Are these things ever for real?

I've been getting email at my university account asking for students who will take surveys from home and get paid for them. I like taking surveys so am curious whether it'd be worth looking into or not. Wouldn't bring in much at all, but every little bit helps, right?

There is once company thats real its called Pinecone Research.
The compensation isn't that much, but you get to test products and stuff.

You may also want to ask on the budget board.

i'm sure some of them are scams, but some are definitely real. i am doing some interviews today and we are paying participants.

It depends on what they are asking you to do....if they want you to pay for anything to take the survey or get a list of places that give surveys then it is a scam. Just be careful and ask alot of questions of the company if you are interested.

I do Pinecone surveys and they only pay $5 per survey. They claim to send products to people to try out, but I've never been sent anything yet. The checks do come quickly, though.

I also do Pinecone. Normally I get one to two surveys a month. They do send out products. We got some special coffee to try one time and that was fun.

In case anyone asks, you have to find a banner online in order to sign up. I haven't seen any for ages.

They are 100% about payment. :D

Take a Trip to the DIS Disney Rewards Programs board. There is a thread, it should be stickied near the top, containing a list of survey sites and other "reward" sites.

I've taken surveys through LightSpeed, NFO My Survey, Survey Spot, Greenfield Online and BuzzBack. Actual cash received was $15 for two surveys completed. Some survey sites offer points which are later redeemed for cash and/or prizes. I've earned over $50 in gift certificates and a couple of other items for rewarding since July 2003.

I'm a PineCone person too. I can't believe how many studies i've done, I've probably made a good amount of money from them. :) We've gotten a few products too. :)

So how do you tell the real ones from the scams?

If they tell you to pay, its not worth it.

Pine____ is a reputable company. I love them!

There are others out there such as (ones that I have heard of, gotten paid by, and done something with)

www.gozing.com *they pay by paypal, and they are slow to pay, but it does happen, sometimes its comes all at once

www.greenfield.com again, slower to pay, and sometimes you get through the survey w/o qualifying!

American Consumer something (initials are ACOP), I do survery from them and get paid about every quarter

Penn Schoerand, & Berland is another one. They pay via payal as well.

Another one is Attitudes Across America. They used to pay via Amazon.com gift certificates (great for my textbooks), and now they have gone to a rewards system. I just ordered a target gift card that way, so its ok by me. I wish it was still $5 amazon certs, but hey, I'll take a Target gift card (I chose target, but there was also barnes and noble and others.)

Buzzback (I've gotten paid with them as well)

I've also done focus groups, (loved those), and a study from the University of Pennsylvania regarding telephones. Penn paid me $10 to talk on the phone (they paid for the calls!) for five minutes, and my focus group was incredible.. I made $100 in two and a half hours!

I've also gotten survey for grad research (a phd dissertation) collecting research and the like, and gotten a small token for that as well (sometimes it $5 in an envelope) or a small gift certificate.

Hate to be a downer, but *some* sites like the ones listed on the rewards board are strife with dropping spyware on your machine. Of course, not ALL of them are that way, but I tried a few and ran adaware on my machine afterwards and wow....

Good luck!

I have to agree. I pick and choose which programs to participate in and found tons of spyware as well. I also got tons of spam email as well. It just wasnt' worth it.
