Are Strip Clubs Normal/Acceptable?

I agree about being allowed to build and run them. I just would rather it not be near where my family lives. The store I was talking about has had many complaints of illegal activity and has been shut down once before. I am hoping that it gets shut down again for good. I live in a nice town and there is nothing else like that in town.

Oh I agree with you on that point. I have never seen any here in NY where you would see anything you should not be seeing from the outside.

Even the dives keep all the windows blacked out and closed all the time. Now that does not mean you should not be allowed to build and run them. They do have to be managed properly and if not, enforced.

We had an adult store ended up burning down, and I thinkit was down the road from a school. They moved it to the main route and they do haev mannequins in the windows with lingerie but I have never seen any thing else on display. Of course the name of it is Giggles so when we drive by my kids always ask what it is, I think they think its an amusement park :rotfl: I just tell them its a store that sells underwear :thumbsup2

I actually wondered if I would be able to call the police about that. The pictures would be considered pornographic in any area..not just mine.

I think if I found it that offensive, I would find another Chinese restaurant. And tell the one I was leaving why I was leaving. If enough customers complain, they would either take action against the adult toy store or they would move. By the way, if the pictures are what could be considered pornographic in your area and they are visible to anyone passing by, I believe you can contact the local police department as this is most likely prohibited by law.

I think it is horrible. I had a long debate about this on a thread & by the responses I was the only prude on the Dis. Glad to see I'm in good company.

If they are pornographic, I am pretty sure you can call the police. After all, there is a reason the porno magazines are behind the counter. I know in my town I would be within my rights to call the policy if pornography were displayed where my child or I could see it. I am obviously all for the rights of anyone to run a legal business but the business must be run legally if you know what I mean.

I always feel like people think I'm a prude too..I'm really not I just disagree with all those kinds of businesses..especially when my children are involved.

As long as it is a legal business, I have no problem with it. DD's older sister owns a tattoo and body piercing parlor which on the scale of things that people look down on is probably right up there with strip clubs. We've dealt with it. One teacher inadvertently had her in tears by making her feel there was something wrong with what her sister does. They were doing a project which involved drawing storefronts and she drew a picture of her sister's store. The teacher crumpled it up, threw it out and that was when she made a comment about trash like that doesn't belong in our town. When I heard about it, I was at that school pretty darn fast. That teacher and I had a talk - told her she had no business criticizing whatever people chose to do for a living as long as it was legal.

If my ex was going to open a strip club I guess I would take the same attitude. It's legal and if you don't like it, too bad. If you accept it, the child will accept it. A few ignorant people might make comments and they might be hurtful to the child, but I believe that is part of growing up. We can't protect them from everything.

I don't think they are anyway near the same thing.

I'd be upset too.,........

just how "open minded" can an 11 yr old be anyway?:confused3

Thats the one. We are neighbors, I live in Wappingers. I didn't know there was one up in Hyde Park too.

Small world. We live in Wappingers also :)

Well stores like Giggles are "fine" in that they are adult only, don't show anything beyond what you would see at VS mall window and such.

But then adult stores like that are different then strip joints.

Even then, if run well and zoned correctly, they should not be in the path of traffic for kids.

I agree with many in that I don't have an issue with strip clubs or adult stores for that matter. As long as they are following the rules/regulations set forth for operating a business then it's fine by me.

Would be somewhat strange for a kid's father to own one but I also agree with the PP who said to tell her it's a bar or a night club and leave it at that. The only reason I know who owns a strip club near me is because the owners had their car repaired at DH's shop. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known either.

I don't have a problem with strip clubs, if anything there aren't enough of them near here :lmao:

Someone owns them, and chances are that that someone has a child. "Peg" shouldn't worry too much about it.

I agree, I don't ming Giggles because it is a stand alone store and I don't have to bring my kids near it, we just drive by from time to time.
I wouldn't want a strip club anywhere near the school or my home, but I don't mind if they are around. The truth is I'm not even sure of any that are around us, buit I'm sure thay are out there.

I'm in this camp, but I do feel for the 11-year old. But then again, when she's 17 I'm sure the boys will find that part about her very interesting.

If the mom deals with this in a healthy manner, then the child will too. The mom can clearly show her disdain for the place, but if it is legal, she needs to point that part out, too. Use it as a basis of a moral lesson if the child finds out what kind of place it really is from her school friends.

I see no issue with the club being opened as long as its a legitimate business and they follow all the appropriate rules.
I live in a former factory town. When we moved in there were 4 clubs. Most look like non-descript buildings. There are now 2 clubs left in town. No one notices anything and I couldn't tell you who owned them if my life depended on it.

I also wouldn't see a problem with an ex owning one. As long as child support is paid, and my child doesn't go visit at the club then I would have no issue. But that's just me. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings.

Ex is trying to put the club in a very high-end area. It's a nice suburb and there will undoubtedly be an uproar. It is supposedly going to be an upscale gentleman's club. Peg says calling it a gentleman's club is just putting perfume on a skunk.

Peg is horrified that her Ex is going to make money off of young women's bodies and the example that sets for their young daughter.

Strip clubs are boring.
I have gone w/ dh a few times and the first few times were kinda fun as we went w/ a group of friends. (husbands and wives) You would be suprised to see how many women go.
Many of the strippers are just girls trying to put themselves through college. I really see nothing wrong with it.
They are not going to come outside and strip! :rotfl2: In fact they will probably not see much of anything.

He may not get to have a permit. Here in Iowa they can only be placed in a buisness district.
