I have my dream job...in fact, when I was interviewing I told very few people that I was interviewing because it seemed too good to be really coming true.

I teach at a college in an academic discipline that I live. I get to work with college students talking/reading/research about topics about which I am passionate. I get to influence the leaders of tomorrow (today's college students) and my field (education) also allows me to work with young children.

I love the people in my department and the campus where I work is beautiful.

The position allows me to travel to places I might not normally go for conferences (Australia, Germany, Hawaii, etc), gives me flexibility in my schedule (when I'm not in front of a class), and lots of vacation time (sort of--I mean there is always reading/work to take with me--but I have lots of time when class is not in session when I can be flexible in my schedule).

my Ph.D. I want to be a clinical neuropsychologist, dealing with developmental disabilities.

:worship: Can you please please please become a pediatric neuropsych specializing in Epilepsy? Sorry, just so tired of taking ds to 3 different doctors who treat him as having 3 unrelated problems. :sad2:
But, thanks for what you are doing. It means the world. :goodvibes

I'm a SAHM and yes, I am passionate about my job!

Those business owners may not work nights or weekends now...but I'm sure down the line when they were first starting up, before they had hundreds of employees to help them out, they were putting in quite a few hours.

I'm a business owner. It isn't as cut and dry as you make it seem.

And no, I don't love my job. This is my husbands passion, not mine. But I love him, therefore I do what I have to do. Because he can't do it alone.

Nope sorry. None of them have worked nights or weekends. EVER. I'm not a moron. I'm not saying its that way for everyone, but they are my family who I have known my entire life and I know that none of them have ever worked nights or weekends for their business. it's all about what kind of business you're running.

You tried out for American Idol 5 times?

Yes. It gets old after a while. I only tried in the "major cities twice though. The rest were the local competitions where if you win, you get a free pass to Randy Paula and Simon at a nearby Large city. It was fun but its very hard and time consuming. Its fun though cause you'd see some of the same people from location to location. LOTS of amazing singers don't make it through and its really sad to see.

I love my job with a passion(firefighting). I've always wanted to be one ever since I was a little boy. I don't even have to set my clock in the mornin to wake me up.

First off let me say that YES, I am passionate about my job. It is the job I have dreamed of since I was old enough to know what a job was. I own my own business and am a full-time professional horse trainer and riding instructor. My DH and I own our horse farm (21 stalls) and I teach 6 days per week and take my students to shows on the 7th. My job is 24 hours a day 7 days a week (with a few hours off here or there)

As for what I quoted above, I would hazard a gues that quite a bit of work is done after hours and on weekends by your small business owner relatives, be it bookkeeping, maintenance etc. Of course it isn't all the time, but it happens. Add in those sleepless nights wonderin if "the business will survive anonther day" or "how to pay a vendor" and it's a 24/7 gig.

In the entertainment industry, you better believe singers are putting in long hours late at night and on weekends at the studio, on tours, at shows, promo events etc. But when you are passionate about your work...TRULY passionate about it, you put in those hours HAPPILY. That's the key to your success Angelhalo. What job would you be willing to work nights and weekends for? THAT is the job for you!

I had a good career for 15 years, then I had my dream job for 3 short years -- both of them I had to give it up due to family obligations. For the last 10 years, I've had soul-eating, deadly jobs way below my qualifications, am bored to death. Every day I sit in my car in the parking lot trying to think of reasons why I can't go in, every day I wake up and hope it's Saturday.

What is more distressing to me is that I see no way out. I tried a few years ago very hard to get back into my field or change fields but encountered rampant age discrimination (at age 43). I get depressed thinking I have twenty years of this (because I need to earn more money for my pension due to giving up my higher-paying career) and I wonder if I'll have any soul left by the time I retire.

If I had known then what I now know, I would have gone for a career that makes a ton of money, saved it, and made plans to retire early and THEN pursued my interests probably thru volunteering.

