Are there plans for DVC rooms at the Polynesian?

I haven't heard anything, although Disney seems to have found a strong profit center in DVC, and it wouldn't surprise me if eventually every deluxe resort became partially DVC.

If DVC has plans for rooms at the Poly I don't think that would be for a very long time. They still have to officially announce DVC at the Contemporary and since all the rooms at the Poly were just renovated, which Longhouse would either have to go or be converted into DVC type rooms.

Scary, I'd probably buy as well and I do not like timeshares.

They are still selling Saratoga Springs, and Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas. Plus most think they are planning a DVC complex at the Contemporary, too. I would think it would at least 5 years before they would announce any new places.

we were promised ONE on the monrail. really think it will be the CR.

there was plans - over where the Luau Cove is.

but so far when they go with a DVC - they are not near where the plans were.

the DVC units were surpose to be near the bus stop at AKL - they are in the opposite area and much, much bigger than planned.

the ones for the CR - were to be on the other side of the tennis court - not the North wing.

if there was going to be a DVC unit at the Polyn in the next 10 years - it would have been done when they did the rehab. that would have been the perfect time to do a DVC unit.

so can't even see one at the Polyn in the next 10 years. Heck we have waited 15 years for the one at the CR.

my opinions.

depends upon how much the new hotel will cost GF - as far as it being part of the DVC. Sorry didn't pay attention when the GF was discussed - just don't like it.

Orlando has never had a 5 star hotel - since the Hyatt Grand Cypress lost it 5 star rating in the 1990's. the new Ritz is only a 4 star.

the new hotel (okay kept forgetting who is building it) is surpose to be a 5 star.

I agree with you.

I hope they NEVER build DVC at the Polynesian. For me personally, it'd ruin the already-perfect ambiance of this resort.

Sorry, I just don't like DVC at all and I don't want it at my favorite resort. :confused3

P.S. I just want to clarify that I don't think there's anything specifically wrong with DVC per se, but I have absolutely no interest in it, and I would hate to see the Polynesian resort changed in order to incorporate it.

I'm not sure what you've got against DVC. It's actually brought an infusion of cash into WDW to allow them to do a variety of upgrades around the property.

With more and more people buying into DVC who would otherwise be occupying deluxe rooms, it's quite possibly going to become a matter of survival for the deluxes to convert some of their property to DVC. Additionally by selling DVC, WDW is virtually guaranteeing resturant and theme park revenue for decades from people who might otherwise begin to vacation in other places. It's actually marketing genious on their part to convert pieces of each deluxe into DVC to attract DVC purchasers who wouldn't buy DVC otherwise--just look at the early posters to this thread who stated that they wouldn't buy DVC unless it was available at the Polynesian.

I'm just not interested in DVC. I'm not a timeshare person either, but I'd have to really take a look at availability in monorail rooms. I really haven't done the math, but if it saved me money I'd consider it. Maybe the ones at the Contemporary will be worth a look.

I've just never wanted the other locations.

DVC additions to deluxe resorts have either converted rooms at resorts with lower bookings such wing rooms at the Contemporary (??) and AKL or brand new construction such as BCV, villas at AKL and VWL.

POLY has high bookings and doesn't have a natural location for much DVC construction. A natural location would have been where the Wedding Pavillion is, between the GF and POLY. I guess Disney could consider converting some of the TTC to some kind of hotel construction.

It would be a dream come true for me for a DVC at the Poly as long as they kept it blended in with the existing resort. I don't like the building they are making at CR. If it was a smaller version of the building their now then maybe it would be okay. I really considered doing an add on there but I would rather wait for Poly. I have my points at BWV I'm still paying off, so I can wait 10+ years if I have to. ;)

I don't think SeaSpray said anything wrong, it was their personal opnion. They don't want DVC to be built at the Poly for their reasons and it was not an attack against any DVC members.

First of all, I didn't say I had anything *against* DVC. I even added the "P.S" to clarify that. I know a lot of people who love "owning a piece of Disney", through their DVC purchase.

Secondly, I'm not looking at DVC from a marketing perspective. While I am a share holder, my attitude towards DVC being built at the Polynesian Resort is purely based on my feelings and opinions as a guest of the resort.

If I were to look at it from a marketing perspective, of course DVC makes excellent sense, for the very reasons you cited.

Thank you! And you're right; I wasn't saying anything negative about anyone who owns DVC or who would buy DVC in the future. I was simply sharing my personal feelings on a resort that I love. Thanks for understanding that :thumbsup2

I agree on both points. If you look here you'll see there isn't a whole lot of room over there:
