Are there usually discounts in October?

I am a teacher and moving schools next year. The new school I will be at will have a break in October that I've never had. Yea!! The official calendar won't be out until next month, but I am thinking we will either have a week or maybe even 2 weeks at the end of Oct/beginning Nov. Are there any good discounts at that time? We were thinking of renting DVC (we did in the past), but if there is like a 30% discount on villas at that time, we may just get a regular reservation rather than DCV. We've had a good experience with renting DVC, but I would be more comfortable with just a regular reservation if it is about the same price.
Thanks!

Frankly, October's been brutal for DVC this year, so if you don't already have a secured booking you may be surprised at the lack of availability there.

I was just about to say this! We were wait-listed for what we wanted - couldn't even find a 2 bedroom available in our choice location. My husband called to see if they could do anything and they said October was shaping up to be very crowded. We ended up getting our upgrade, but we weren't counting on it.

I would be shocked if Free Dining came out in October this year - they use it to fill the hotels. If the hotels are full, what's the point?

October and November 2016 were excluded from the bounce back offers.

Anytime during Food and Wine Festival is very very difficult at any Epcot area DVC resort. You may be able to get a day here and there but not a week to 2 weeks. As for resorts not near Epcot, you might have luck somewhere like Saratoga Springs, but even then I think two weeks is unlikely. Have already seen some queries from persons who found themselves unable to get any Epcot area resort, DVC or not, for their dates during Food and Wine.

Free Dining is generally not offered for most of October. Last year the only October check-in dates eligible were October 1-2 and October 25-31. And then no more check-in dates available until November 8.

This year, there are holes at OKW, AKV and Saratoga in October for many dates/room types. It is cray-cray.

Deluxe availability is very sparse in mid October already. DD13 asked if we could stay at Contemporary and I couldn't find any rooms at all for our date, just BLT, and I think GF and Poly are both club level only for the same dates. Hopefully it opens up soon or I am going to have to go with plan B. October will be our last trip to WDW until they finish Star Wars Land, and some of the kids haven't stayed deluxe before, but I'm choking on club level prices...especially since we need 2 rooms.

Depending on your dates, you may be running into the same thing I did. I ended up going through an agency that had room blocks reserved at Poly and CR; I was able to select Garden Wing for CR or Standards at Poly from their blocked rooms.

If you're going to travel during October, I recommend going through a TA. We have our big family trip planned for July that we booked with no issues. But our shorter October trip that me and my sister are planning so we can go to MNSSHP is proving to be a challenge. We originally thought we'd just wait until our July trip and book a bounce back, but October isn't in any bounceback offers at all this year. The entire month is blocked out. We tried renting points for dvc and we couldn't get anything for our dates. All of the options we normally stay available through Disney are booked up too, so we went through a TA and got a really good price at one of the places (poly standard view) that's listed as unavailable through Disney. I would not be surprised if Disney excludes October from any discounts, given that at most deluxes and dvc are already booked except for things like TPV club level at Poly and CR and some 2 bedroom villas.

When we went last October for MNSSHP we were shocked at how packed it was. It definitely felt busier than our July 4 week trip, and it looks like it's going to be just as crowded this year too.

I was having trouble getting anything in the Epcot area for mid October so I asked for a quote through DVC. There wasn't much available. So we went with a TA who got us garden view room at the BC with a great discount.

We were there the third week of October last year and it was very crowded for F&W. We had a bounce back last year but it was blacked out this year.

Hi everyone! I'm also running into the everything-booked-in-October problem. If you've had luck booking through a TA when everything appears booked on the Disney website, would you mind sharing the name of your TA? I usually book through a AAA TA, but I don't think they generally have anything different from what shows on the Disney website. Thanks!!

I am also curious about this (in general). I am booked already for 9 nights at OKW, via point rental, but use an agent when I am booking non-DVC & I don't think she sees anything other than what I can also see on Disney's site. She is specifically a Disney TA too.

It depends on the agency.