I retire in 2 years 10 months - so I'm definitely no longer passionate about it - it pays the bills.

I like what I do (engineering), it's definitely my calling. It's an interesting, ever changing career that provides a good living. Would I rather be independently wealthy and retired? Heck yeah. :goodvibes

Hi Gang,

Yep, very. I'm a very proud member of the New York City Fire Dept for the last 11 years. Even after 11 years, i still love and enjoy what i do.

My hat's off to you, thank you for your service to the people of NYC. :thumbsup2

I have liked all of my jobs OK. Were they my "dream job" no. I loved when I worked with DH in a small internet company. We got to commute together and go to lunch together every day. The owner ran it into the ground though. Too bad. Travel agent was great but stressful sometimes (commission.) Pet sitter was great fun and fulfilling until we ran into several crazy cheap clients in a row ("will you drop in just twice a week"-wth?) I guess when times get tough people try to save money. Sorry-not jeperdising an animals health because you do not want to pay for a visit every day.

Anyway what would my dream job be? Raising service dogs. Travel photographer. FX artist. Artist/house designer for Halloween Horror Nights. Imagineer in the past before it was all contract based. Horticulture or animal care at Animal Kingdom (not long term-more to learn.) Since I am looking for a job now I will see where I land. :joker:

Have my own business which luckily allows me the free time to actually enjoy myself. On average I work about 4-5 months a year, and that is on average about 3-5 hours a day during that time. About a few hours a week throughout the year are necessary as well, but nothing major.

I really never thought of what I do now as a job. When I worked as a scientist/project manager (last year) I did think of it as just a job that paid the bills. I don't think I could ever go back.

I love subbing and have been doing this for 26 years. However, I am looking forward to retiring in a year or two. I love subbing in grades 5-8 the best. :)

Not the job of my dreams , but it pays the bills for now.

First of all, that's quite an uncalled for, snarky response. I never called you nor implied that you're a moron. If you're looking for a fight, I'd suggest you take it somewhere else.

Also, I'd love to know what type of business all of your relatives are in. I might just have to have a career change since I've now learned that you can own a business and never, "EVER" have to put in more than 9-5, M-F.

Kudos to you and your business, and for having a job you're so passionate about.

I have to say that I love my job becz' even though I was going to just be a stay-home and take care of the kids and do house chores...I need something else to entertain myself....that something would be to work in the travel business.

My friends tell me that I don't just work in the travel biz, "YOU LIVE IT!!". Especially working from home....I don't "office" hours and home hours...it just blends in very well around my schedule.

Who doesn't like to travel right ? I'm able to do lots of traveling for business trip and go on cruises for training. We call at " Seminar at Sea ".

I was doing this free anyways, offering free advise and travel tips so I thought I might as well open and run own small business travel agency. No, I don't to worry about the big boys of travelocity or expedia becuase I can always do better and deliver better customer service to my clients. Remember....I choose to work from home, which makes me very HAPPY to be talking to anyone that calls me. I don't just punch in and punch out on the time clock. I live with work and my work lives with ME! That's as close as it gets to my heart!!

It's helps knowing that I don't have to depend on my income to live on, thank goodness to my hard working, loving husband's who works in the military to support us and takes care of us.

I'm lucky to have my dream job everyday and any day that I want to work. Since I do this out of the love and passion for travel, it doesn't feel like working....How nice it is just to help folks plan their dream vacation daily!! Family reunion, Honeymoon trips, summer vacations....all the special moments and happy times for people. It really makes me feel good about what I do!

That's all folks! Thanks for reading! :beach:

people think that because we work in a breast imaging center that we must be really 'special' people. Honestly, I do care about my patients and give them 100% of me when Im there. But its my JOB , not my LIFE. I dont have the pink ribbons on my car or anywhere else. I dont volunteer at health fairs. It pays very well for a fairly easy job.

I'm passionate about quitting time each day. My job is grueling and has become really unpleasant but you do what you have to.
