Are there any two bedroom villas at VWL with BAD views?

I'm just wondering. We really don't care about looking at the lake or the pool, and I know those views are hard to come by anyway. Just some nice trees would be fine. However, we really don't want to spend our time looking at dumpsters and service areas, since we really do tend to spend a lot of time on our balcony. Is this something we should worry about, or do most of the two bedrooms at VWL have ok views? Like I said, we're not really picky. We just don't want to look at that infamous dumpster. We had planned on checking in about 3pm on Sunday, December 12th, if that matters. However, we are transferring over from the Boardwalk that day and we could go over and check in first thing in the morning, before we go to the parks - if that would make a difference. Any insight would be appreciated. This trip is a special gift for my mom, and she really deserves it, so I want to make it as magical as possible.

Actually, there are more 2 bedrooms that over look (or at least can see) the infamous dumpster than can see the lake. Here is a map of the VWL rooms. The ones all the way down the hall on the right, that don't looks towards the lake are near the dumpster. If you get a high 2nd number, the higher it is, the closer it is to the dumpster. Basically any room that ends in 50 or above, and is an even number is near the dumpster.

Thanks for the map. So, does that mean that the lay-out on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors are all the same? Like I said, we dont' really care about looking at the lake/pool, but we would like to avoid the dumpster. Any suggestions?

We stayed in Rm 3556 in August, the last 2-bedroom on the non-lake side. We could see the roof of the building which I assume has the dumpsters, but I never would have known about them without reading this board. Maybe because we were right over the building, we couldn't see what was under it (???) It is a very long walk down to that end of the hall, though.

We loved our stay there, by the way. Have fun. It should be even better decorated for Christmas.

We also stayed in 3556 this past summer, which was the "dumpster" view. We were not on our balcony much, but did not consider it an eyesore. Like juliem96 said, you looked down at it and see roof and part of the building. When I was outside, I never noticed a dumpster smell or anything offensive. Perhaps upon checkin, ask for "lakeside" because if you are on the side with the lake, you'll be opposite the dumpster building. Lakeside also won't necessarily get you a lakeview though. HTH

We were in 4540, one bedroom (I think that was the number), what everyone is calling the dumpster view, is it the electrical vault in the turnaround, with the log structure over it, (kind of like a quare pergola for a vault??) you can see the green but that was it??? I thought my husband said it was a vault. You could see the bus area in the distance!

The "dumpster" isn't really a dumpster...it appeared to be a laundry service area (where laundry is dropped to be picked up and sent elsewhere for washing). And yes, its a service area.....not the greatest view in the world....but it's not bad. You don't see or smell garbage. There isn't an abnormal amount of noise in the area or anything. Basically what you see is road, some log fences and the receptacle. No big deal. Almost every room at OKW overlooks someone's HVAC unit and that's really no more or less attractive. There are still plenty of trees.

Unless you spend hours every day on your balcony, I don't see the big deal.

Thanks, all. It doesn't sound like the dreaded dumpster view is that bad, afterall. So, I guess I won't waste any more time worrying too much about it. :teeth:

Maybe somebody who does get that view should take a picture to post, just so everyone else can see it. It might keep people frosm stressing over it too much.

thank you - Im assuming no matter what size room its better to get lakeside, before room #s 50 and up
but the dumpster view isnt really that bad if its all thats available?

Just realized we're checking in the same day...we're on waitlist for a 2br for that night, but have a 1br reserved now....2br for the rest of the week.

See you there!

The dumpster view on the upper floors isn't bad, but being on the first floor was not fun. I expected to see trees from my balcony, but logs??

Hey, Lesley. Maybe we'll see you at the pool!

Oh, by the way, I see you guys are from Columbia, SC. The president of Columbia College is an old friend of ours. :)
