Are lifeproof cases worth the money?

My husband has the waterproof otterbox. It works, he dropped in the loading dock flooded with water and when he retrieved it a few minutes later he just took it out of the case to make sure it was fine. NOTE: this is perhaps the bulkiest and heaviest case I have ever seen. My husband is super rough on his phones and being a mechanic we just wanted something to protect it and the bulk doesn't bother him.

DD had a Lifeproof which was phenomenal in water. She took it in pools, the ocean, the shower--no problems. It was really neat for her to take pictures and video in the water and to listen to her music in the shower. Unfortunately, it fell from her hands while we were on a hike (so no more than 3 feet off the ground) and the phone's screen SHATTERED. Not just cracked--I mean completely shattered. Shards of glass falling OUT of the phone. RIDICULOUS. And Lifeproof will only send you a new case, not a new phone. SO, with this being said, we will never buy a Lifeproof again. A Ziploc baggie around her phone has been working perfectly fine in the shower. I'd be interested to see what Otterbox's waterproof version will be like as it was, again, awesome to take photos and video underwater.

Just curious - why would you need to take a cell phone in the shower?

I'm guilty of this occasionally. If I just want to sit and soak for a while in the hot water, I'll use my phone for music. It's just easy and portable rather than leaving a stereo in the bathroom. Except I leave my phone on the back of the toilet and use a dry washcloth if I want to change the station.

On purpose?

Never on purpose just more like oops I was talking and cleaning toilet lol darn sister and her funny stories.

Now my hubby swears I drop my phone on concrete to test the otter box.

I watched a kid pour pool water out of his Lifeproof case this summer. I don't need a false sense of security due to a case so no Lifeproof cases for me as replacement phones are not in my budget.

FWIW I have the Best Buy warranty AND the Lifeproof.

Because although I take my time, making SURE it's all tight and sealed (and I have THOUGHT it was sealed until I take one last look at the seams all the way around to find that I have left a crack) and then calling DH to make sure the sound is good, I never know when I might do it wrong. I might not take that one last look. I might get distracted. I still haven't called DH to make sure of the sound after I put my phone back in the case the other day, for instance. So I might have to do it all over but I don't know that yet.

And because I don't know if I've done it perfectly, the phone is covered in another way. Heck, I might drop my phone while putting it into the Lifeproof, LOL; as any of us could do while putting it into whatever case we choose.

I think if I dropped my phone on concrete every day, after a week or so I would just decide not to do that anymore.

The first day my daughter had her Lifeproof case she dropped it in the lake while kayaking. 20 minutes later they FINALLY found the phone. Phone was fine.

That's proof enough for me. I love my lifeproof!

No they sound quality is awful! I hated mine and went back to my OB.
