Ariel's New Look Debuts at Walt Disney World

Do they ever have Ariel in her blue and black dress from the "kiss the girl" part in the movie?

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

Unfortunately they have never had Ariel appear in her Kiss the Girl outfit, though I think it would be a wonderful idea, particularly when she randomly appears in Epcot. It is a well know dress to anyone who knows and loves the Little Mermaid.

Wow, she looks.............different.

Well it does look pretty twirling... My three year old didnt recognize ariel either but that was two weeks ago so I guess it wasn't this dress. It's just that she doesn't EVER wear this dess except at wdw I suppose. Though her older sis has the green kids dress from two heads ago which is one of the few nicely made ones they had (this years version of ariel looked junky like the rest ) so I thought she'd recognize it.

I've found the last two years most of the princesses - except this years two cinderellas we saw and tiana who is beautiful and fabulous - dont look like themselves. Very off. I guess Merida looks good. But the rest my heart falls a bit when I see them.

I'm not sure if they. Don't search for facial similarity anymore or what. They do have the cute new nose job Cinderella got down though from what I saw lol.

Oh and belles dress didnt offend me at all even enough to notice the difference. I'm going to have to check the pictures but I remembered she looked pretty- etwb looked like belle somewhat but Epcot belle- not so much. Plus Epcot belle had deep dimples and etwb had none. That is a noticable difference! Glad I only had the 3 y/o with me when we met Epcot belle!

geez and I complimented Ariel on her jewelry...don't see that anymore! :-(

We had breakfast at akershus Sat. at 8:00am, so of the first to see it. It was a lovely dress.

We commented on it directly when we saw it that it is a much higher quality dedign and build yhan her last one.

Its the kind of dress a princess would wear. I always.imagine that the princesses own more.clothes than you actually see tham wear during the movies.

Huh. I guess they're a bit similar in style, if not in color.
~Hi Brian! :wave2: Awww, I guess I may have been a little too harsh. I can't leap from commenting on the Vogue "September Issue" to a Disney Princess costume and that is *so* wrong. :rotfl: I really should have removed my "fashion goggles" before commenting. :(

~I noticed that all the princess dresses are two pieces (???) with skirts. I have nothing against Disney using separates in order to complete the princess gown look. I imagine it must be easier to adjust for sizing and holds up better under wear & tear -- probably more comfortable, too. Here is a fabulous combination of separates with fabrics that contrast, even the shoes contrast!

~Sorry for the tangent -- back to the mermaid! :rotfl:

~Based on the illustration, I expected to see a fabulous, dazzling beaded *gown* and a partial sheer overlay with adorning hints of embellishment draped around the hips extending to the floor. You can also see remnants of the sheer material across the top of the garment and of course the sleeves are comprised of that same sheer material -- one fabulous dress that incorporates two fabrics, a nice contrast of "subtle sophistication (soft material) & sparkly glam (hard material)."

~Placing color aside, these two materials in photo above are a good representation of what could be utilized to resemble the mermaid dress in the illustration. And, this is what I meant by *sparkly* gown contrasted with the sheer (even though it lacks embellishment) that can easily be added. Color aside, observe how the sheer drapes across the arm much like a sleeve and how it also drapes across a portion of the hips. It's quite easy to envision how the mermaid princess dress in the image can be closely replicated. But, again -- I totally understand this is not at all an appropriate measure nor is it practical. :lmao:

~It's wrong, wrong, wrong for a Disney Princess Dress that has to be worn for long hours and 365 days a year! So, under these circumstances I will retract my "poorly executed" comment and maintain that the dress is cute for what it is.
:wizard: :goodvibes

I always thought Ariel was green because of her fin. The biggest and most recognizable thing for Ariel was that ... well ... she's a mermaid. On land, I imagine they used the color to remind us that she was a mermaid :) That's how I always thought of it though.

I really don't like how the shell in the middle of the dress looks like a large silver blob. In the animated picture, it looks very shell-like and quite nice.
I agree with PP that compared, the animated picture has the sheer material over the solid material for the skirt. The main body looks as if it is a single piece of material with a little skirt over ... where the dress in reality is a 2 piece bodice. It really doesn't look like the picture.

That said, in the intagram photo, she looks dazzling! The dress really picks up the light :) Though, they should at least add some sort of shell or put the starfish back. It reminds us more that she is from the sea :)

So far ive liked the new dresses/costume for Aurora and Cinderella...im on the fence about Belle - its a beautiful dress dont get me wrong but I dont feel like its true to the movie... Now Ariel...poor Ariel...I feel like the new dress looks kind of cheap...Maybe it looks better in person but it just doesnt seem authentic...so far I prefer the old dress but I will reserve full judgement for February when I get to meet her again:goodvibes

The skirt is beautiful, especially when the light hits it and it throws sparkles everywhere. :)

Those sleeves are just awful. :scared: And what is that thing in the middle of her chest? :crazy2:

when you guys are mentioning belle's new look are you referring to the ETWB dress that not many people seem to like or did they change her somewhere else also?:confused3

I think ariels dress is pretty, the sleeves are a bit much, but I agree I think she needs some sort of something starfish etc in her hair & I don't think many girls would recognize her since it isn't a dress from her movie:sad2:

She definitely needs something in her hair... I would not have known it was Ariel.
