Are DVC resorts taking guests temperature before check in as they do at DS and as they will do at the parks?
Thanks!

No.

Also, 80% or more of people acute enough to be admitted to hospital inpatient do not have a temperature
Does anyone know what the rationale is then to take temperature of guests at DS. Seems like a lack of consistency. Are they doing it at parks?
Thanks.

So why bother doing it at DS and the parks? In fact, at least DS is outside and the parks are also. Makes more sense doing temperature checks before resort check in, more exposure to the virus, corridors, etc.

We do temperature checks at my hospital and my nursing home. It's an added measure of safety and we have caught a couple staff who felt fine who had fevers (one ended up being covid positive). It might be more for show but it's a good show that adds to the culture that this is serious and everyone should take it seriously and wear a face mask. So while the temp checks alone don't do much, it adds to the culture that coronvirus is real and guests should take it seriously and mask up. So I am glad they do it and that it helps to set the tone.

As a health professional, what is your opinion, on having resorts at check in do temperature checks? Doing temperature checks at parks and DS..I personally would like to see it done!

All I know is that temperature taking is very variable - but it doesn't bother me to have it taken. I hardly run a fever even with flu, strep and other viruses. I can feel very sick but temperature is not a good indicator for me personally. I'm sure there may be others in similar circumstances. SO, I don't think temp taking should be the only standard. Also people will just take meds if they think they have a fever.

Taking temps probably isn't the main way to play defense against this virus because it spreads asymptomatically. Masks are more important than temps if I had to pick one strategy. But doing both is an option....

It would be problematic if resorts & hotels started doing temperature checks. You get sick on vacation, where do you go? We're still hoping to go in August (hoping FL gets things under control) but part of the reason we're going to drive instead of fly is just in case someone gets sick (with anything, not just covid) we don't have a problem getting home.

Particularly for resorts like OKW and SSR, the DVC resorts aren't horrible places to have someone sick as they can isolate fairly well and let housekeeping know not to come into the room.

In what seems like another lifetime, our then-3YO DD came down with the flu while we were at WDW. Spent a lot of time resting in the room but she did come down to sit by the pool and, wrapped in a blanket, got to see fireworks one evening. Obviously we would never do that today, and in hindsight maybe we shouldn't have then, but people get sick on vacations a lot...

Most resorts don’t just have 1 entry, through the lobby. And online checkin means you don’t have to go to the lobby, anyway.

do they still have online check in? If so do they really send you a room number if you need to get a temp check?

Many have said that there is no temperature check taken at check in. I personally think that hotels should require temperature checks at check in as well as airlines right before you get on the plane. If you have a temperature, can’t get on flight not can you check into the hotel or resort. No entry to your resort room until temp is taken...heck the parks and Disney Springs require it, why not an indoor structure with hallways like a resort or hotel

Airplanes are a different matter, since everyone is sharing the same airspace (sorry) for hours on end.

At a hotel, everyone has their own private space. Distancing and sanitation measures are designed to protect staff and guests from anyone who may unknowingly be a carrier while in public spaces. There are a number of lodging laws and regulations designed to protect guests from unscrupulous hoteliers. I‘m not sure that “you’re running a fever” is a valid reason for turning away someone with a confirmed reservation.

You’re in Florida...1000 miles away from home and hotels are able to deny you entry. Where do you go?

And if Disney tried to create some sort of “Covid camp” where they send anyone with a high temperature, imagine the liability if they sent people who did not actually have Covid.

Everyone entering a Disney hotel—really ANY hotel—is assuming some degree of risk by being there. The signs are everywhere. Don’t rely on temperature checks to keep you safe.

My point is to apply consistency to Covid Policies. If there are temperature checks prior to entry at parks and Disney Springs, where you are outside versus an indoor space, the policy should also apply to an indoor setting where there is a lobby, indoor corridor, and elevators!

To what end? Extended family shows up at BoardWalk for a week in a two bedroom villa. One of the kids has a temp of 100.6. Now what?
