I am planning a quickie trip to the World from October 8 through the 13th (Columbus Day). This is a spur of the moment thing so needless to say, I have been scrambling! I checked airfare yesterday and found a flight on Delta for $201 RT - not a great rate, but doable with flight times that weren't horrible.

Well, needless to say, I didn't purchase the airfare yesterday. Soooo, today I check and the same flights are now $279 RT :( with the return flight being nearly sold out, I am not hopeful that the price will come down at all. I can get the $201 RT if we wanted to fly back at 6:00 am on Monday... hmmm, not too excited about that.

So, should I wait and hope that rates come down or bite the bullet and pay $279 RT. :( I would hate to wait only to have to pay $279 RT AND get crummy flight times. This can be sooooo frustrating ;)

As I have read that prices normally go up on Friday's (more people buying over the weekend) and sometimes go down on Monday... but I'm not 100% sure.

Unless you have to be in work on 10/14 and with a difference in price of $78 per person for the airfare, why not stay until Tuesday morning, get an inexpensive hotel near the airport with shuttle service and enjoy one more day in Orlando?

I checked for our trip (to be in Jan) on Tues or Wed and flights from Kansas City were almost $300. Checked again Thurs and they were down to $168 and non-stop, and I had seen this rate a couple weeks before. These were all on Southwest's web site: iflyswa.com. Their rates were all comparable to checking with Expedia and Orbitz plus for us non-stop. So, if Southwest is an option for you, you migh give them a try.

I can sympathize with you... that happened to us earlier this year for our April trip

We got lucky this time around for our trip in November... I booked early and got round trip from NJ to Orlando for $176 (tax included)... I checked the fares yesterday and found that the flight went up to $460 round trip :p

I guess once in awhile the little guy wins one....:bounce:

:) :) :)

Ok, I wasn't planning on staying through Tuesday since DD needs to be back in school, but, to my surprise, DH agreed to let her miss school that day (You can't believe how shocked and amazed I am about this) soooooo, not only am I saving $300 bucks on the airfare, but the kids and I get an extra night in WDW.... can't beat that :) :) :)

You could always try Hotwire or Priceline..with Hotwire at least you know the price upfront..

Dagny -

My heart sank when I read your subject... OH! NO! (I thought) Don't tell me DFW to MCO dropped below $200!!! Don't get me wrong, I would be THRILLED for you... ;)
BUT after months of watching the airfares climb... we reluctantly jumped on $211 roundtrip for NS flights on American. Not really bad, I suppose.. but I know all of us DFW to MCO travelers were getting used to airfares around $150. Last year we paid $111 and the year before $129... so paying more than $200 was hard to do. I feel your pain! But enjoy your 'extra' day at the World!

Now if only I can get our car rental for 10 days to drop below $200!

I made that same mistake a couple of months ago! I found great flights at great rates but wanted to talk to dh on what time he wanted to fly out, I went to purchase them the next day and bamm, $57 higher each ticket (times that by 6 in our party) So we opted for the extra night it was half the price and double the fun! :Pinkbounc

I would keep trying they seem to be going up and down all the time.

Let me know if you get it! I'm in the same boat.

Dagny- i'm going the same time as you (a few days earlier) but the same thing happened to me. One day flight on SWA was $121RT- next day sold out. So I did the very same thing yu did and we fly out on the 14th also.- Don't forget your Lime green ribbon & maybe I'll see you down there. Happy Trip! :teeth:

We are trying to find some decent rates from Hou to Mco but so far not much luck. SWA rates are still kind of high. Earlier, couple of months back, I could have snagged Delta for $127 round trip but it was not direct, instead of taking 2 tyo 2.5 hours it was going to take 5 to 6 hours. With 2 little ones I just couldnt bring myself to spend that much time traveling. So I guess pretty soon Im just going to have to bite the bullet and get the more expensive fares :( . If we were going in Sept I could have gotten some great rates.

I finally bit the bullet and shelled out $325.00 for airfare from Los Angeles to MCO. I could have gotten it for about $270.00 but they had us traveling from anywhere between 7 and 9 hours. Now I have two non-stop flights, one coming and one going. Much easier when traveling with a child.:Pinkbounc

Just wanted to add my thanks to everyone.... I nearly did it again with the 14th travel dates - geeshh!!!!

I went to aa.com and found airfare for $201 per person RT - good travel times and all. I went back to purchase it from aa.com and it was up to $240 RT - I thought OMG, not again!!! Luckily, I was able to get the same flights on travelocity for $201. I did end up paying $206 with travelocity's $5.00 fee, but at that point, I just didn't mind paying the extra $15 bucks, LOL.

Soooo, if anyone will be there October 8 - October 14th, look for me :) Doing our first ever MNSSHP on the 10th - woo hoo :) :)
