are there any big drops on RNR?

I know that this topic has probably been covered loads of times before but are there any big drops on RNR? As i hate them and i am such a big baby.

But in my defence (!) i have been on space mountain, splash mountain and big thunder railway - if any of those can be compared to it?

There are no big drops, however, there are a few inversions!! Don't know if that makes it easier to handle?

I think since you have done the others you should do it, but . . . .um . . . . . it is a major roller coaster with spirals, drops, high speed, etc. Plus at the beginning it has kind of the opposite of a drop - more of a cannon shoot. This is a fast thrill ride (for me, anyway), but it is much smoother than Space Mountain. I like it, but the speed kind of wears me out. If you haven't done Tower of Terror, do it first. It might be considered less of a "thrill" ride than RnR. If you like it, then try RnR.

Oh no. I know you can't compare but are they a lot bigger than the 52ft at the end of splash mountain?

I thought that TOT would be a lot worse than RNR??

IMHO, there is nothing you can compare RNR to. I went on it for the first time last week, and let me tell you, it is intense!!! To me, it makes Tower of Terror seem like a kiddie ride. It's not so much big drops, but the speed. You take off like a rocket! It takes your breath away. I had my DD (7) on it with me and was worried sick about her the whole time, I just couldn't enjoy it, and I am someone who loves rollercoasters. I was shaking like a leaf when I got off, I could barely get out of the seat Having said all that, we went on it again a couple of days later and it was better knowing what it was going to be like. I would say try it, you may like it, you may hate it, but you won't know until you try.

I don't recall any steep, long drops like you find on many roller coasters or Splash Mountain. I thought the most distinctive feature is the "blast off" start to the ride. I've been on many scarier roller coasters. RnR, as with many WDW rides is special because of Disney presentation.

Hey,

I've been on over 100 roller coasters so I think I can help you Rock N Roller Coaster launches you from about 0-65 mph in 4 seconds! This is definetly intense, yet it's so thrilling and short in length that I wouldn't let it freak me out. Right from the launch you go into two inversions, followed by numerous turns with themeing that lights up when the train goes past. Various signs and cut-outs of buildings, etc.... Once you hit the mid-course brakes, the train slows down and you continue through more turns and finally one last corkscrew. The inversions are so quick that you won't even notice your upside down. My cousin who was 5 at the time and SCARED of everything did it and had no problem. He did it BEFORE Space Mountain and all the other mountains at Walt Disney World!

Behind every seat are two speakers that play 1 of 4 Aerosmith songs which make the experience even more exciting!

I don't *do drops* either. Can't get up the nerve to go on Space Mountain. Did ToT once and will not be doing that again. Did Splash Mountain once and will not be doing that again either. I do, however, love BTMRR, which doesn't have a big drop in my opinion.

That said, I also LOVE RnR. There are no "big drops." You do take off like a rocket at the beginning and there are several loops where you are sideways or upside down, but you do NOT have any big drops. Certainly NOTHING like the one at the end of Splash Mountain.

I don't do drops either! But I have done all the Mountains and even did Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal. Just to see Incredible Hulk coaster makes me physically sick. BUT

I LOVE RNRC! Love the fast take off. You don't really know you are inverting till it's almost over and your foot kind of lifts off on it's own. DD is just a much a chicken as I am and we had to to it twice in a row. We can't wait to get back.

I am not a rollercoaster person but went on this to thank DH for all his help and I love it! real fast and it is only 90 seconds and very smooth you can get through it and most people love it. On the other hand I will never do space again to much rattling.

Can you all tell me more about Space Mountain? It has been YEARS since I rode it. I was younger, skinnier and BRAVER then... DH has been wanting to take the kids on it and I am afraid they'll be terrified. I recall lots of jerking around, but no major drops and certainly no inversions. Is Space Mountain a relatively small coaster? I think we will try Big Thunder Mountain first in any case. But Space Mountain is in the dark which is great if you are afraid of heights...

I would never go on a coaster that went upside down! BUT I did ride RnR. I didn't even notice the inversions. Oh, I knew they were there. I knew it entering the queue. But since the ride is in the dark you don't see the track or what lies below.

Not only are there no big drops, there is never even a hint of a weightless sensation. You are "pulling G's" all the way, in the sense that centrifugal force* is holding you in your seat. You may not be able to tell when you are upside down!

I love RnR, but hate "big hill" coasters. I'm not at all excited about ToT but maybe I'll try it someday.

*Yes I know the real physics, so spare me.

As someone who just did RnR 8 times (5 times within a 30 minute span) and Space Mountain 5 times just last week I can assure you of a few things.

According to the CM there, it goes from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds. The launch is definately where you get the 'rush'. That's also where they take the picture, so make sure you keep your eyes open and your hands in the air! First corkscrew happens at the end of the first hill. Really there are no drops, in the true sense of the word. The ride is mainly going fast with a couple of inversions and some good banking. The ride is very smooth and the Aerosmith music blaring in your ears will calm your nerves. IMHO, the ride needs to be about 5 minutes longer....it's just too darn short. It's over before you know it. The inversions are no big deal as most of the time you're in and out of it in the blink of an eye and then you realize you were just upside down.

Space Mountain is slower (only goes 28 mph) and has no real drops either. However, it is more jerky than RnR (which is very smooth).

Space Mountain can be compared to a Jumbo Jet type ride that you find at beach piers and carnivals/fairs.

No drops more than 30 ft and even that drop is very gradual in angle. It's thrilling, not scary. Going through the dark building (you can see somewhat, not too dark) at 30 mph feels awesome and you feel as though you are going a lot faster.

Take into mind that it's dark enough that you don't see all the supports/railings in some of those pictures.

Space Mountain isn't a scary ride and you should have a GREAT time on it!

Thanks, everyone. I especially loved the "inside Space Mountain with the lights on" photos. The track looks like what we call the "Wild Mouse" at other amusement parks. My daughter LOVES that ride -- I think she is ready to try Space Mountain, as well as Thunder Mountain RR. Rock and Roll Coaster I think we'll save for a few years!
