Ashley Madison an auspicous day

According to the documents I read, he may have persuaded coworkers to give him their logins and passwords by claiming them they were needed for him to do his job as a computer systems administrator -- but he did not hack their computers.
If he did, there must not be sufficient evidence because hacking is not among the crimes the government charged him with.

Wow... were all his coworkers fired for being idiots?? Seriously even banks tell the public that they don't need to know the passwords ever and don't give them out... I know government contracts are the same (don't work for the government but because we have gov contracts we get to take the training anyway)

I just read online that they use a credit system. 1000 credits are $289. It costs 5 credits to send a message, 20-50 credits to send a virtual gift, 30 credits for a 30 minute IM session, etc.

Josh Duggar's account spent over $900.

What the heck is a virtual gift? Nevermind, I probably don't want to know.

I hear different details about this and my mind just keeps spinning with all sorts of questions. Obviously you would have to be a bottom feeder to come up with the idea for this business model, let alone actually open up the enterprise for business. If they in fact offered to delete customer records for a fee and did not do so, I wouldn't put it past them to have come up with the "hacking" scheme in the first place as a new revenue stream if new subscribers had begun to plateau. What about the fact that the offer to delete records was made after the hack -- wouldn't the hackers have already had the records in hand? What good would a record dump do at that point? If the hack was in fact a hoax to lure in hush money from existing customers, who's to say they didn't spend time before enacting the hoax to pepper their records with known names and addresses just for the heck of it? Someone mentioned that supposedly there is an account for Tony Blair under his official govt. account. I agree, that seems very likely. Not.

Just to play devil's advocate, when a police officer arrests a bank robber, their home address and credit card information is not displayed to the public. If the hacker's intentions were to just let the families know that their spouse was cheating on them, they could have withheld that information.

Also, you can use a fake e-mail address. I use fake e-mail addresses all the time when something asks for one. I don't want junk mail. And if I were to ever sign up for AM I definitely would not have used an e-mail a significant other would have known. Imagine if your name was Bob Smith. You know how many people probably sign up with bob.smith@gmail.com? A lot. So when Bob's wife goes on to this website that tells you if the e-mail was on AM, you can bet she's gonna think good old Bob was cheating away, even if he wasn't.

Otherwise, I am neutral on the subject, both parties were in the wrong.

Oh sorry should have clarified that I was only speaking to the outing a cheater part. Yes the financial data and addresses and things that could be used for identity theft is a bigger deal, one that I hope would have higher penalties then just providing a list of people that use a website.

You cannot have one without the other. One day all of your info may get exposed to what kind of cereal you buy to the medication to you entire bill at Disney and what you bought. You should have qualms about something that doesn't affect you because one day it may just do so!

If you think your husband fantasizes only about you, you are fooling yourself.

Right. It's all well and good until a hacker decides to put your personal information out there. It shouldn't be ok to morally police or thought police people on the internet.

The link is now shut down by AM, because it sounds like their parent company asked them too. This whole thing is getting strange.

Too bad, expose your loved ones to life threatening diseases get what you deserve. These people are not victims they are exposed liars, cheaters & thieves.

The hackers made their choice & will take the consequences at least they made an informed choice.
Is there a verification process users must go through to prove who they say they are? Or can users claim to be anyone?

There is no verification of names or emails.
Only in the case where the credit card info, address, and email match the name of the subscriber would I think they person is likely an actual member (as is the case with Josh Duggar)

There's at least one British MP who insists he never had an account, and it is my understanding that while his email was registered with the site, the cc/address did not match up.

Though with pre-paid VISAs I suppose people who were very concerned about privacy could have taken steps to prevent any actual info being shared with AM. (not that their failure to do so should be taken as blaming them for the crime)

Josh Duggar just 'fessed up. Jeez. I think dictionary.com should add his photo under the meaning "hypocrite".

For real? If so, wowza. My heart goes out to his wife and his kids -- this is a lot of garbage to heap on their heads. I don't like to see innocent bystanders hurt.

I agree. I doubt the kids no much but Anna has really been threw a lot.

For those who can't be bothered, here's the Duggar dude's statement:

"I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country, I was hiding my own personal failings.

As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose to our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.

I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.

Josh Duggar"

Here is the apologize

But their name is widely known, even among people who never watched the show. Granted, they may remain a bit sheltered because of homeschooling, but I wonder at what point in the future the kids are going to get smacked with the info in nasty ways. Would not be surprised for this to cause a breach that will keep them from the large Duggar family as well. No matter what I think of people and the way they think, it makes me feel sick to think of kids who had no part in something getting hurt.

Josh Duggar made a mistake a huge mistake. I hope for him and his family sake he gets the help he needs. I'm not sure if I was Anna I could stay with him. If she can she a better woman then I could ever be.
