Are You Cancelling Buffets?

EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION. That doesn't mean you have to respect it. But to stoop to telling people to FU and to say "whatever" and to criticize others because of what their children eat is absolutely wrong.

I don't remember anyone saying FU to anyone else?? I said to a poster that "whatever" meant that (at least the slang version)......I don't think anyone on here would say that outright.....at least I hope not! :)

What is annoying on this board is the utter disrespect and negativity that civilized people have for each other. I can't believe that a conversation about children's eating habits has turned some of you into name calling, slamming people! You should be ashamed.

I don't care if some of you wish to reply and attack me. I am a teacher and the first thing I tell my students is they will respect EVERYONE and their opinions. It sure is easy to tell where some kids get their attitude from. It is the way society thinks it is okay to treat others like crap because of something they said or did.

When I saw the "smart mouth" remark and the "FU" reference I nearly fell out of my chair.. :earseek: Thought sure that this thread would be locked by this morning.. :confused3

I think you need to go back and reread the posts. I said Whatever because I felt Lilygator's lecturing was uncalled for as weren't talking about kids eating junkfood. That is MY opinion. EVERYONE HAS ONE is what you said so that means me too! Lilygator came back and explained that "whatever" had a different meaning in teen slang. She NEVER said it in the way you are trying to say she did. There was NO namecalling on anyone's part here.

I agree. No one called anyone a name. You were simply explaining to me what Whatever meant in teen slang. Something I had never heard of.

sorry for saying smart mouth - I didn't mean it as mean as it came across if that makes sense....

and "whatever" in teen slang speech means FU...

so then what does this mean??? Am I showing my age. When I was growing up this meant the nastiest thing possible.

I posted because the tones of the posts and then way they could be read came across to me as rude.

Maybe I misread them, but I was amazed that people would be acting like that....

So fill me in, what does that quote at the top from one of the posters really mean???!!!

it was an explanation of what I have heard that the term "whatever" (a common phrase) means....

ugh! (hanging head in shame...) guess I better brush up on my slang. I totally thought that was the other term!!!

my bad people! I just REALLY thought you were telling each other off. SO, as I said, each of us has an opinion. I think both of you have really valid points.

BTW~did anyone consider doing ONE buffet character breakfast. Those are cheaper and just as fun. It would get everyone the dose of food and fun. And if the kids don't eat, it would only be $16 plus tax and tip.

Again~sorry! :confused3 :guilty:

ROFL! That's okay. I didn't know it meant that either. I am old, 43, and whatever just means who cares. I never heard of the slang term as my kids don't say the word whatever.

actually DH is the one who told me...he is a retail manager and has lots of teens working for him and I guess he learns quite a bit on those evenings.....:)

That would probably be the best way of handling the situation.. Find out which characters your children are the most fond of and book that particular Character Breakfast.. :flower:

However, if you're still unhappy with these changes, be sure to email Disney and let them know.. It probably won't change anything, but I would hope that they at least "look" at what their guests are saying..

:grouphug: I am gladto see things coming back around to seem nicer. I had two buffets setup and my Godson is only 9 atthe time.If we turned 10,I believe that I would still keep both of them. I want them experience one Character meal and from what I keep reading, Boma's is a must do! I am of the same thought pattern as many. 10 is too young for the adult price. BUt that is just my opinion.

I have to say I was getting Really worried about this thread and almost did not post. I did not want to get involved with how you should raise your child. This is not the time and place for that. I am just glad things seem to come back around.

KEEP SMILING EVERYONE. IT'S A DISNEY VACATION. There are a lot of people out there who never get the opportunities that we have and will never see Disney. We are all blessed.

Hugs
Melissa

I do not know if anyone else has posted this, but I am wondering something here. I am wondering if Disney is thinking that if they raise the cost of their child's buffet prices this will force people to rethink the MYW dining - This would also kinda force us into getting the dining plan and pay the rack rates

Think of it like this. People who are just getting into vacationing at Disney will see that the cost for the "all you can eat" are running just as high as it would to feed them for $35 a day for two meals.

Right now the MYW dining for kids is around $10. That is pretty cheap.
I just got back, and I can tell you that Chef Mickey's was Packed! I was told by the waitress that most of the people were under the package plan as well.
I think Disney is maybe starting to get people to see them as an all-inclusive resort like Club Med.

What do you think?

I just got off the phone with Disney Dining and was assured that as long as I have my resefvations set prior to July 1st, my DD age 11 will still be considered a child. I asked if she was sure and she said YES! She said if I was to call and alter the reservation after July 1 I would be subject to the new rules! Let's hope she's got it right! Either way.. we've got just 9 days to go and our reservations are set! Yee Hah let the vacation begin! :cool1:

My TA said something like she thinks Disney is trying to get to be an all-inclusive resort. Just her opinion. But maybe you both are on to something.

First, I don't buy that at all. Oscar's at the WORLD FAMOUS Waldorf Astoria serves a buffet with a price tag of $50 for adults, so I highly doubt that a Golden Corral-type establishment in the city commands that great a price, especially for children. Second, the cost of living in New York is higher than in other places. Hence, a garbage man in New York gets paid twice as much there as in other places, and thus, can afford a higher priced meal. It's not useful to anyone when people won't stay on topic. Finally, if prices had been this way when I visited last month, I certainly would not have visited the buffets. :sad2:

Yes it is useful and there are plenty of places more expensive than the Waldorf Astoria in the Manhattan area, plenty. And buffets can be higher any where in the country. The brunch buffet here in Naples at The Ritz Carlton is $68 per adult and $48 per child and higher on the holidays. Our friends wanted us to join them for the holiday buffet and it would cost me $300 for our family without cocktails and tip!

Somehow I doubt that Disney will go to being all-inclusive. This would make it so anyone local wouldn't come anywhere near Disney to eat and anyone not staying on site would be out of luck.
