Article on ECV use @ WDW for convenience

I have worked so hard to mend this knee the right way, I am going to take my Dr.'s advice and protect it.
If my recovery is good enough by the time we go and I get approval from my DR. I will gladly cancel my ECV and hoof all over the place. If not I will be one of the people getting sneered at for being "almost able". I have no malicious intent and have no plans of taking advantage of anything. I just want to enjoy Disney in a safe way.

I think you are exactly the person who should use an ECV without any guilt or blame.

I don't want to get into a fight, but...

There aren't very many ECV's at Disney World. There are a lot of disabled people who NEED one. If the able bodied people go and use them all, the disabled people won't have a very magical trip, now will they? If they know where to rent an ECV off-site, it will cost them a little bit more, probably, and it would be more of a hassle.

My mother has MS. She hates using an ECV/wheelchair, and only uses one when she needs it. If there are wheelchairs available, and a person to push her, she uses it, because wheelchairs take up less space. She looks very able-bodied, unless you see her walk. I'm worried that with all of these able-bodied people using ECV's simply for convenience, my mother will get turned away from getting an ECV, just because there is no obvious handicap. I hope we won't have to get a doctor's note just to go to the grocery store...

My mother doesn't like to use an ECV or a wheelchair. It's hard to maneuver, you get stares, and you feel singled out(my mother was kissed by Donald Duck repeatedly. She now despises Donald Duck. ) It's almost hard to believe that people would want to use an ECV. They should really be called EICV's!
