I listen to a lot of genres, but it seems that lately some of the best music that's been coming across my desk has been Christian rock.

P.O.D., Skillet, Pillar, Decyfer Down, Need to Breathe, Underoath, etc.

Any other fans out there?

My DH likes P.O.D.. What I listen to is probably more Christian Pop then Christian Rock. I really like Point of Grace, Audio Adrenaline, Jars of Clay, FFH, etc..

With the exception of a handful of songs, no, I usually don't care for it.

I understand what the artists are trying to do, but I usually find the quality of the music substandard. The industry seems to have the problem of promoting music because it's "Christian", not because it's particularly good.

Still, every once in a while someone comes along that can do both, and that's cool.

Have you taken a listen to any of the bands in my first post? If not, you should.

I fell in love with P.O.D. a couple of months before I found out they were a Christian rock band. I acually saw them at a concert and their energy blew me away--that was probably five years ago now--and I still think they are a fabulous band. Not the best musicians, but great songs.

Pillar is an amazing band as is Decyfer Down.

I'm very, very discerning. I put my nose up at a lot of stuff-and HATE "gimmicks." Stryper was a no-talent gimmick. Much of todays Christian rock is amazing. IMHO it's too bad that Creed, P.O.D., and Flyleaf are the only three that have really crossed-over into the mainstream. And that doesn't mean I'm saying Creed had talent. Actually they did, but not in the lead singer. Don't get me going on that one.

I didn't know P.O.D was christian..I guess I am thinking the same group..don't they have a song called 'Alive' I really like that song...has a hard rock edge..and don't they sing 'Youth of a Nation' ?

Like Jars of Clay song 'Flood' too...

We went to a Christian Concert in Cincy(at the Gardens) and it was pretty good..Hawk Nelson, Stephen Curtis Chapman were there..my DW will correct me if i am wrong

Those aren't really "rock" bands though. SCC is waaay too "worship" for me.

I like Christian rock, though the bands I prefer would probably be considered more alternative Christian rock.

When Jars of Clay was a fairly new band, they got a lot of play on one of our local rock radio stations. I would consider them more alternative rock though.

One of the hot new bands on the Christian rock scene is Under Oath--they are from Tampa. IMHO they definitely lean towards an alternative/indy sound. :)

I tend toward the more alternative bands too, like Jars of Clay but I'm going to check out POD after reading this! I also like Switchfoot a lot.

I don't know if they're strictly rock but in my house all of us (adults & teenager) really like BarlowGirl. They put on a *great* live show.

agnes!

Wow! I had forgotten about Switchfoot. I'll have to dig that CD out this weekend. Thanks for the reminder! :)

I really like Switchfoot - they've had a measure of general commercial success a few years ago with "The Beautiful Letdown". I didn't care much for their follow-up album - it was darker in tone during a low period in my own life ("Shadow Proves the Sunshine" was a beautiful song). Their most recent album ("Oh Gravity") is very good - my favorite song from it is "Faust, Midas & Myself".

I also like P.O.D., Audio Adrenaline and SuperChick, which has a tie-in somehow with Barlow Girls.

I was just going to post SuperChick. Big fave of ours.

Count me in!

DH and I listen to Sonic Flood, Casting Crowns and a few others. He just played one in the car on the way to lunch that was too heavy for me and it was Christian. He's got a few other Christian hard rock at home and in the car like 12 Stones.

Our collection has been growing since he signed up with Sound & Spirit (a CD club). I like the contemporary music like Michael W Smith, DC Talk, Steven Curtis Chapman, etc. DH likes the contemporary as well as the heavier Christian bands.

More of a Third Day, David Crowder, Newsboys, Toby Mac, Audio Adrenaline listener, but on occasion we toss in a little Kutless, Stellar Kart, Thousand Foot Krutch, Sanctus Real, Hawk Nelson, Switchfoot, etc. Underoath I hear a little of now and then when DS and friends are around. Also hearing the name Family Force 5 floating around amongst the boys, but don't know anything about them yet. We love going to the music festivals in the summer. Great way to become acquainted with new bands.

I don't really listen to much of it as a genre, but these folks are friends of mine and I think they are pretty good - perhaps some here might enjoy checking them out:

They seem talented with what I listened to, but I am totally turned off by worship bands regardless of the level of talent. JMHO. Thanks for posting though, my guess is that others will really enjoy them. :thumbsup2

Guess I don't know the genre well enough to know the difference between "worship bands" and other bands. I'm a classical music guy mostly and they are just friends of mind. I know them, actually, because one of them is married to one of my classical music colleagues.

I'm supposed to be going to Cornerstone Florida in a few weeks. FF5 is one of the bands IIR. I got a heads up that they are announcing a "major rock act" in a couple of days, but I can't figure out who it could be. I know for sure it's not Flyleaf, P.O.D., or Skillet because they are all otherwise engaged. They are really the biggest Christian rock bands out there right now, and Pillar is already on the bill. :confused3

I listen to more of the Contemporary Christian music, but I do love P.O.D., Switchfoot, and Audio Adrenaline.
