We continue to say each time we are not coming back. I think over the years we have looked at real estate each visit. We bought a time share some years back/ a condo two years ago.

This time we looked at a house to relocate to. We have looked at Celebration/ Reunion/ Independence/ Bellelago/ etc. This time we looked out 535 in Windermere and really liked the Lakes of Windermere. Being from the North we liked the northern feel and look. Many new developements with a lot on the market it seems. It also seems like a lot of inverstors were in this market as well and cant get out fast enough while the market is correcting itself.

Anyway, can anyone give me any info about this community or surrounding area?

Schools?

We like the closeness to Disney but also just far enough away as well

Thanks

Gerry

First question is jobs?

Where do you plan on working? The job market for all but entry level or service type jobs is very tight down here.

Windemere is supposed to have good schools--FeralPeg's daughter attends Windemere schools, and I believe one of her motivations for moving to Windemere was the schools.

Celebration schools have gotten mixed reviews--and grades. Schools in the Osceola area and southern Orange county in general are not well regarded.

Schools in Seminole County are generally supposed to be good, and of course Boca Raton--three hours from WDW--has great schools.

But again, you need to make a living--that would be what I'd be looking into first.

Ducklite-

With all due respect, where DO you get your information from?????

Schools in Southern Orange county (which is referred to as unincorporated Orange County) like Hunters Creek are all "A" schools.

Schools located in West Orange county like Windermere schools are actually hit and miss. There was a time in the last few years where people had issues with Windermere Elem.
Olympia High School is struggling and locals here looking for property will know that you would much prefer West Orange High school verses Olympia even though Olympia is only a few years old.
We live off of 535 and one of the first questions we asked the realtor was "which high school?"

Google Orange County public schools and the information about each particular school can be found on the web site.

I should have said "west" Orange County, my directionally challenged mistake--I apologize. Yes, the Hunters Creek area schools are generally good--although Meadow Woods in that area only gets a "C".

West Orange is rated "C." Olympia is rated "B." Windemere Elementary is rated "A" and has been since 2002. In all honesty the FCat scores are not entirely indicative of what makes a good school, and some of the "A" rated schools are still not schools I'd ever send my child to, including Tildenville, Ocoee, and Maxey.

I agree that Meadow Woods is not a very good school but it is not in the Hunters Creek school boundries.
Windermere Elementary has improved in the last couple years but has had problems in the past.
Tildenville, Ocoee and Maxey are just schools that you must have picked at random as they are located several miles apart from each other.
Tildenville was completely torn down and is in the process of being rebuilt. The children that go to that school are currently being housed in the 9th grade center next to West Orange High and hopefully will be a higher rated school when the building is complete and the students return there. Tildenville is also located on the other side of Hwy 50 and not even close by to Ashton Woods.Ocoee would be another 10-12 miles further drive!

The OP asked about the area around Ashton Woods. None of the schools listed above with the exception of Olympia would be schools that posters children would even go to.

Lake County schools (Clermont) have their problems too. As I am sure you are aware.

Tossing out names of schools that are located here and there throughout Orange County that you would not send a child to, will do nothing but confuse someone that wants to ask about a particular subdivision where these schools are not even close by.

I was using them as examples of bad schools in the west Orange COunty area. I wasn't implying they were anywhere near Ashton Woods. Even if it's a brand new school, I still wouldn't want my kids going to Tildenville.

I wasn't implying it was anywhere near Ashton Woods, rather as an example of a school I wouldn't want my kids going to. It's actually about 7-8 miles from Ocoee.

Which is why I used common sense and stayed up north, allowing my son to graduate from a good school in NJ before we moved here.

I used those to make a point that just because a school is rated "A" it doesn't mean that you want your kids going there.
