Are the space mountain tracks both the same?

Thanks! I always wondered and since we usually only go on it once per trip I can never remember which side we got last time. Good to know I'm not missing out if I only do "one side"!

Their very similar but left side (standby) has a bigger drop than the right side (FP). It's not by too much, but it's different. So yes both sides are slightly different.

Really?! That's awesome!

They are mirror images and one track is a few feet longer so they can cross, but that's it. Your experience will not be different in any detectable way.

I'm used to the FP side... On my last ride they sent us to the standby side for boarding
After the climb hill you stay up there longer as you go over to the other track. Overall I kinda felt the standby guests got the better side.

We were stuck at the "10 seconds to launch" station for 20 minutes while they had to reset the ride. The CM standing with us said the sides are exact mirror images but one side is slightly longer because of a longer roll to the unloading stop at the end. Another interesting point that no one here asked for: He said the ride is about 10 seconds slower on cold wheels like we were about to have because as the wheel grease heats up it got faster. And after sitting for 20 minutes it would definitely be slower. I thought that was interesting.

They may not BE much different, but it sure FEELS different if you have always gone on one side, then all of a sudden go on the other side. That is what happened with us - we had never gone on the right side and had ridden bunches of times. It felt very different the day we went on the right! But, we were excited to have a new experience on an old favorite!!

Totally agree, the left side's second drop is noticeably longer.

Nope.

Agreed with the posters about the drops.

I can't remember which one but I'll take PP's take on the FP line having a tiny bit of a steeper drop. Other than that, they are mirror images of one another. One of them does have a tiny bit steeper drops, but nothing major.

it does throw you off if you ride one side many times in a row and then switch it up. It is pitch black in there now due to the renovations 5-6 years ago. Your body is predicted one thing to happen (turn right) but the other things happens (turn left.)

I don't prefer one over the other....doesn't matter. Whichever gets me on SM fastest!

The one on the right is a more comfortable ride, IMO.

Personally I found the left side a LOT rougher than the right side!!

Recently rode both sides on the same day. The FP line (I think that is the one you are calling Left side?) was smoother BUT, and I think this makes all the difference, we were in the front car for that ride. Our next ride they sent us to the stand by line to board and we were in the last car - oh soooo much rougher! Had our first ride been in the back car I would not have wanted to ride again.

I would love to ride one right after the other but the line was always too long to do that! :(

Left has bigger drop and is rougher, no doubt.

Right is smoother ...

Little differences, but there are differences.

Which is the FP side? Right or left?

Both, they only use 1 side unless it's getting crowded. Many rides are like this and they only run 1 track until there is a line long enough that 1 track can't catch up. I have no clue if this is accurate but it always seems to be the right side in the mornings and left at night when it's 1 track.

I have seen it split to FP on the right and SB on the left ... though they were also putting FPs to the left, the right was exclusively FP.
