I recently found out the annual running of the brides was coming to Atlanta. I knew I wouldnt be able to be there when the doors open and clear the racks like one of my favorite episodes of friends but I hoped that when I arrived there would still be plenty of women there to fight over some dresses with.
I had never been to an event like this before and thought Hey if I dont find a dress at least I got to go into Buckhead and have a great dinner after pushing and shoving some girls to the ground. So I went out on a limb and invited my mom and grammy to come with me.
We didnt get there till about six due to Atlantas freakish traffic. We had 4.9 miles to turn off for the store and it took about 40 minutes with no car wreaks. Im so glad I dont live downtown
. couldnt handle that on a daily basis.
So if no one has ever been to anything like that before
like me! Then think of Filenes as a TJ Maxx or Ross type store. You have to comb through every single rack, through every single dress in order to find anything. The store is not set up in anyway
. Dresses are NOT sorted by color, size or style. My OCD kicked in right after I entered the door. I really CANNOT shop at Ross because they are the worlds worst at organizing their racks
. It drives me bananas.
Glad I had my mom there because I literally only picked up one dress
. Hahaha! She was up to her neck in dresses. I really dont know how she was carrying so many because those things are heavy, wish I would have taken her picture now because shes such a small, petite woman it was quite funny.
So I thought I would also add Ive never seen so many women in their bra and panties in my life! Everyone just striped down to their skives and tried on dresses. CRAZY! My biggest complaint about that store was they had no mirrors. Six or seven women were fighting over this tiny little mirror in the corner of the store. I think there were maybe three or four more but defiantly not enough for the amount of women that were there.
So the one dress that I picked out was an epic fail! My grammy picked up one dress and it was a success
. Loves it! This is what I envisioned myself wearing on my wedding day. Trumpet style gown with a train. WHITE!
I fell in love with three of my moms choices.
I really adored one it had a beautiful long train, lace and beads. The bottom of the dress looked like it had been dragged through the local Wal-Mart. It was terrible. I thought well maybe I can get past that and have it cleaned
but then I discovered several small holes in the lace. Crushed me
but I wasnt going to buy a dirty dress with holes
. So back to the rack it went.
Sorry no picture. =(
The next one was an off shade of white
I had really imagined myself in white because its the only time in your life when wearing a big white dress is okay. I was in love with this dress through. It had a little bit of jewels and LOTS of lace and a train.
The next dress was another white dress
. Beaded top and this organza ruffled flowy bottom. It was so lite and airy. It was a contender.
Now I was stuck
. Three beautiful dresses and I loved each of them. Well after trying each of them back on three or four more times I decided to put the ruffled dress back on the rack.
I could NOT decide between the lacey dress or my dream white dress. I loved how each looked
both so different. It was literally a tie. People were 50/50. Half of the people around me liked choice A and the other half liked choice B.
I walked with both dresses to the counter and just really wanted to buy both of them. Oh if I only could have! My dream dress needed a lot of work! Im so skinny it would need to be taken in. It had this awful netted top and I wanted some more beads. The lacey dress just needed to be taken in and that was it. The big moment came
it was my turn to pay! Which dress do I choose?
I ended up choosing my DREAM dress. It really was the toughest decision Ive had to make with my wedding so far. && guess what I only paid = $330. Wahoo. Both dress retailed for a little over $1200 each.
After all that trouble I think it was worth it! I got a great deal on a beautiful dress. MY dress and now I get to personalize it
no one will have a dress like me. (=
MORE pictures to come.
