Ask a Webmaster- here's a chance to ask anything you've been wondering about!

Will search ever improve? And if not can we have a "class" on how to make it work for you? I don't get how some people can get it to work and some can't.

Also can the members list get turned on again.

And how is Nativetxn? I haven't seen her in ages.

Search seems to be the #1 frustration with posters and with mods now. You can use search with the California Gold skin, and I'm hoping it will continue to improve.

I don't think we'll be enabling the members list again. Have you checked the current count of members on the DISboards lately? Right now it's at 141,739, with a couple thousand typically online. You can't really use a list that large in any practical way. Also, that's another one of those search functions that's turned off, I think.

Nativetxn (Katholyn) checks in from time to time. She's a grandmother now, and thrilled about that! I'm hoping that she'll find time to pop in more often. Her "family" here means a lot to her, and I know that she'll love to know you asked about her. :)

Anyone ever been UN-banned?

Are you guys paid for your job?

1) Can the members list be on?
2) Who is the tag fairy?
3) How many post do you close a day?
4) How do people get so many post?
5) Who is your favorite poster?
6) Is there a list of posters the webmasters talk aboiut?

1) Probably not- what would you try to use it for?

2) She's a mystery! :wizard:

Yes, I am.... errr we are ... errr

3) How many closed posts per day? Hmmm... I'd guess we delete around 50 posts a day or so, and probably lock around 10 or so threads. Considering the number of forums and posters here, that doesn't seem like a whole lot.

4) A lot of people seem to think that getting a high post count quickly is important, I don't really get why. Those who do rack up the posts often do it by posting quick nonsense on the Games or Happy Birthday threads. I think that those who contribute thoughtful and interesting posts are a lot more fun than those who have a lot of one word posts or who just "bump" other threads a lot without adding anything real.

5) There are a lot of posters who make me smile or make me think, and those are my favorites.

6) There's not a list of posters we talk about. We do talk about the best way to handle problems when we have posters who have a lot of posts reported or who seem to be stirring up a lot of controversy.

:)

I have a question..........if you are the moderator supporters, are you like their suspenders then?

Are webmasters allowed favorites? Can I be one?

I am not sure why people need a member list, but there is a backdoor way to find a member's name if you have an idea of the first few letters. Go to send a PM and start typeing the first few letters of the name in. A drop down list will come up with lists of posters who names are close to what you are spelling. Then you can find who you need. I do this often when I can't quite remember how to spell or find someone that I know is a member.

What you do with that information is your own responsiblity--but with California Gold a lot of the stalking abilities have come back! :teeth:

How did you become a webmaster?

When will WPASADI begin again?

Why are closed threads forbidden to ever be mentioned again?

Why won't my husband pick up his dirty clothes and put them in the hamper?

I was invited after being a chat host and a moderator, I don't know about WPASADI.

When a thread goes south and turns ugly enough that a moderator has to close it, sometimes a poster wants to continue the argument by starting it up again. Then the arguments/name calling/whatever caused it thread to be closed just started all over again. We've had enough trouble with that over the years that we don't permit closed threads to be reopened. Sometimes, there are topics that cause so much arguing or are so off topic for a particular forum that the moderators just have to make a call that the topic won't be permitted on a given forum. The moderators of the Disney Resorts forum recently had to make this call regarding Smoking threads. They had thread after thread about smoking and smokers rights and arguments where non-smokers called smokers inconsiderate and rude, and smokers called non-smokers rude and intolerant, and it was disruptive to the entire forum. So smoking threads are now not permitted on the Resorts forum.

I can't help much with the husband thing. Make him do his own laundry.

It's not a skillet, but it's close:

1- can you limit the number of threads started about current events? (ie if someone dies, there is in teh neighborhood of 10+ threads about same subject)

2- Ever consider brining back the debate board?

3- Why is it a no-no to post links to some other website?

4- Why do I still show I have a PM when there is NOTHING there?

1- That does get a little distracting, but it's usually over pretty quickly. When someone dies, there'll be a flurry of threads from people trying to be the first to report it. After about two days, they stop. Sometimes we'll combine them into one thread, but they're not usually so troublesome that we need to do anything.

2- HECK no!!! :rotfl:

3- It's okay to post links to other websites, as long as it's not part of advertising or trying to make money from the folks here, and as long as the content there is clean and would be find if it were posted here. No links to dirty pictures or profanity, or to your personal eBay auctions. :)

4- You might have PMs in your inbox *and* in your sent folder. Right now, you have 10 in your inbox and 4 in your sent folder. And no, I can't read them or see who they're from/to. I can only see the total number in each box.
