My feet are DRIVING ME CRAZY!

A few years ago, I started getting hives for no reason that we've been able to determine. Every once in a while, they flare up again, usually on my hands and/or feet.

Right now, it's my feet, and they're ITCHING LIKE CRAZY!! And burning. And aching. And I can't sleep because of it.

Any magic anti-itch remedies?? I've tried about 2 dozen different types of lotions, salt scrubs, sugar scrubs, water scrubs, soaking in different things, socks, no socks, holding the feet up, benedryl and other anti-itch creams.... nothing helps!

did you try powder ??
I use to get a rash under my armpits from shaving and someone told me to use powder.. it worked for me..

:rotfl2:

talcum powder or gold bond anti itch powder

just spinkle some on and rub it in a little

Hmm, that's one I haven't tried. And don't have any at the house right now.

*looks around for some chalk*

Wait, that's talC, not talCUM...

Have you tried an allergy med yet? I have chronic urticaria(hives) and the only thing that keeps me from going insane is Allegra. Topical stuff doens't begin to help. Benedryl capsules will take care of it, but leaves me in a state of ... :faint: You probably need something systemic that will control symptoms for hours.

Incidentally, you may or may not be allergic to something. Often when you have hives chronically your immune system is just out of kilter and reacting to normal stuff. Allergy testing often does not reveal anything unusual. So you just treat symptoms and eventually it goes away. i had it for 3 years and it went away as mysteriously as it came. After having a serious reaction to a drug this summer, my "old friend" is back now, so Allegra it is.

I've tried about 8 different allergy meds. And for some reason, they just seem to make it worse.

maybe you are allergic to allergy medication :confused3

I've said the same thing, but the allergy doctor (3rd one) just rolls his eyes and says that's not possible. *shrug*

I wish there were a 24 hour walgreens nearby.

Maybe some baking powder/soda will help...

my x bf is allergic to benedryll (sp) and poison ivy

baking soda may work if not try the flour :flower:

good luck

DD gets Hives on her feet all the time
and only sometimes will the benedryl help

have you tried and oatmeal bath like aveeno
that helps her a little

hope they feel better soon

Yup, tried the oatmeal with no luck.

Finally, a combo of baking soda and a very thick jelly-type moisturizer (Some Eucerin / Aqua-something brand thing) took care of it enough that I was able to sleep. I'd tried baking soda mixed with water and made into a paste, but not just baking soda in its powder form.

Can someone explain the science of why a powder would help stop itching? Is the itching perhaps caused by an acidic something (sweat, etc) and baking soda (being an antacid) would cut down the acidity??

Mum used to pop a paste of meat tenderizer and water, on bug bites and stings and the like, I got as a lad. Perhaps something like that might help?

Tammi, it sounds to me like you have a chemical sensitivity. Some folks get pretty toxic to our environment these days and just need to get away from the toxins. That could be external or internal, and meds can actually cause it as well as foods that are not organic. The reason you get "occational" flare ups is that it is a build up situation.

I don't know what's causing your problems, but I used to have a rash on my hands and feet and it's almost totally gone thank goodness, but they gave me a shot of something to kill the itching. It helped so much.

Dianne -- that's as good a theory as anything else. :confused3 Think DH would buy that I'm allergic to Houston and need to move to Colorado? ;)

Serena -- For some reason, none of the doctors I've been to would entertain a shot. :confused3

Maybe try a foot cream with mint in it. Doctor Scholl's makes a good one. Sorry I don't know the name, I'm not at home. It maybe that you are drying them out???

Tried it. It helps a bit, but not for long. I got one from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Gold Bond makes an excellent spray for the itching

I use it when my flare ups get beyond the zyrtec I already take.

My hives are a result of contact allergies-I am allergic to cats but only flare up if I touch the cat or her dander (it sticks whereever the animal frequents.)

If I go outside with barefeet and fail to clean them that night I wake up with the hives.

Have you been tested for specific allergies?

My doctor also tested my thyroid and hormone levels, she says those two things being off kilter could also cause hives.
