Keep watching the prices. I didn't book right away for Nov. and watched the prices go to $138 one way I ended up booking at $119 and was able to get credit when they dropped to $94 and $79. That was about a week ago.

Yes the are now back to giving credits again. It's not a refund, but a credit that needs to be used to purchase another ticket, seat assignments or luggage within one year of the original purchase of the ticket.
They do not charge a fee anymore and you do have to call to get the credit. You can't do it online. I was told by the VERY NICE agent that I talked to to keep checking and call back again if the price drops again. The next time
I called, the agent wasn't quite as happy to help, but made the changes and informed me that it may take a couple days to get the full credit showing on my account. It showed up so I now have over $200 credit. Those price drops add up when you have 8 tickets
Could you feasibly use these credits on the current flight for say luggage charges before you fly. In other words could the current flight we have for October/November--if the fares were to go down before the actual flight date if there was a price drop could we use that credit for seat assignments or luggage fees or will we have to pay that at the actual time of booking?? Thanks for posting this and everyone's help!!

What about upgrades to business class at checkin?? I'm assuming that you can only do the $49/$69 upgrade price at checkin and not anytime before online-- Does anyone know if you have to wait until checkin at the airport to upgrade for this price or can you do it say 24 hours before your flight online?? The credit if the flight price went down would be a great thing to use for this too since we don't fly every year and they expire.

I'm not positive on this but think I'm correct, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. When checking in online they give you the option to pay for the upgrade. As long as the credit is in your aplus account you should be able to apply it. I never upgrade this way (I use frequent flyer points from CC) so I have never personally done this.
What I can tell you is when I upgrade with points at midnight the day before and I have paid for seat assignments, they automatically credit my aplus account for what I had paid on seat assignments. I do love AirTran
