be find if it were posted here. No links to dirty pictures or profanity, or to your personal eBay auctions. :)

So does this mean that we can post a link or mention other disney forums here without fear of being banned or yelled at?

Kathy says:

Posts to other websites are fine, as long as they are not filtered, don't contain advertising, or include inappropriate content.

*Why don't infractions ever fall off of a DIS'ers CP?

Kathy says:

It's helpful for the poster and the mods to have history. If a poster earns an infraction, carefully waits for those points to expire, and then repeats the same infraction, we want to know that. We do have some problems with posters who will "work" the system this way, and we want to be sure we have visibility into this.

*When infractions are assessed, the offending post/siggy violation/whatever isn't included in the Notice. Sometimes points are assessed and then one tries to find out exactly what one is guilty of and it's impossible because the post/siggy/whatever has been deleted. If the Points System has been instituted to get everyone to behave and for all of us to learn from our mistakes, it would be more of a learning experience (rather than just a punishment), if the actual offending matter would be included in the Notice.

Good point. I try to always include a cut and paste of the problem in the actual infraction notice that is sent to the poster, because they won't be able to see it otherwise if the post or thread is deleted. Anytime you have a question like this, the poster can either ask the Moderator listed on the infraction for more information, or they can ask the Webmasters by sending an email to admin@wdwinfo.com. I'll also share this suggestions with our moderators. :)

To all the questions about BoardTracker Search...take a look at the Tech Support Forum. There are at least two threads on there about it (including posts from BoardTracker him/herself). If the BoardTracker System isn't finding what you want, some DIS'ers have reported some success using a Yahoo or Google domain-name search (sometimes combined with the DIS'ers user-name).

agnes!

Sorry, I can't help much with Search.

My PM's also show up in my email box, and I often see and read them there instead of in my PM box.

What is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything?

Kathy says:

Wow. You *really* overestimate the powers of a webmaster. :)
