Ariel's New Look Debuts at Walt Disney World

I think the new one looks like a cheap Halloween costume version of the original. Having said that, my dd would love the new version if it was introduced when she was younger and loved Ariel.

I have not been fond of all the other changes in dresses and hairstyles but I love, love, love Ariel's new look.

That's pretty bad. I understand cutting the volume of the skirt to make it easier to move around, but the rest looks nothing like the character from the movie.

This has always been my issue with how they treat Ariel..in the parks, in merchandise, etc...I don't understand why they can't use any of her dresses from the movie.

~Ariel will always be one of my favorite Disney princesses, even though I expect Elsa to become my new favorite. Anyway, the Ariel "friend" is super gorgeous and I can see how the inspiration was to create the new style dress -- it's just so poorly executed. With these costumes it must be incredibly difficult if not impossible to replicate fabulous sheer and exquisite beading that can withstand the grueling humidity and long hours of daily wear and tear, so I can totally empathize with the challenges the seamstresses face in creating a dress that is both beautiful, functional and affordable.

~While I love the color, I don't care for those sleeves -- it appears as if she's wearing leggings or tights on her arms -- I much prefer the look of long elegant gloves with a shorter more subdued type sleeve. I admit to loving sparkles not too gaudy but just enough to dazzle, but I can't qualify this shiny stuff as *sparkles*, it just looks too cheap. :(

~In this photo Ariel's dress does not not appear to be that offensive and looks much better than the OP's unstaged pic. :goodvibes

The princesses new redesigned dresses are not going to be complete replicas of what we see in the movie...These looks are based off of the movies but will not be replicas!

What in the movie is this dress (or any of her green dresses) based on? She doesn't appear in green anywhere. The other princesses' dresses may have been altered slightly, but Belle's yellow gown and Cindy's blue gown are still recognizable as something similar to what they wore in their movies. The same can be said for pretty much every other princess, except Ariel. In her human form in the parks, she's never worn a dress even remotely similar to anything she wore in the movies.

Heck, even her purple dress from LM2 would be better.

My DD looked at her and said "Who is THAT?" I told her it was Ariel (her favorite princess) and she exclaimed "NO ITS NOT. Ariel doesn't wear a blue dress!" SO there you go...she looks nothing like Ariel to a five year old girl.

And I think its awful.

No. I don't like it. I think the old version was way classier. I don't like the new sleeves or the fabric I think it makes it look cheap.

If you have not noticed, on most merchandise now-a-days the princesses have complete different looks, these looks that have been present for over a year now.

I've actually saved a ton of money in the past year. DD has been Princess obsessed since she was 2. She always wanted whatever new thing they put out that had the Princesses on it. Ever since they "redesigned" the Princesses, she doesn't want any of the merchandise they have put out because she says it doesn't look anything like the real Princesses in the movies- and that is especially true with the Barbie sized dolls. The only change she remotely accepts or likes is Sleeping Beauty, who has never been her favorite anyway.

The first time she saw a picture of the WDW/DL changed Belle, she didn't even know who she was. When we saw her at DL this June, DD said that her dress and hair didn't look right and that the DL Belle was an "imposter" and the right one is at WDW (didn't have the heart to tell her she was changed there too). I will also say that the new Belle dress looks faded out and awful in pictures. It is too pale for good photos. The new Cinderella dress is okay but the wig is bad. The updated Sleeping Beauty is actually kind of nice and takes decent photos. I am not a fan at all of this new Ariel look. Like the Belle update, I think this Ariel update looks absolutely nothing like Ariel.

The only part of the new dress that's worse than the prior one is the sleeves. But I have never understood Ariel's ball gown look in the parks. I've never thought she looked "real." The hair has always been the wrong color, and she never wears a green dress!!! Also, maybe it's just been my luck, but the girl in the dress, while always very adorable, sweet, and beautiful, is obviously not a natural redhead, so the look is just "off." I dunno.... she's one of my favorite characters (obviously!) so I always get a little disappointed. They do a much better job with Cinderella, Belle, Aurora and Snow White. Actually, of all of them, I don't think I have ever seen a Snow White that didn't look PERFECT. I wish her movie weren't so scary, otherwise she'd probably be a favorite character in our house!

In my opinion, the skirt is way too flat, it's just blah, and the sleeves are eck. I understand that they are styled after her wedding dress in the end, but they're just too much. The bodice is nice, and the coloring isn't that bad, I also don't like that they took away the hair piece.

This is the worst of the redesigns IMO, it looks nothing like Ariel at all, and it just looks like a cheap costume. I've seen fan made cosplays that look a world of better than this, and it was based off the same dress in the merchandise. I find the other redesigns to be great, but not this one...

Yuck. Another one bites the dust.

I actually love the skirt. Very flowy and sparkly. :thumbsup2

I suspended my disbelief some time ago and just accepted the green. I'm sure it's because Aurora is in pink and they don't want to confuse anyone. And Aurora can't wear blue because Cindy's in blue and they don't want to confuse anyone.

Anyway......... that bodice and those sleeves? :scared:

It looks like someone in the costume department has a thing about skintight sheer sleeves. The similar sleeves on Aurora's new gown are what I dislike most about that gown. Yuck. Double yuck.

I love the dress!!! It is sooo sparkly, especially when she twirls. Yes, I would like to see the starfish in her hair and yes the sleeves are a bit too poofy but I think the rest of the dress is one of the best redesigns.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I did notice in the parks today that the girls dress up Ariel gown (BBB etc) are now the new version of the dress. It is off the shoulder with the poofy long sleeves but does have elastic spaghetti straps.

Well, it's not the best of all the new looks. The bodice is a bit metallic-looking, and the gloves/lower sleeves kind of look like she's got tights on her arms.

And the petal cut at the bottom of the old bodice, suggesting a water lily, was a lovely nod to Ariel's aquatic origins.

What's more, I think the old dress was a bit more flattering to the "friends'" figures.

I guess they can't all be winners.

I'm in the minority that actually likes Belle's new look, but this one . . . what is up with her sleeves?

Uh, yeah. Not understanding this at all. :confused3 What kind of outfit is this supposed to be? It looks nothing like any of the dresses Ariel wears in the movie. Pretty soon they are just going to slap a red wig on a pretty girl and call it a day. :(

This. ^
Just awful. :crazy2:

Do they ever have Ariel in her blue and black dress from the "kiss the girl" part in the movie?
