I'm a secretary, and I am in no way passionate about my work, its a job, it pays the bills. I don't hate going in, the people are nice, and at times, the work is fulfilling, but I would never call it my "dream job." Now if I were a tennis coach, or singer or something like that, I could say that I'm truely passionate about my work.

Anyone out there doing their dream job - something that they really enjoy going to each and every day? What do you do?

I am a medical secretary (receptionist , registration) in an Internal medicine and family pactice. I love my job!

It's not my dream job (a famous singer would cover that lol). It can be very stressful at times, but I love it!
I am home sick today. I picked up the cold that everyone seems to have. I do feel a bit gross today.

I chose "other". I love going to work everyday, but I can't say this is my ultimate dream job. I am a special ed paraprofessional working in a first grade classroom. My background and education is in marketing and management so this is quite different for me.

I have to say I love first grade, and I love the kids (for the most part!) It is a fun way to spend the day and make a few bucks. :)

Right now I am in between jobs and it is so frustrating because I'm not really qualified for anything that I love to do and don't want to go back to school, and don't have money to start my own business. I love to sing, cook, decorate the house. I have a minor in foods and nutrition but didn't and still don't want to be a chef because I HATE the hours they keep. I like to decorate the house but I have no formal training and don't know if I could do it for anyone else. I am a singer and have been for years. tried out for American Idol 5 times because everyone I know says I could win it. I know I can sing, I'm not one of those weirdos who just thinks they can sing. But, having a lucrative career in singing is all about knowing the right people and being in the right place, and I am neither.

The only thing I am qualified to do is be a secretary, receptionist, administrative assistant. Or be an Activity director. I have a degree in Recreation management and can plan activities but I don't want to work evenings or weekends so it's not the job for me. And while I can handle office assistant tasks, I am by no means passionate about them. So I am kind of at a loss right now.

Since I have been out of work for a while and no one is hiring, I am starting a cake decorating class tonight. Maybe I'll like it and be able to parlay it into some sort of side business or something?

Yes, I am passionate about my work. I teach preschool and working around children is such a blessing. However, I wouldn't say I jump for joy about getting up for work, lol! It is still a job. Still, I have never NOT wanted to go to work, and having worked in advertising for 9 miserable years, this really is a dream job to me.

I love my job! Is it an importannt job - no! A dream job would be doing something that helps others, but I have no qualifications for that, other than for volunteering. I currently work in retail management for Yankee Candle. It's stressful - especially in this down ecomony - customers think they can get everything for nothing & aren't afraid to get in my face about it - but at the end of the day, It's Just Wax!! That's my motto. I work with a GREAT team of managers & associates, that's a huge help. It's long hours & little pay - but I still love it!

I worked for 13 years for a big company & hated every minute of it. After being there for so many years I felt stuck - great pay & benefits that I didn't want to give up. But I often cried on a Sunday knowing I had 40 hours ahead of me that I hated every part of. At that point being a SAHM was my dream job. So I tried that - I was a SAHM for 8 years - and I didn't feel fulfilled doing that either. Once both kids were in school all day I was bored out of my mind. That's when I applied for seasonal part-time work at Yankee. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I'm now just a part time assistant manager, but I just love it. Some days I feel more appreciated at work then I do here at home!

Hi Gang,

Yep, very. I'm a very proud member of the New York City Fire Dept for the last 11 years. Even after 11 years, i still love and enjoy what i do.

Its funny because I was asked this same question last night.

My job is not my passion but it allows me to fund my passion. Travel.

My job used to be my passion, but the corporate BS involved pretty much ruined the things I liked about it. It now is just a way to pay the bills.

I hate it with a passion :crazy2:

Owning a business or professional singing are not for someone who doesn't want to worka lot of hours, including nights and weekends.

I disagree. I come a from a long line of business owners who do not work nights or weekends. It all depends on what kind of business you are running.

As for the singing, I wouldn't want to be a singer unless it was like famous Grammy winning concert touring type of singing, which of course would require it to become your entire life, but that is what I LOVE so I'd be willing to make that kind of lifestyle if it meant I was doing what I loved. It's pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain, that being that kind of singer would require nights/weekends, etc.

Those business owners may not work nights or weekends now...but I'm sure down the line when they were first starting up, before they had hundreds of employees to help them out, they were putting in quite a few hours.

I'm a business owner. It isn't as cut and dry as you make it seem.

And no, I don't love my job. This is my husbands passion, not mine. But I love him, therefore I do what I have to do. Because he can't do it alone.

I'm passionate about being on time, doing things properly, getting on with my coworkers, etc, but the work itself is mundane, contradictory, and tedious. But it is secure government/defence work and I wouldn't venture out into the private sector if they doubled my salary.

However, for fulfillment I look to private hobbies and personal growth.

I don't have a job but I do tons of volunteer work with marine mammals and I am passionate about my work. I look forward to going and love when I am there. I am working to make my volunteer work eventually turn into paid work!

I really like my job, but mainly because I love the company and the people with whom I work and, frankly, I love being employed. The work itself is OK but it involves a lot of analysis and staring at spreadsheets all day long and unfortunately they're only getting bigger with each passing day. I should be staring at them right now but good LORD, did my eyes need a break!

ETA: And as of today, I love the company a whole lot more because they just announced that we can start wearing jeans to work every day now, not just Fridays. WOO HOO!

Yes, I love my job and it's my passion. I don't kiss the office floor everytime I walk in, and usually enjoy my days off, but there is nothing else I'd rather do.

I'm an RN and yes I'm passionate about my work-when I'm at work. But, I don't love it. I like to moan and groan to my husband every chance I get.

You tried out for American Idol 5 times?

I love going to work, but it is not my dream job.

I work with special needs people, one-one-one. They are all amazing people, I enjoy my time with them.

My dream job will come after I get my Ph.D. I want to be a clinical neuropsychologist, dealing with developmental disabilities. My job now is as close as I can get until then, but it's wonderful.
