I was reading another thread that said they were moving the peacocks out of the campground. No Peacocks! When did they decide to eliminate them? That was one of our highlights last year! Does anyone have more info on this!

We were there for 4th of July week and only saw 1 peacock the entire time. I agree that they were the highlight of our trips. We always loved looking to see if we could find the white peacock.

Where did you hear that they were moving the peacocks? That would at least be a relief to know they were moved intentionally. We were afraid they were all killed in the hurricanes last year and that was why they were gone. :paw:

In The initial entry on the "back to reality" thread...

"the one thing I can't get out of my mind about the whole trip is the peacocks. Ft. W is trapping them and shipping them over to AK. I really am bummed about that as it is the favorite activity for the 3 yo. She loves to look for peacocks."

We were at Disney a few weeks ago when I noticed a large metal cage near one of the walkways. I saw a groundskeeper and asked him what the cage was for. He said that Disney is moving all of the peacocks out. They were being caged and shipped to a game preserve off property. He said that many guests had complained that the peacocks, when seeing their reflection in the shiny metal of a car, would attack and damage the car. He mentioned that in Fort Wilderness, all of the females and babies were already gone.

I was told that the white peacock survived all of the hurricanes, but did not survive being hit by a vehicle. I was not told wether it was a golf cart or a motor home/car. I also saw the cage by the walkway. I know a lot of people pay big bucks for their campers and cars, but I feel that the peacocks were there first. I will probably get flamed for that remark, but just my thought. I usually saw them in the 100 loop, but last year they were working their way up to the 700 loop and 400 loop. There were a bunch of mommy/babies so maybe there was no other place for them to go but further into the campground.

:sad1: :sad2:

we looked forward to our daily visits. I better not tell the girls they will be bummed for sure.....

We are soooo going to miss the peacocks. I had remarked to my husband that we hadn't seen as many this year and we saw one of the cages set up and didn't know what is was...now it makes sense. We will miss them!!
:guilty: :sad1:  :(
That's so sad about the white peacock.
