Are the cruises being exceptionally "healthy" this year?

I don't know if it is a matter of "not so many bugs", or cruise line diligence for hygeine, or folks finally understanding the necessity of personal hygeine......but there has been little said on this board, or in the news about other cruise lines... about stomach virus on board the ships this winter. But for whatever reason, I am thankful. Is this the perception of others too?

There have been a few cases reported here on the boards of people contracting some type of stomach virus and being asked to stay in their room during a cruise, but my perception is that the incidence of this is much lower this year. In the cruise industry in general, it would seem to be much more under control than last year, as I don't believe any line has had to cancel a cruise, whereas DCL, Carnival, and HAL all cancelled voyages last winter.

I would think that the lines now have a better understanding of what the so-called Norovirus is, and how to combat its spread. In addition, passengers are probably more aware of it, too, and as such take a few more precautions.

While it's a very unfortunate thing to have happen to you while on vacation, I think that even last year the odds were well in your favor of avoiding it.
