I thought for some reason that if you cancelled your cruise, you could receive your deposit back. I was reading through the policies though and it seems I was mistaken. Can anyone confirm what the official policy is regarding cancelling a cruise when only a deposit has been put down?

As far as i am aware you can have a full refund up until a few months before. I certainly cancelled one earlier in the year and got a refund no problems.

Full refund is available until the PIF (paid-in-full) date. For U.S.-based closed-loop cruises, this is 75 days prior to the sail date; non-U.S. departures or one-way cruises usually have an earlier PIF date.

After PIF, it depends how close to the sail date you cancel how much of your monies are refunded.

Enjoy your cruise!

You can move the concierge deposit to another cruise date before the PIF date.

Cancellations/RefundsCancellations may be made by telephone or in writing. Changes to the vacation commencement date or changes of Guest names will be considered cancellations. For cancellations, amounts paid, minus cancellation fees and other amounts owed, will be promptly refunded. No refunds will be made in the event of interruption or cancellation by the Guest after vacation commencement date. All appropriate refunds will be made directly to the Guest's credit card account or through the Guest's Travel Agent if the reservation is made through a Travel Agent. Disney Cruise Line is not responsible for the receipt of refund monies by Guests from their Travel Agents. All travel documents including airline tickets must be returned before refund processing can begin. Certain Travel Agents may withhold an agency cancellation fee. Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to restrict any changes to a reservation. All changes are subject to availability. Please note that changes made to overall party size may result in a change to the rate. For your peace of mind, we recommend the purchase of the Vacation Protection Plan. Premiums for the Vacation Protection Plan must be paid by the final payment due date, and the Vacation Protection Plan is not effective until final vacation payment is made.

Cruise Cancellation Fees:CATEGORIES WITH RESTRICTIONS: Reservations for Inside, Outside or Verandah Categories with Restrictions are NONREFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE. A 100% cruise cancellation fee applies from time of payment.

Ok, I'm a little confused. If I book a concierge cabin and then need to switch the date ( as opposed to canceling and never going on a cruise on DCL again) do I lose the deposit or does it get transferred to the new cruise? Thanks for the help!

Technically, if you "move" a cruise, you are cancelling and rebooking. So, for Concierge you would lose your deposit. But DCL tends to be a little forgiving if you rebook at the same time you cancel and usually lets people just move the deposit to the new cruise.

We cruised concierge on the Dream 3 weeks ago, and while onboard booked another concierge cabin for July 2014. We have a specific saturday we will be in Orlando and wanted to book the 4-nighter for right after, but it didn't have any cabins available that we wanted (Cat. V on the "hump"/bumpout), so instead we booked the 3-nighter later in the week. The concierges told us we could change it to the 4-nighter if a hump Cat. V opened up, and even added us to some list they had for people who want to change rooms - they said they would keep an eye out for us so we didn't have to keep checking. Seeing as concierge offered to switch our sailings for us, and they supposedly have a list of people who do this, I presume switching dates would be ok.

That said, their generosity only goes so far. Today we ended up booking a 4E (non-concierge) with a huge balcony (rm 5650) for that 4-nighter we really wanted to be on (mostly because we're not sure what to do between our saturday event and the 3-day that leaves on thurs - it's too hot in florida to do much in july! :) ), and when we asked if we could have our on-board booking benefits transferred to that cruise, we were told no, because it would be considered a downgrade. We were surprised, because I thought I had read on here before that you could change a concierge to a non-concierge, but I guess not. I called back and spoke to two different CMs and was told the same thing. So, by booking the concierge part of the trip onboard and booking the non-concierge part later, we lost out on the 10% off the non-concierge part. :( (Though hoping that becomes moot, because if a concierge room we want comes up on the 4-night, we're taking it!)

Anyway, long story short, it's probably safe to say you can move your concierge deposit from one cruise to another, as long as you're staying concierge.

No, moving a cruise just changes the date and keeps the original reservation number, so it's not a cancellation/rebooking.

You beat me to it. ;) Everyone who moved their OBBs today didn't cancel their cruises. They simply moved them to a new date. There have also been multiple posts on the boards by people who have moved a concierge reservation to a different date prior to their PIF date.
