i wasn't sure where to put this post, in my Kitchen thread or here, figured we could all use a little levity (as i sit here in my living room surrounded by fabric, ironing board, sewing machine, measuring tapes while I wait for the bread to finish rising)

I definitely need to wear one at home as I have been snacking more than I used to be. What a great idea! :thumbsup2

My neighbour works in a large regional hospital and she explained that some homemade cloth masks were donated by well-meaning volunteers but the hospital will not permit the workers to wear them or touch them. Even if they take them home for their own personal use for grocery shopping. If our Fed or Prov Govt mandates we must all wear a cloth mask, I will have to comply. However, I have many concerns about DIY masks including touching face when tugging at it and readjusting.

I am going to need lessons on how to cut your hair at home soon,,my son did offer his clippers...ahhhh NO!

LOL I'm attempting my quarantine haircut today. When I was a student years ago, didn't want to spend the cash on a haircut so would often take household kitchen scissors to my hair. I quickly learned to only trim the ends and not to overdo it. Very easy to cut off more than you want esp because its a slow, painstaking procedure and big cleanup after. Hard to juggle a mirror and cut the back of your head at the same time. Everyone's instinct is to cut more to make it count so you don't have to do it again for months. Nope. Just go slow, just trim the ends and don't be tempted to change up the look and give yourself a new 'do'. If anyone wants inspiration, just google 'quarantine haircut.' Scary. :scared1:

What about when you're standing in line outside the grocery store and there's a gentle breeze? Is 6 feet enough, with or without a mask?

well the mask isn't in place to protect you from other people. It's there to protect other people from you. Masks are keeping things IN not OUT. And even with a breeze, a cloth mask with at least two layers and a basic filter (coffee filter, paper towel, etc) is effective in keeping your germs and microdroplets from traveling too far when you breathe, cough or sneeze.

I realized I had a giant stash of cotton fabric from a failed attempt at quilting blankets for my boys LOL. I also had a mother lode of pipe cleaners from kids crafts when they were younger. so this week I'll be working on as many masks as I can churn out at night after the kids go to bed. I also have a bunch of non-woven polypropylene reusable grocery bags that I've sanitized and will cut in to reusable filters. Since this is all stuff I have on hand the masks will just be given away to anyone who wants them.

I am letting my hair grow. No one not even myself is touching my hair. Went out and got clips and hair bands. However, I trimmed hair for DH and DD. I am taking on more new roles under this pandemic crisis. The cleaning up part is scary though!

I’ve started making masks but haven’t worn one as I haven’t been into a store in a month. Made them so that if/when I do go in I will have a mask to wear.

Also...

A) It reminds me to not touch my face

B) the more socially acceptable they are the more those who may need them, will wear them

C) if it helps people keep their distance from me I’ll happily take that too!

DO NOT USE KITCHEN SCISSORS......use the smallest, sharpest pair you have.
Small scissors = small mistakes. Big scissors = big mistakes. If just trimming bangs use cuticle scissors. For easy clean up put a large bed sheet on the floor first or even better do the haircut outside or in the garage if the lighting is decent.

Ah haircuts... I do my son's most of the time, he always decides he wants it done at bedtime and if I say wait until tomorrow, he changes his mind. But my own is different, when it was long and straight I would do it myself, bangs were easy, trim the ends wasn't too bad though I often took off more than I had intended. Last time I went to the hairdresser and got a fancy cut, kind of shorter on one side and stuff, it looked so nice. I was going to go on March break, so a month ago, but of course couldn't. Now it's getting really annoying, and if I knew it would be two weeks or three weeks, I'd just wait, but when I think it's going to be two months more... well then I wonder if I should do it myself. I had been thinking of a really short pixie cut. Maybe I'll just use the clippers. I don't know any more... I've always liked to try different hair styles, colours, so it could work out? Maybe...

Ok
I did the home haircut yesterday......
first lesson ...line the bathroom sink with a small garbage bag
second lesson...if you wear glasses --put them on
third...cut in opposite direction to what you are seeing
fourth...ah well it will grow in.........
fifth lesson..get some barrettes from pharmacy next time and remember to tip my hairdresser VERY well next time I see her.

Thank goodness I am online working from home.
Hugs

Don’t forget to turn off your camera access when having virtual meet. I upload a picture of mine as profile picture so I don’t have to show my face. I have thick hair. I can stand the growth in length but the thickness is kind of unbearable!

sorry I can't figure out how to decrease the size of the pictures.
First picture is the back of the mask,,it has a pocket to insert a filtre,,which she suggested using dried unscented baby wipe.
Second picture is front of the mask.
My sister inlaw made them for me..

I also picked up a set of Yoga Dust Masks from of Amazon.

Hugs Mel
