Are fanny packs allowed on the rides?

I'm going to IOA and US next spring and I really want to avoid use of the electronic lockers, if possible. Although they're dorky, I was hoping to use a fanny or lumbar pack to store my cell phone, camera, money, and sun glasses. Will they let me wear the fanny pack on the rides, or will I have to store it in the lockers anyway? Also, how do you think the ride attendants will feel about hooking something (i.e. souvenier butterbeer mugs) to the fanny pack with a locking carabiner?

Fanny pack will be fine. I hooked the butterbeer mug and was allowed to ride. One attendant put up a fuss but eventually let me ride. I rode about 4 times with it like that. If they say that no butterbeer mugs are allowed(that is what they have been told), just tell them that no LOOSE butterbeer mugs are allowed, but yours is not loose. The one guy said that as long as we were comfortable riding with it, it was fine.

I don't know about fanny packs. My sling pack is pretty small, and I was told I had to get a locker. I swear I saw people with fanny packs be told the same thing on the MIB and Mummy rides.

Cross body bags are never allowed.

What about wristlets? Can we keep those with us?

Not sure why:confused3. It sure isn't going to fly off in the ride, and I can just move it to the side to fit the lap bars. It just makes me wider, but not nearly as wide as some people who ride;).

I've never had to store it at WDW for similar rides, like Test Track, Space Mountain, BTMRR, etc. I can understand the problem on upside down rides like Hulk, but there is plenty of room on most of the rides when it is a small bag. A full size back pack I understand, b/c there is nowhere to put it. I hate having to get a locker every time, but I need more than a wristlet for my meds, keys, wallet and ponchos.

I agree. If you put it under your shirt, perhaps it will pass inspection.

I walked by with my belly bag as a woman was being told she had to put her tiny wristlet in a locker and she FREAKED out! The TM said the policy is that if you have to hold it then it has to go in a locker. Maybe it was just one strict TM but I would not plan on carrying anything with you.

The under $10 store in the front of IOA has belly bags for $9.95. :thumbsup2

Well, I don't have to hold my sling pack. I just slide it around to my side. They still wouldn't let me wear it. Maybe I will try a fanny pack work on my belly(is that what a belly bag is?) next time we got to Universal. I know the lockers are free, but we like to go several times in a row, using the single rider line. I hate having to keep switching lockers.

This is complete conjecture, but is it possible that the sling bag could be considered a strangling hazzard? If the strap got stuck behind you or tangled in the harness, it could be bad news. I'm going to try the fanny pack thing and see how it goes--the worst they can say is I have to put it in a locker, which is where I would be anyway!

I would suggest trying to fit everything you want to take into a pair of cargo shorts so you wouldn't have to deal with the lockers at all. I know people like to bring everything with them when they come to the parks but try to cut back...you will enjoy yourself more if you don't have to go to the lockers at all. :thumbsup2

I heard "fanny pack" is a bit rude sounding to our UK guest. Belly bag is just another word for it. But for sure these are the only kind of bags I've seen allowed on FJ.

As someone who was raised in England until my early teen years and then came to the States I have to say that the term "Fanny pack" made me do this  the first time I heard it. Now that I know what it is, I don't have the same reaction of course but still when I hear a grandma say it in the parks it kind of makes my skincrawl. For those that don't know, in the UK the word fanny is a slang term for a girl's female parts.

Really? Then I guess the whole "Fanny Mae/Freddie Mac" financial meltdown news in the US must have be hilarious when broadcast in the UK!

That's because Disney would rather see its park full of happy guests than deal with safety issues, or "annoyances" to guests, such as putting loose articles in a locker. Almost every park you go to, the big coasters either have required lockers, or storage bins on the platform in which bags can go.

Universal, and other parks enforce this policy for safety reasons, and capacity. I'm very surprised they let loose articles on Rock n Roller Coaster. If a bag comes loose and falls onto the track, the train will eventually slam into it, causing a major problem and/or injuries. But I guess Disney can pay off those liabilities easy, which as the other parks can't afford it.

When I was there the first week of Sept I rode FJ every morning and was told the first day that my small flat cross body Vera Bradley mini hipster had to go in the lockers and was told the next day that my Vera Bradley all-in-one wristlet had to go in the lockers. I asked what if any bags were allowed on and was told that any loose bag (including cross body bags no matter how small) had to go in the lockers and only fanny packs with three prongs were allowed. I wore cargo shorts the rest of the week and refused to carry anything into the parks until the last day when I finally wore my fanny pack. The fanny pack was larger than my Vera Bradley mini hipster, but went on the ride fine.:confused3 When we were there last week, I just wore cargo shorts all week and didn't carry anything into the parks that didn't fit into my pockets. Until my trip last month I always carried a small park bag and didn't think I could do without one. I was so surprised to feel how liberating it could be to go without one. I didn't really need all that stuff I thought I did. I put my small camera in one pocket, my cellphone in another with a small lip balm, then a small divider thingy to hold my ID, room key, AP, credit card, and a $20.00 bill. My sunglasses I held on the rides.

You mean three prongs on the little belt thing you clip together?
