Are the towel animals "yours" to keep?

I don't want to stir up the debate but this was one person posting a WDW reply. Are we sure that is what the WDW position is on this issue?

I was the individual who posted this information on the Debate Board thread over a year ago, and I can assure you that was WDW's position as of February 13, 2003.

Please re-read the quote. You can see the ACTUAL emails passed around between Guest Services and the Legal Department. Only the actual names have been "X'd" out.

I wouldn't take them, but anyone who has, don't sweat it. The Washcloth Police will not be knocking on your door.

*Ahem* Hope you don't mind if I step in here, folks....

The original letter to/from WDW is mine :o As I do not frequent the debate board, I had Vicky post it for me last year.
Honestly, it is real...I wrote it, Disney responded.

Since the writing of that letter, I have become a Disney CM myself. The answer is still the same (so agreed to by every resort experienced CM I have asked, so far :p )

They're a gift...if you receive one, take it home and enjoy, guilt-free :)

Thank you! Surely to goodness this puts this argument to rest.

A year later, I'm still amazed at how much people care about what happens to a washcloth!:p

I don't think that people care about a washcloth but what is the policy concerning the towel animals.

So I suggest that if anyone is concerned to ask the front desk at your resort what the policy is.

I'll be honest - I always take our towel animals. I have a collection in one of our bathrooms.

Well, if it's confession time....

Not only did I take every single "portable" ta that was made for us, I also took the glass that was part of the toothbrush holder towel animal. I have them in my bathroom too!

I took them and I'm not ashamed to say so! What's more, if I get any more, I'll take them too!:teeth:

ummm...I think it's been answered....you might not like the answer because it went against what you were sure the answer was, but it has been answered.

That's fine if Disney says it is ok. I still can't fathom having something decorate my home that was once used in washing some stranger's body. Yuck. :earseek:

And to think...you actually used wash cloths and towels at the hotel on your own body that were once used in washing some stranger's body !! The horror!! :teeth:

We had a superb housekeeper at AKL last year. Our girls were delighted by the original displays that would greet us each afternoon. She very cleverly created towel creatures and arranged them with our stuffed animals. We took many pictures, but honestly I never even thought about taking any of the animals home. So, I have learned something from reading this thread.

Now Im mad lol Ive been to Disney World 11 times and stayed at resorts from Deluxe to Value and I have NEVER ONCE gotten a towel animal. What the heck!

Got a little washcloth bird at CBR once, that 's still my only towel animal unless you count the ones on the cruise (which I would bet you're not supposed to bring home, although I would have loved to keep the towel monkey). I do wish I'd thought to bring the little bird home.

We received two hand towel/washcloth ducks at the All Star Sports few years ago and didn't think to take them with us....DARN!! We'll know they're ours from now on!:D

Does this mean I could have taken the lamp, too? :teeth:

Geez, after staying at WDW more than twenty times, we finally got towel animals on our last stay at CBR, a baby and mama bunny. They were so cute I took pictures of them. I had no idea they were considered gifts and left them there. I hope I didn't insult our mousekeeper. Also, we were two adults with no children, and there was no evidence of children staying with us, so I don't think they're made just for kids.:D

While there is no "official" written policy, we spoke with one of the housekeeping managers, who advised that the washcloth "creations" are indeed considered "gifts" which guests are permitted to take home with them.

Wow! If I would have known that, I would have taken my turkey home with me! Oh well... We will be back in 8 days, maybe we will get another one this time! Here's hoping! :goodvibes

Thanks for the info on this. I have always wondered about it.

So now your're telling me I should have listened to my mother! LOL, if there ever is a next time, I'll give in to DD's request!
