Are nurses too sensitive? "heart attack grill".

Declansdad, I am basing what I said from what I have heard from my sis and some of her RN friends. My sister has heard things that were pretty rude and racy from men mostly after finding out she was a nurse. Not all, but enough to know the stereotype lives. You may not think that way, but there are some that do. I will not give details as this is a family board, but trust me, those things wouldn't have been said to her if she was say a retail clerk or accountant. I'm sure she would garner much more respect if she was a doctor instead. FWIW, my sis is very conservative and does not put herself out there as an easy target. Now I will say goodbye to this thread. :tiptoe: Carry on.

When Hooters does--then I will agree..but everyone defends the other places--so I figure this place was worth a chance. :teeth:

I ate at a restaurant in MS once---it was M*A*S*H* themed (more the unit as opposed to the show). I think the waitress were nurses...or something. But they weren't slutty.

I won't go to Hooter's either.

I don't mind waitresses portraying themselves as nurses, just not slutty ones.

I think we take political correctness a little to seriously.

I don't find this too offensive. I bet if they offered a discount to all "real" nurses, there would be less complaining. :thumbsup2

I don't like slutty dressed waitresses either---it is demeaning to all women.

Why one profession should have clout to shut down a chain while the others are showing just as much thigh and cleavage, is crazy.

When the nurses start protesting other chains with scantilly clad women, I'll take them up in their plight. Until then--to me it is silly to single out one b/c they were personally offended--but change the nurses frock to hot pants and a tight skimpy tank or shirt--and then it is okay. :confused3

I am not PC by any mreans and am not easily offended, but this is offensive.

Most anyone that is a nurse will tell you the comments that have been made to them because of this kind of portrail (sp).

Most of us are highly degrees professionals i.e. Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees. Yet the nursing profession is always portrayed as slutty hand maiden's to doctors. If it wasn't for us nurses, a lot of doctors wouldn't know which end is up.

I would not eat there, even if they paid me.

I won't eat anywhere that women are seen as sex objects.

I don't think it is worth protesting and I think women should have more respect for themselves than to portray other women as sluts.

Maybe all women should protest these kinds of places, Hooter's Air too!

I am a RN with a BSN (I'm also a RDH) and I don't agree. I'm not offended in the least by these women's costumes.....because that is what they are, nothing more than a halloween costume like PAW pointed out earlier.

I also don't see the portrayal of the nursing profession as a bunch of doxies :confused3 .....I was always shown a great deal of respect (most of the time).

True.

I don't go to these places anyway myself. I don't think the food is all that "hot" and the waitresses do nothing for me. ;)

I had a much longer post - then thought better of it because of how much of a "prude" I'd be called as a result. I'll just shorten it to say that I think this and Hooters are a pretty sad commentary on men and women - regardless of the "profession" portrayed by their consumes.

Wife gets the same stuff and she works in IT ("any good porno sights!?" etc). It's not a nurse thing it's a men being men thing which is what this restaurant is capitilizing on.

I'm a nurse & I think it's funny. Actually I wouldn 't mind having one of those little nurse dresses to wear around the house on evening! :lmao: DH would get a kick out of it.

But my point is that men (I'm assuming they are men) who would say these things to a nurse, would say it regardless of any other outside portrayal of their profession.

I'm not trying to be rude but please explain this to me? I have always wondered how the decisions that one woman makes could be demeaning to all others.

Well as I woman, I say that if you decide to use your "Godly Gifts" to go out and hawk heart-attack hamburgers and that is what makes you happy --- you go for it girl.

I kind of find this funny also. I don't see it as all that different than the male stripper dressed as a Police Officer who shows up at parties.

I'm not a nurse.

But I have to say that if I were a Nurse, I'd be far more worried about safe working conditions, adequate training, funded pensions, fully staffed hospital floors that didn't leave me taking care of 12 very ill patients all at once -- etc etc etc than this bit of silliness.

I think they're over reacting. I don't have a problem with the outfits but the food sounds disgusting. :crazy2:

Using T&A to sell food--is somewhat demeaning of all women don't you think.

Can you name 1 restaurant where a topless hot bod man is serving food and it isn't a strip club?

My point in making the statement though is that the nurses are upset b/c they were are a parody of nurses. But if it was a police officer or a french maid, as a collective unit, they wouldn't bat an eye.

So I think despite the fact that I woudln't go to the restaurant, just the mere fact they are playing dress up with one profession is not enough to get up in arms over. It's all or nothing. Can't cry foul b/c you don't like one costume but then ignore all the other places and not protest them.

I'm a nurse and I think it's cute. Over on the nursing boards everyone is up in arms. Nurses need to pick their battles and this isn't one of them. So, yes, nurses are being too sensitive here, IMO.

I won't go to Hooters and I wouldn't go here either. Nothing to do with nurses, but simply not the kind of atmosphere I would choose to support.

I think this is an over the top sensitivity issue. What happens if a snot nosed kid dresses as a nurse? Does this mean that all nurses run around with snotty noses?

I'm an RN, and I think it is dumb but I'm not "upset" over it. Actually I think it is rather funny because the nurses I work with who still wear the old school white nurse uniform accessorize with white support hose and white leather orthopedic shoes! They are at the opposite end of the sexy spectrum! :lmao:
