So I have about 4 hours to make up my mind..ugh. I was reading the Unofficial Guide and it says to allow up to an hour for traveling from the campground to any park besides MK.:scared1: That's insane! I am thinking we should stay at POR..I don't want to allow an hour..omg. One of the parks was even 73 minutes..yikes. The absolute highest time at POR was 48 minutes.

We went there a ton as a kid, but I don't remember it being so bad, transportation-wise.

I don't know, still thinking . I would like that 500 sq foot at a cabin instead of the 314 at POR...hmmm..need to decide, FAST, before the free dining promo is gone, ugh!

I havent found the travel times to be all that bad, the longest times we ever had was at POR, had to wait 45+ min several times and then all the stops. We have stayed at FW for several years now and always use the buses..

I have never had that kind a of wait. But we usually don't use the internal bus system we use our bikes.

If you are in a hurry the busses seam to take forever but it's not that bad

We have never had it take that long. We use our golf cart to get around in the Fort so we don't use those busses.

Even though I buy the unofficial guide every couple years I don't believe all I read in it. The internal buses really seem to service the cabins well. Once you get to the Outpost there are buses running to each park pretty regularly.

I don't know about everyone elses experience I can only speak for myself but whenever we were there in April 2007 the campground was not overly packed and we still had OVER an hour wait to any park we took the bus to. Our longest wait was going to Epcot one morning, they stopped at WL to switch drivers we left our campsite at around 9:00 am and got dropped off at Epcot at 11:15...we drove from that point on.

I too have become very disillusioned with the Disney bus system but that comes from personal experience. Our trip in Oct. wasn't too bad but the busses were terrible in Jan. I know that they had just started the new routes the week we were there but it was AWFUL! :scared1: We have never driven but will definitely consider it for our trip this August!:thumbsup2

Good luck!

Years ago we used the buses. But now we just take our truck to the parks we find it faster, but we still allow 30 min.

When I camped at FW in 2003 it took exactly one hour from my campsite to the ticket turnstile of MK (using internal bus and then boat) we did it about 4 times roundtrip. It was horrible but still better than the car parking alternative at MK:furious: . All other parks we drove to.

Epcot I will admit is the exception for me especially if we're staying past closing time. I almost always drive there because of the bus going to WL 1st. We rarely stay til closing in a park so it's no big deal for me. When it comes to EMH I definately drive that night.

why is everyone is such a hurry. Just relax and enjoy the FT. so the buses might me a little slow at times. Remember we are on vacation while there. We just go with the flow and if we have to wait for awhile no big deal. Remember it is still better than going to work.

Just my 2 cents

Depending on the length of stay and the length of the list for things that want to be accomplished, I can understand why some would be a little or alot upset with the bus system.

I you have ever been in an ER waiting for a Dr., those minutes seem like hours. Some of our experiences with the bus system can be easily compared to waiting in the ER. We have experienced 1 hour trips.

I guess we were lucky. We went this past April and never had a problem with the buses. Epcot was the longest but i still don't think it took us an hour. There were alot of people waiting for Epcot so a CM called for an extra bus and it was there in no time.

Maybe unofficial guide should publish a section for we wanna haul azz at FW lol. Maybe when we go next week I'll put DD on the bus and I'll drive and park and see who makes it to the turnstile 1st. Of course you'd need to do this many times to get an average lol. To me parking at the parks is such a PITA. Even if it takes a little while lomger on the bus it's so worth sitting there not having to drive.

For us Disney transportation is another thrill ride to be experienced. You just never know what surprises are waiting for you. Could be a man on a runaway ecv, or the face of a young child seeing the entrance to Mk for the first time. Lets not forget the totally lost tourist at the bus stop who doesn't know how to get someplace. ( Ok, maybe my DH did tell him, you couldn't get to where he was going from here.:rolleyes1 ) The look on his face was priceless. Life is too short....you're on vacation....besides, do you really want to fire up your gas guzzling vehicle to get to the parks?

We were at the fort from June 6-13 and decided that it would be quicker to take a horse and wagon than the bus. It was not the actual wait time to get on the bus to go, it was the amount of time on the bus and all the stop and go action on the gas pedal...we all felt sick. We decided that the easiest thing except for AK was to take the boat over to the contemp and hop on the monarail, or take the boat to MK. The guys on the boat to and from MK were FANTASTIC and one night coming back at 2 am he turned it into a "party boat" and had everyone laughing. Our advice is to stick to the boats. :moped:

Having stayed at both the Fort and POR, we didn't see any significant difference between the travel times for either! And we're much happier at the Fort!

When we went in Nov we waited about the same as always as previously said your on vacation isn't the idea to relax if you race to get somewhere you miss the things inbetweenand there is so much in disney to see if you are worried about not getting to do everything you have 2 options
1 book a longer trip
2 book a nother trip if you don't see it this trip there is always the next one
besides that is just a good reason to go back

No one seems to mind renting a golf cart for $300.00 plus dollars for a week.
But everyone seems to recoil in horror at renting a car for $150.00 to drive around on your own schedule.
Maybe its just me.
