Ashley Madison an auspicous day

According to the documents I read, he may have persuaded coworkers to give him their logins and passwords by claiming them they were needed for him to do his job as a computer systems administrator -- but he did not hack their computers.
If he did, there must not be sufficient evidence because hacking is not among the crimes the government charged him with.

Oh that is so much better, lying to your coworkers & accessing their emails accounts then stealing the info - much more ethical than hacking.:thumbsup2

Many outlets have actually reported that a good portion of the emails may have been used without the true owner knowing. Reports say AM did not require email verification.

Their is also a whole reddit board on how to convince your SO that your email was hacked & it wasn't really you. Butt covering at its highest. Heck one guy wanted them to all get together & hire an IT guy to create & post a fake AM list:faint: Yeah cheaters gonna cheat & lie & CYA

You seem bitter still - and considering how much pain you say you experienced - I am surprised you are wish that pain on others.

No I am not bitter & I wish that no one ever had that pain. However information is power & to say that people shouldn't know the reality of their own lives is terrible.

For someone to have such indignation, you seem to know an awful lot about AM. You are beginning to sound like Josh Duggar with your piousness and holier-than-thou condemnation.

Yeah I am Josh Duggar:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Yeah I know all about AM & I know about motorcycles & guns & pools & Jeeps because I educated myself about things that affect my life. I am very indignant with people who think that anyone on AM is a victim - poor poor pitiful them.

Throwing out platitudes does not make an argument any more realisitic

Makes you wonder how many are calling their credit card companies and telling them, their credit cards were used at AM-not because the cards were hacked. Wow, what a two way street, but I am sure a lot of guys are scrambling right now.

I made no comments on the ethics of his actions, merely that he did not commit the specific crime of hacking.

Though FWIW yes, when it is for the purposes of exposing government abuse and illegal action, I am much more forgiving and do think whistleblower status is warranted. Motive matters in our court system.

Yes, cheaters are awful and get what they deserve. I still think that the hackers are in their own unique and twisted way bad too. This is a no-win situation for everyone involved.

And I am sure the hackers knew that going in.

Ok so the crime of deception to obtain classified material are ok to you - this one is to me. The real victims now have the info to make an informed decision on their lives.

I'm pretty certain I did not say you were a fan. The person I replied to has multiple posts on their AM position.
If he was a victim of credit card fraud he can certainly swear out a complaint. So far, crickets.

Like I said, I'll wait and see how things shake out before I break out the tar and feathers. If I were in his shoes and I had in fact been set up in this I'd be doing my talking to a good attorney right about now, not attempting to clear my name publicly via the media at this point. Let's face it, complaints about credit card fraud begin with your credit card company, not an immediate visit to the police department. Silence right now seems the smart way to go in my book and isn't necessarily meaningful one way or the other at this point.

No protection - I was tested, he was tested, and we aren't doing this with anyone else. Sort of an "honor amongst thieves" agreement. I get that you may think us foolish, but we trust each other.
Never said I was happy it has come to this. 20 plus years of marriage and I did not foresee this happening. But it has.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one, to be quite honest -- I just found the comparisons to Snowden odd because they are pretty different scenarios IMHO and the charges are not the same so the situations are not analogous.

This hack does not exactly fall under the umbrella of whistleblowing, but it does uncover lies and deception. This is an ever-changing legal landscape and it brings up a lot of issues I haven't given enough serious thought to to have an opinion. This certainly does not feel as disgusting to me as the celeb nude pic leaks, for example, as that was just a violation of privacy with no greater premise being served. But it also wasn't technically hacking.

I'm not sure how I feel about this particular incident.

I have no qualm with the hackers exposing who is using the site, but I don't believe there was a need for financial information to an leaked as well.
Having registered with AM does not make one a cheater or one that will get an STD/HIV or AIDS!!! You have to actually physically be with someone to have cheated IMHO. If you do some research, you will find class action lawsuits that claim fake female profiles and up to 95% of the website are all men. Unless they are bi or gay, there has been very little CHEATING going on. This has been nothing more than the act of a terrorist group and I cannot understand how people do not condemn that!
To me, knowing my husband even signed up for a site and had that thoughts of cheating on me would make him just about as guilty in my eyes as if he actually did it. Cheating isn't just a physical thing.

I'm not sure how data dumps work, but they likely got all the info they could. My guess is they released the financial info because it does give the release more credibility.

I've only known a couple of people, personally, that dealt with CC fraud. Neither were silent about it. They were indignant and angry.
An attorney doing the work may make it easier. But goodness, how many billable hours does a client want to pay over filing some paperwork, making some phone calls and swearing out a complaint? Maybe personal choice, time will tell?

I hope his wife has good good support now and in the future. I continue to feel very badly for her.

I have no doubt that there is butt covering going on. I also have no doubt that if AM doesn't verify email that some emails were "borrowed"

I have a really hard time believing that Tony Blair signed up using his official government email address. Yes, it was reported that he was on the site with his official email.

I did not vote for Bill Clinton to be my moral advisor. I voted for him to be my president.
Why do we have to care who our politicians sleep with? As long as its between two consenting adults (or more I guess) I don't care.

Morally you may not care; however, he potentially put himself into a very compromising position which would in turn, compromise the office. So yeah, you should care who "your President" sleeps with. ;)

"Mr. President, thanks for the roll in the hay, now I want this bill passed or I'll tell the media...". You don't want anyone "owning" the office.

But could they use his credit card, with correct addresses in Arkansas and Maryland for the two accounts, for 2 years of recurring charges? It's almost certainly him. The bigger they are the harder they fall...

You cannot have one without the other. One day all of your info may get exposed to what kind of cereal you buy to the medication to you entire bill at Disney and what you bought. You should have qualms about something that doesn't affect you because one day it may just do so!

If you think your husband fantasizes only about you, you are fooling yourself.

Anybody heard any details of how this site did business, such as could you sign up with a yearly subscription or something like that, or was this a monthly charge type arrangement?

I just read online that they use a credit system. 1000 credits are $289. It costs 5 credits to send a message, 20-50 credits to send a virtual gift, 30 credits for a 30 minute IM session, etc.

Josh Duggar's account spent over $900.
